What is worse, Marijuana or Alcohol?

One time I injected 7 marijuanas and I woke up naked and 10 miles from my house.

ITT: A lot of people that havn't done either, and are parroting what they've been taught by authority figures.

The bad thing about smoking a joint, is the tobacco. The marijuana itself ain't gunna kill you. It's only drawback that we're aware of so far, is that it's bad for developing brains (Go figure. What drug isn't?), and that it leads to lethargy.

You can even vape marijuana nowadays, something I highly recommend. You can have them in cookies ffs! (Wake 'n' bake, urrryday).

Once you do that, all the criticisms listed in this thread dwindle to... "the addictiveness of things that are really amazing".

Let's put it simply. Think of the stereotype of a:

Drunkard -- Poor decision making, impulsive, a nuisance, belligerent, aggressive.

Pothead -- Lazy, calm, sloth-like, food-cravings.

I'd much rather spend time around people that are 'addicted' to weed, than alcoholics. Even if I was completely sober.

 

Marijuana isn't addictive.

I would say alcohol is worse. A lot of the other reasons were already mentioned, but I'll just add some points that I think weren't touched upon too much.

1. Alcohol when consumed makes people more violent while marijuana makes people more mellow. Some police officers will tell you they'd rather see domestic abusers consume marijuana than alcohol because it's much easier to work with.

2. Marijuana isn't nearly as addictive as alcohol. Alcohol, though not the most addictive drug on the market, can lead to a crippling dependence on the drug (alcoholism). Marijuana on the other hand has only been shown to sometimes lead to a habit, which isn't an addiction. NOTE: Some studies will show you that there's many people who need to go to rehab because of "marijuana addiction", but that is a very misleading study because people are required by law to go to rehabilitation (even if they really don't need it).


I go to a high school and there are weed smokers everywhere. Some are actually pretty smart kids, although I do notice some skewed behavior that might be attributed to their marijuana usage. Still, I don't think it's as bad as alcohol usage.

 

Maybe you got something mixed up here, I'm not sure excessive alcohol and almost relatively instantaneous heart attacks really go hand in hand. Heart attacks are caused by a gradual clogging of the coronary arteries by plaque and solid fats and what have you (atherosclerosis). So while alcohol definitely will gradually increase this build up, we're talking like 5 decades, which is why heart attacks often happen in older people. Maybe Mark's stomach has adapted to it, and rejects it almost on contact, yes that's possible, but a heart attack, no, not yet.

Breaking news: science. This study looked at socio-economic results of marijuana use, and the conclusion is that using 4x/week or more = loser.

We don't need a study to show that. Of course 4 times a week is harmful ffs. Getting intoxicated 4 times a week is extremely dangerous. Heck, go live on celery four days of the week and we'll see how long it takes you to get to the hospital.

I'm assuming that those who are ignorant of one of the substances, and want to participate in the debate are capable of doing research.

 

Ignorance applies to research to not just first hand, marijuana is demonized as a child and many people try or care to form their own opinion on it.

 

The one time that I unblock you out of curiosity, and I see that:

- You're linking people to an article that calls people a 'loser'. (Which is a subjective conclusion, fwiw)

- The article has (as far as I can see it) zero links to the study that they're talking about.

- The results are correlation and not causation.

Less catchy, clickbait, Ctrl+C & Ctrl+V headlines. More links to the "science" that you (and I) seem to be so keen to talk about. Let's see the study. Only then can we come to an informed opinion.

Ummm, no.... that's not how it works at all.

I agree with your statement but you can have marijuana in different forms that wouldn't require you to smoke it (edibles).

People have lived to be 90+ years of age and smoked like a chimney, that's not to say it is bad but I assure you anyone that drinks more than 4 drinks a day don't live that long. Anyhow, you can simply have an edible and it spares you the lung damage.

Although this is how MI's usually are caused they can actually happen without any of those conditions, a perfectly healthy 20 year old can have a freak episode of a heart attack. I'm not saying what he said is true but all those conditions would cause a typical heart attack but there are certainly odd cases of them.

I have smoked and drank in my lifetime and I can say 100% smoking isn't as bad in terms of "impairment". Motor skills are not as impaired when compared to drinking. High people tend to be mellow while some people that are drunk may get violent. It's really up to the person but I honestly think marijuana is given an unfair name and people demonize it for no good reason. Anything in excess is bad but "weed" is definitely healthier than drinking. Alcohol is a toxin after all.
