Do you know what I do in my spare time? I look over staff applications. I have been nitpicking my own for several months. I use the staff applications to help me with that. If I ever get a chance at this rate to apply for helper, I would. The staff applications help me with that by giving me an example, and it gives others an example as well.

Also, I review the staff applications for myself. Is the app too short? Does it have enough detail? Is the person applying talking too much about themselves or saying "helping the server" a bit too often?

If you cant handle the heat, get out of the kitchen. Don't apply unless you are good with criticism.
    ------------

Yeah, even I can tell that this wouldn't work.

    ^ That would.

People should be serious on applications, but leaving the decision of new staff 100% up to the current staff will definitely not help.

It's not so much negativity, I disagree because in my experience I know it's better to see how they react during the application process to trolls, rather than while they are staff, and do much more damage. There will be trolls, always, it's the internet.

MeepCraft is not a babysitting service here to look after the feelings of it's volunteers; it's a business that requires people to sometimes deal with upset, or ignorant people, and do it with a smile. If you are not able to do that job, you are not qualified to be staff on this server.

Our application is process is fine as it is, as that is the same application process that has given us staff such as Reggles, Sjoe, Klutch, Phoenix, Sirrr_Pig, Nasapc, and the list goes on.

What would your idea be if that player who posted:

""Haaah...,You're very immature and extremely defensive. You are not fit to be staff, you have never been fit for staff"

Did so ingame? If you begin punishing for things like that, then that slope is slippery indeed. I have seen the ban lists, the thousands of minor bans that ejecting potentially paying customers out of this business.

Additionally, the application process is not part of the tribulations this staff is seeing as of late, that is coming from another issue, far distant from applying.

+1 You should not have inexperienced players seeing if you should be staff. It should only be view able by staff.

This I see as constructive criticism. Thank you.

The only criticism you have made to making the posts private is that you can gauge the reaction. A fair and valid point however the attitude and ability could also be accessed at interview and so avoid the negativity, particularly for the people who are not capable of taking it and so not suitable for staff.

My response to the 1 question you put is firstly I didn't say punish. In game if it was continuous the player should be warned, which is what staff do. On the forum I would make the post private and ask the member to be constructive with their criticism whilst telling them their comments have been noted. The current process sets a tone that tends to get followed rather than it being an individuals opinion. Making it all private would resolve this. I believe this would be an improvement to the current process for the stated reasons.

I think people's comments on applications are not judging, but giving people advice on, not as helping for the next time they apply, but to be a better person in the community. If it isn't public, then they can't improve from what the community wants.

Alrighty so I must say I am very anti this idea Jonandtom has and heres a few reasons. When I applied for staff man, a year or so, I had a ton of criticism which really helped me become a better staff candidate. (http://meepcraft.com/threads/jmelara-helper-app.30315/#post-312105 ) Seeing what people in the community had to say was really beneficial for me back then. I really wasn't ready for staff back then just wanted to see my name as Helper.

Here's my problem first off the bat, I would say 50% of people who apply for helper just want to have it for the power it will give them. The reputation it will give them IG and forums. Next problem with it is that peoples opinions though at points harsh really can help someone if they actually take it to heart; in addition staff can see who can take criticism without fighting back and taking it the wrong way. If John you see someone with a hell of a lot of -1 it is probably a good indication that they have a bad community presents so they will not be a good helper if half of the player bass despises them.

Having people's insight it a amazing tool for staff. Like look at Chase's app swag help tell us how he wasn't capable for staff and was not a good decision. In real life John, the race for a postion of power is public as a few couple of people can be bais. Like say I am so close with Klutch and him and I are and I quote,"Cut from the same cloth." That would make a totaly unfair staff app and I would be accepted even if I would be a horrible helper. It's just not a good idea, but in real life we have the Electoral Collage, or in our terms a staff interview. Its all about checks and balances that makes a happy server.

Next say I apply to staff and I am a total donkey to everyone and completely horrible. But I get accepted because staff love me, then when I get ig and shout something as a helper. I started a whole damn war, in shout exploded, in msg, on forums. The more the community knows in this case the better it is.

    Absolutely not.

Staff applications are like iron ore going through the fire and being refined at the end.

People are allowed to express and share there negative/positive opinions about the applicant resulting in a overall better method.

So deinen you expect all and I mean all the internet to be complete trolls and you expect everyone to see it the way you see it even though they aren't staff matteral they do not need to be embarrised by comments that should and could have been avoided in the first place. Just because you see it as "if they are not tough enough they shouldn't be" kinda way doesnt mean they should be balsted with hateful comments

I think that staff apps should not be public but sllow people to still comment on them but not allow the comments to be shown unless your the applicant or staff.

    I disagree with this.
Criticism is supposed to help you improve next time, not put you down.
Thats the purpose of voting on staff apps.
You list off your pros and cons and/or description of saying yes or no, and you conclude it with your +1 or -1.

This is a good post and some fair points are brought up.

The interview process or a private mail can detail the "issues" a member may have that requires work in order for them to become staff. This can be done in a constructive way just like the criticisms in jmelara's post have been done. The world is full of power seekers and generally they don't go public until they know they have the right support. Some use that power in a good way and some in a bad way. My suggestion doesn't remove the ability to see -1's or the communities feelings, the posts are just private.

That's not what he said, learn grammar. He said it is hard to pull off looking smart with big words when you start by using firstly.

Stop making posts with just '-1' it's annoying and kinda spammy.

The hole point of applying for staff is that so the public accept that someone could be useful for staff. If there was a bad player who just turns into staff without half of us knowing, that could cause a load'a chaos.

Its not a question of grammar, its a question of reading given you don't appear to get the joke.
