You were not demoted for bashing the server, if I had to bet on a single reasoning, it was the trash talking you did about other staff, which has always been an instant demotion, I put that rule in place, and it is a good one, you don't trash your team, or you don't need to be on the team. I rant in the staff chats daily, usually pages long, I'm not demoted, I didn't get banned, I'm in there dropping 10 f-bombs a minute usually. So any claim about a demotion due to talking crap about the server is just that, crap, or I would have been gone about 25 minutes after I got in.

But you are right, our methods of communication are indeed lacking, one of my pet projects since I've joined the staff, I'm a firm believer in customer service, and communicating effectively is indeed good customer service, this we will work on until we get it right.

No staff used insider knowledge to set up chest-shops, I was in-game mentioning it for days, I wrote a post about it before and after. Hell, Onis posted about it months ago, the information was there, publically, there was no staff using insider knowledge to make chest-shops. There was no insider information about it, we all knew MeepShop was getting removed, and we all were able to find out MeepShop prices to price our chest-shops accordingly. However, if you have actual evidence, instead of anecdotal claims, I will be happy to look at the evidence and pursue any justice needing to be pursued.

On the topic of bugs and devs, yes, we're lacking in progress in this area, no need to lie about it or sugar coat it. But the solution isn't as simple as just adding a bunch of devs, because devs on average costs a load of money, plugins are expensive to make.

So, in order to expand this debate, what are the three steps MeepCraft must follow for instantly becoming successful overnight again?

Trust me, I know what I got demoted for, it was a culmination of everything. But considering the true nature of my demotion was for being "corrupt" I guess I don't know 100% what I was demoted for! That'd be nice to know. (The only difference between you and me was I did it for days)
But no one knew when until it was too damn late. Before new spawn was released, staff knew when it was going to happen. Staff did use inside knowledge, always have always will.
    1. Use devs to fix the problems we already have like the entirety of skyblock that does not work
    2. Use money what little money this server has to increase advertising for the server. If you're not keeping a player base that has been here for years, get a new one. Plain and simple. There's no use, in my mind, for keeping the player base that has little to no faith in the rest of the server because they will leave.
    3. Create new ways of gaining money on the server. The fact that 64 dirt gives you 64 meebles and to buy 64 dirt it costs you 640 meebles? The markup is worse than gamestop. There needs to be an economy to the damn economy server! I can actually hark back to actual economics and say that the distribution of wealth will be radically different. The "middle class" of meepcraft will cease to exist because there is no way for them to profit. Gambling is becoming the main source of income for many people on meepcraft, not actually playing minecraft.

No, nobody knew when Meepshop was going to close in staff. Nobody knew what was going on when Onis re-enabled it, that is misinformation, the staff knew Meepshop was going, just as the players did.

    1. How do we pay for the number of devs you're proposing, while paying for ads, while paying for server uptime? Devs are not cheap, nor are plugins being made.

    2. Again, how do we pay for it all? How much does a month of ads cost, in your opinion?

    3. This is something that we are currently working on, not like working on and it might be the next month, but we're working on it now, today, yesterday, tomorrow. Also keeping in mind, that traditionally, making money on meep meant selling things, and that is unrealistic to all economies, not everyone always sells. Gambling is not a main source, but like real life, it's often a quick and easy source. Are we arguing for more ways to easily make money with no time spent?

It may cause monopolies but if you lower the price just enough the person who owns that monopoly will eventually give in, and have to buy your items.

and the reason nothing gets done is because of the techs. Btilm rarely is on, and does not do anything. If we had more dedicated techs something would actually get done.

Ok. Let me start by talking about the broken economy and problems with /jobs.

I don't think the resets were the major problem, and even if the server was to be reset every 3 months, I still bet people will continue to play. That being said, there needs to be a way to bring meebles into the game if a reset is to happen.

I don't know if any of you here have played Runescape, but i'll use it as my example anyway. For the longest time, people would bot overnight or whilst they were at school or work just to make a few million coins. There were even large companies who had hundreds of accounts botting at one time, constantly, just to sell the coins they made for real life money. While it did ruin the economy by bringing billions of coins & items into the economy, it was at least keeping the economy flowing and establishing prices of items.

Now back to Meepcraft. Back when we had /jobs and people could make hundreds of thousands of Meebles a day and the economy was filled with Meebles and items and whilst theoretically having a terrible economy, it was booming with thousands of players trading each other daily, whether it be via the Meepshop or drop trading.

If /jobs were to come back, I don't think they should come back exactly as they were before. Nerfing a few things which can be easily be abused would help out a lot. Also, I would love to see some money sinks, in which players can opt to participate in. Some ideas for this may be as simple as:
    • paying a large sum of Meebles (1-2.5M?) to have a plot (50x50?) in a secret town owned by fuzzlr, hidden to all players who do not own a plot there.
    • Adding a limit to the amount of /jobs (or money gained from /jobs) per day, as monkeyhead said:
Or something more complicated such as:
    • Others could be a Lottery in which the tickets cost 500k Meebles each and once 200 tickets are purchased (removing 100 million Meebles from the economy), fuzzlr gives away 25 Million Meebles (thus completely removing 75 million Meebles from the economy) or a rank upgrade valued at $10/$20/$40. Now, yes this would mean fuzzlr would be giving out ranks for no real monetary gain, but it would keep the economy flowing and players would constantly be spending time to acquire money to enter the lottery. This also allows players who can not afford to purchase ranks because of their IRL situation (whatever it may be) to obtain a rank. It also encourages people who already have ranks (even Ultimates) to keep the economy flowing (as the 25M jackpot, or upgrading a friends rank is a valuable reward) and imo would be healthy for the game and should attract (and keep) new players. (Also, this can all be done by an admin with the power to change ranks or give money to a player; it only requires fuzzlr's approval at the beginning).
Now, I understand these are not ideas which can instantly be introduced into the game, may have drastic problems/flaws but are solutions to these Economic problems in Meepcraft.

Edit: I'd also love to hear everyones opinions and problems with ideas such as these above. Thanks!

Wish you played more still, miss ya captaine!
    Lottery : +1
    /jobs with an earnings cap : +1
Realizing the statement "economy will break zOmg!!!" is bs : +1

My own idea for money sinks; allow contracted world edits costing various millions, using forum only arrangements and approvals.(gives the non ftp/console access admins something to do)
Seriously tho, always thanks for contributing Captaineali

Aight, now it's time for Epic's Epic opinion, ready?

Meepcraft pre-meepcouncil was amazing, it truly was. Then the meepcouncil came, Ifart was pretty much the only admin and the server started to decline. Then MN came and all hope was pretty much lost. My point is that we should go back to those pre-council days, back when we had a way to INTRODUCE money into the economy (jobs) and somewhere to take it AWAY (lottery). Now pretty much, except for donating for meebles which I'm pretty sure nobody does, (fun fact: I'm pretty sure it's illegal from the EULA, but that's another thread) there really isn't a way to introduce meebles which in turn, picture this (based off meep today) meebles are all spread out among players right? Some how someone does something and everyone is going towards their business and soon that person is rich and everyone else isn't? BTW while writing this I remebered that there IS money introduced through the economy, the $2,500 that each new citizen gets. Great? No. Chances are that citizen isn't playing right now due to the complexity of the server.

Except rather than multiple people having monopolies on single items, chest shops have created a few players who now have an oligopoly on everything. #logic #goodeconomics.

Here's a novel idea, if Meep is so damn keen on making the economy 'fair' and 'accurate' then hire a proper economic advisor, don't rely on the faulty knowledge of teenagers and people who don't understand the concepts properly. And I'm not talking about someone from on the server, call up The Fed.

LOL, don't even try that. You got banned on purpose. :p You said MrsMeganCraft.COM, or something similar that had a "." in it (which you knew full well would trigger the advertising filter, which you also knew full well that staff could not see through at the time). Also, immediately before that, you apparently asked about an easy way to get banned. And if I remember correctly, you didn't appeal until now. I understand why you weren't happy with the server and its staff, and why some people aren't happy now, but please don't rewrite history to fit your narrative.

Moving on... I don't know why voting hasn't been fixed by now. :( It's not because it hasn't been brought up (repeatedly). The only thing I can guess is that it's not a big priority. fuzzlr and Onis both said over the summer that they weren't interested in advertising until the server is fixed and improved, and attracting players through voting/list websites still doesn't seem to be of great importance to them now. New Spawn took a lot longer than it was supposed to, and the release of 1.8 screwed a lot of things up (and caused a host of bugs right after a host of other bugs had been fixed).

You're right that there should be ways for people to make modest amounts of money easily (which will make them more enthusiastic about participating in the economy in a bigger way). I'm thinking a modified version of /jobs could be possible in the future - something that fixes the problems that it had in the past. Onis doesn't want it, but other higher-ups may be open to it and could possibly change that. I know there are other things related to the economy in the works, though, which could be why this still isn't being considered. Staff members have shared the community's concerns (and their own) that it is hard right now for new players to make money. The addition of some sell signs in the admin shop was a response to that, but I'm hoping that more will be done soon. By the time I got Supermod, it was a lot harder to answer when a new player asked, "How do I make Meebles?"

Hmm. If it were possible to get demoted for complaining about nothing getting done, I would never have gotten the chance to resign and Deinen would've been out the door a while ago. ;)

I knew that these exist. :) Not because I was given any special info, but I've heard references to testing things on other servers a few times. But we never knew much about what was going on there - or sometimes what was going on in MeepCraft itself - and I'm not sure why that information would be hidden from staff. It helps staff to do their jobs better, and keeps up morale among staff and the other players, when they're kept "in the loop" and know what's going on. Even if it's best not to share everything with players (in order to avoid giving false expectations, encouraging an exploit, etc.), a better informed staff can better respond to player concerns. Some of my attempts to open up these information channels were met with resistance... maybe that has something to do with the fact that staff keep leaking things.

You have a point here, generally. I think staff should give more information to players when possible, and if it's not possible, shouldn't personally benefit from the knowledge that they have as staff. Admins (and those privy to admin information) tend to know the most about what's going to happen and when, and staff members in general are the ones with the most successful shops right now (but not the only ones having success).

But Onis announced this change in the economy several months ago, and he had publicly confirmed it repeatedly since then. Of course, that doesn't give players an indication of when it will happen. But we kept saying MeepShop would likely be removed with the new spawn (including denying suggestions and bug reports with the reasoning that MeepShop was going to be removed soon), and finally were able to give indications that new spawn was right around the corner (including photos). Admins made a few premature announcements of the new spawn's arrival, but if anything, that gave players more time to prepare for what they knew was coming. In the weeks leading up to it, I remember people talking in TeamSpeak and in shout about what they should invest in and what they should sell before MeepCraft becomes a chestshop economy. People began reserving pwarp names and building malls in anticipation. It wasn't really a secret, it just didn't happen on a specific date.

I've often wondered why that announcement feature/plugin isn't used more often. You're right that it should be, and it could have been for the removal of MeepShop. It's annoying in the moment, but as long as it's temporary it's a great feature to notify players of changes that will affect them.

fuzzlr is almost never around, to be sure. I wish he would show more interest in the server that he owns and the staff that help keep it going. But what you said isn't really true. I have only been staff this year and I have seen him communicate with staff before.

There is no "gag order." But until anyone other than fuzzlr, Onis, or Cooleysworld can add Factions (for example), and when all three of those people PLUS the majority of staff and many player have repeatedly said it's not a good idea and shouldn't happen, it's highly misleading the community to say it's "Accepted." It's not accepted and it never was (edit: in "new Meep," I mean), and most likely never will be (though I don't know that last one for sure). If a discussion is needed to revisit the idea, then that should happen - whether it's among all staff, or just a couple interested people trying to persuade an admin. But I prefer that staff be open and up-front with players, when possible, about what is likely to happen and what is not. Doing otherwise erodes the community's already-wavering trust. (You could also reword those last two sentences with "admins," "other staff," and "staff team"... instead of "staff," "players," and "community." Like I said above, there is definitely an issue at times with communication between the levels of staff, though I think it has improved from where it was when I first joined the team.)

I do think there is a good point in here, too, though. :) Staff should welcome any and all suggestions that are put forward reasonably, respectfully, and for the good of the server (not just for a personal preference or out of boredom). That should include being willing to revisit (once in a while, not every time) topics like /jobs and others that have been auto-denied in the past. I specifically asked Mods+ not to auto-deny a suggestion about bringing back V-shop, so that we could let players discuss the pros and cons and see where the conversation went. When people kept talking about it in /shout, I encouraged players to post their complaints in that thread, where they are more likely to be read and responded to and possibly taken seriously. Instead, the thread devolved into posts saying #bringbackvshop and spawned a useless duplicate thread, before it died off after a while and was finally denied. :( In order to make real change, staff (of all levels) and non-staff players will have to meet each other halfway.

Lollll I recall seeing "MrsMeganCraft" in the chat when it was said and it was an obvious joke. I really don't care to be honest about my ban per say and I am unbanned etc... I have just been here for quite some time and a decline is apparent and there is no hiding such fact. When you go from a 600-1000 player count down to 35 during slow hours there has been an APPARENT decline. I care about the server and its well being (not my ban status) and some decisions made are absolutely irrational and put in place to serve the needs of a child's fantasy where he is all powerful, when in reality, he is some scrawny snot sitting behind a computer ruining the fun for others. Yup, directly addressing "he who shall not be named" but regardless, I would like to see the server doing "well" and my definition of well is just a fraction of the success it had in the past.
