People can be toxic without using swear words, and people can be having a normal conversation with swear words. In my opinion many people have recently been too over sensitive to content, especially to local chat.

Yes, we have a big range of players from 10 to 50, but probably the only way to keep it together is not tilting towards one way or the other.

Most content related reports are normally in local chat; players can simply leave when they are uncomfortable. Unless a person has specifically insulted you or someone you know directly, there is no need to take action.

This looks like a debate thread tbh (without blue marlin)

    A. Very few players that join actually stay now. Maybe 1 in every 100. This is why me must focus on our player base. Hey we're young hen they joined years ago, but now we wish for more restrictions to be removed.

    B. Jumping to anger quickly will come from a personality, not swearing. You can equally tee someone off without swearing. Great example here is Mia.

    2. To a non-Christan damn does not mean being itemrapnally damned. Now that is what the word means, but it isn't how they think of it. Also note the population of the country that actually practices hardcore Christianity (Church every Sunday, 10% of your income, no adultery before marriage, etc) is very small. Damn offends so very few.

    3. I have never seen anyone use damn in the way you describe it here. It's always,"Damn, I missed that vote party" or a similar method of use. This is not damning anyone to eternal hell. What you are think of is "You are damned!" Now I'm sorry this offends you, but really, grow up. In the real world you will not be protected from such minor words. Most places do not consider this swearing.

    4. It is rare for people to profusely swear, the filter stops most. Sometimes a sour puss gets on, but that that. They get dealt with. Like I said before, damn is barely a swear.
    5. Those ban reports were for more serious words like f### and sh## which I agree are too far for this server. Never seen anyone been reported for "damn". Here's a good motto. If staff say it there's almost no chance it's going away. And yes, staff have a pond will continue to say damn.

    6. You'd be suppressed the amount of M-rated content we have on meep. Discord has always been anything goes as long as you don't offend someone, and I'd say based off my experiences (which have been great) that discord is fairly mature. This matureness can be found in game too. Sometimes player hold private events, (in locations where passerbys cannot hear) that pass the boundaries. I've attended, hosted, and watched several. People at these groupings have fun times, and I bet if you asked them about their favourite time on the server, it probably wasn't Halo, CTF, or Boomo, but chatting with other players in a barely regulated environment. These groupings are fine, and before you complain, there have been many cases of staff joining in on them.

    7. I don't think you understand how most decisions are made. Yes often the minority is considered, but it's majority rules. Your minority makes up about <5% of the active population. Now if we allowed more swearing, maybe we'd loose 3% but the other players want to stay here more because they like the new environment.

I'll explain how I feel now. I think of this as a final say of mine here: d- has been a swear word for a long time, but is now barely, if ever, seen as so. Most people don't think of it as such, but that's for their own reasons. Any way it's used, I'll still think of it as swearing, but staff need only worry about it if someone is repeatedly asked to stop and continues in use of the word on purpose (harassment).

I do this because I want to make sure we compromise. A balance between majority and minority must be found, or everything looks like US congress.

I understand why people want restrictions loosened at times, but it is all in the balance of groups. Private events and groups using messaging can go basically unfiltered why any who enjoys the filters need not suffer.

Thanks for the many inputs, and especially for the help keeping this thread nice by staff. I'm sorry this looked more like a debate thread. It is up to staff to decide to either accept or decline this. Accepting means accepting d- as swearing, but only if used excessively. Denying means changing nothing and ignoring d-.

This suggestion has been denied for the following reasons:
    • Moderation staff are more than capable of making the appropriate decisions in regard to what degree the Meep rules should be enforced
    • Players should have enough common sense to not be toxic in general
The word ban list is literally a giant list of words that are banned--there are no heuristics involved. As such, there will always be loopholes in the chat system, no matter how many words are added... so unless we're going to completely redo the system to incorporate some sort of AI to comprehend the meaning of entire sentences, we believe that our moderation staff is more than enough to watch the chat and forums for toxic players.
