Thanks for all the info guys! I guess I’m more or less nervous about getting to the airport and then not finding my way around since I’ll be alone. My flight is at 6:50am so hopefully if I give myself ample time I should be okay. :)

I’d suggest informing yourself about the baggage rules for whatever airline you are taking.

Often you may be able to bring a carry on suitcase/bag, and idk why, but I’m comforted to have stuff to do. Make sure you get to the airport preferably an hour or two before your flight, so you have time to go through all the metal detectors and bag checks. It’d be smart to keep some identification on you, although I don’t know much why you’d need it. But it’s nice to have something like that ready if something odd happens.

If you have Netflix or YouTube Red, Id suggest downloading some shows/movies and bringing some earbuds so you can watch something if you can’t sleep. Gum is good for the nerves if you are worried about your ears popping, or are just uneasy on an airplane.

If you have a question, don’t be afraid to ask a worker or someone at the airport that could be able to help you.

You don’t have too much to worry about, no stressing :)

most time your divers license will act as your ID, and last time

ID is necessary to go through security.

Depends on your age. When I traveled at 17 I still needed my ID

Just remember to bring a bomb. This will come in handy if your plane crash lands and you need to blast open the side and escape! A gun can also be handy if any terrorists show up.

Nothing funny about it, extremists are a very real threat!

(On a side note, if you're in a big city don't be dumb; ignore homeless people, anyone with a clipboard, or salesmen)

Yes ignore salesmen on the street because many of them are scammers in big cities (atleast in NYC).

    Some tips:

download the offline maps on google maps, take risks, dont walk in alleyways alone, always watch ur drink, don't let anyone buy you a drink, make sure you have money to take a taxi if needed or bus or uber, be confident, talk to people, don't forget a minute of it; take mental pictures and say "wow, im here and so alive", do the touristy stuff but also walk into the places no one goes; weird shops or restaurants, take real pictures, don't be afraid of messing up

I was in a similar position. I went to France with someone my age around a year ago, she had to leave early to meet her family in GB, so I was left to board a plane by myself. I was able to make it out alive in one piece despite being quite possibly the most absent minded person alive, so I'm sure you'll do fine.

Some great things to remember for airports is that you can stop and ask the many airport workers for directions at any time. Airports can be large and scary, but these guys are typically around everywhere and can help you if you need it. If you're stressed about the plane itself, remember that the chances of you dying in a car crash is tens of thousands of times more common then dying in a plane crash

Oh and remember to bring gum for the flight, great for popping your ears.

I flew by myself for the first time ever in January!! I flew from Milwaukee WI to Nashville TN. I had a layover flight in Chicago on the way there, and in Atlanta Georgia on my way home. Milwaukee is two hours from where I live so my sister drove me there and walked me in as far as she could without having to go through security herself, and I had a friend waiting for me in Nashville when I landed so I wasn't worried about any of that. To be completely honest, I was so excited to finally fly for my first time but I cried once I got on the plane because the nerves finally got to me lol. Actually, I cried as soon as my sister left me at security. It was scary at first but by the time I was taking my first of two flights home, I was loving it! (Aside from the ice storms that had my flights canceled 3 times and my gates switched like 4 times).

If you don't have any layovers it's not that big of a deal but if you do, I highly recommend looking up the airport map and familiarizing yourself with where the gates and everything are. Download the Southwest Airlines app and you can I found it super stressful to be figuring that all out on my own. I was so horrified I was going to miss my flights or go to the wrong gate or be on the wrong side. (Which did happen! Luckily some girl was taking the same flights as me - from Milwaukee to Nashville. We were fortunate enough to get lost together and we helped each other when it came to the point where I had to remove my heels and run with her to our gate - 10 minutes before the flight lol)

Hmm, well in reality you dont need to worry, I like to arrive at least 3 hours before the flight to get thru security and all that stuff, but if you are lost just ask people around you. For the plane dont worry only 1 in 400000 planes crash or something like that so its very unlikely you will. Bring snacks and things to do like your computer on the plane and get the inflight wifi (the cost of it is under priced if you as me) for chicago you are defenently going to need to pack pepper spray or a tazer in the back you are checking in at the counter, (NOT YOUR CARRY ON BAG YOU WILL GET ARRESTED IF YOU DO!) Chicago is very nice but the tazer is just for safety as there is alot of gang violance there! you dont need to worry about the plane ride at all, just follow the river, get to the desk on time to get your bording pass, get thru security, and then if you have time to spare (a hour usualy is what i have) take a walk around the airport and possibly shop a little bit but you should go to your gate first just to make sure its there, use the sinage on the roof and just be carfull! ~ Mow

    What...

    Kid, no.

Big cities are pretty easy to stay safe in if you aren't stupid. Use your head. Don't talk to people, don't take anything from anyone, and lock your car. Don't be out past 9 or 10. Basic stuff. Taking a tazer is ridiculous. If you MUST carry a weapon to fulfil your crippling anxiety or whatever, carry a knife, they're smaller and more effective. I reccomend a solid switchblade or butterfly, anything with a locking blade.

TlDr don't be dumb and you'll be fine. Using these tips in San Diego rn ;)

Yeah, gotta stay away from it. You shouldn't need be in the bad parts of Chicago if you're rich enough to travel, so don't go there. Easy!
