Good point, but I think there are a couple of differences.

    1) Generally, in most cases, that decision comes from a family member or someone with legal authority over the patient.

    2) If a machine is required to keep them alive in all intent and purpose, and without that machine, all vital organs will shut down, is that person really alive? People with pacemakers/defibs can still live a full life using these machines, but a person on life support still isn't living any life other than just being alive.

I'm from Michigan where we had Dr. Kavorkian (sp), and I support the notion of assisted suicide, but I would prefer it be from a completely different type of doctor, not the types who are charged with keeping people healthy and alive. I wouldn't want to be seen by a doctor who assists in suicide because any participation in a death is a traumatic experience for a person, and I wouldn't trust judgement with that kind of burden on it.

So recently, near my school, a lady was threatening to jump off a building. This got me thinking about why she might want to do that. Why can't she die painlessly? Why can't she make it faster. I don't know how she could bring herself to actually jump off a building. Personally, I think all drugs should be legal. If you want to mess yourself up with drugs, that's you're problem and no law should keep you from doing that. That's your business. Sure I understand the laws, but quite honestly, no law should tell what you can and can't put into your own body. There should be other ways to commit suicide other than jumping off a building.

I want to hear your guy's opinions.

Honestly, physicians are the wrong people to carry out the act. Otherwise, I think people should be allowed to do what they want. Hopefully, there is a grace period or something put in place so that someone can't go into the office and get themselves killed that day.

This is a debate is only between the doctor and the patient.
The question you must first ask yourselves is what make a good life, and what makes a good death.
Trying to find a contrast in those two questions is possibly the most difficult thing on earth.
Now, apart from Canada, assisted death is illegal, and is otherwise suicide. But it's a bit ironic, considering that to give concent, your mind must be intact, which means it isn't legal for people with brain disorders or diseases, whom the patients suffering from these diseases are the ones who probably need it the most out of all the patients.
I believe people with a mental capacity strong enough, but a failing health, should be allowed to make these choices. They're the ones suffering, as well as the families.
In the end, it's a question of dignity and suffering, dignity in the sense that the doctors shouldn't let someone become a vegetable, floating in his feces, unable to do anything without help and be treated like a "thing", because that's what happens.
In Switzerland, something called the Exit program has been put in place. It has nothing to do with the hospitals, but rather the community. People go and apply for membership. Once a membership is acquired, they have the permit to prepare lethal cocktails. However, the one administrating the cocktail cannot have any direct or inderect benefit, and since it's a suicide, an investigation file is always oppened.

"While some medical schools ask their graduates to abide by the Hippocratic Oath, others use a different pledge — or none at all. And in fact, although “first, dono harm” is attributed to the ancient Greek physician Hippocrates, it isn't a part of the Hippocratic Oath at all."

Assisted suicide (the debate subject) and life support are two extremely different things.
Assisted suicide is basically when you have a foreseeable and inevitable death, and life support, is for example after a car accident, but medically speaking, the patient is dead when on life support, which is why the family can give a decision. But life support and assisted suicide have nothing to do with each other.
    Just putting that out there.

As explained above, do not mix up the two different things which are assisted suicide and life support.

    Oh boy, here we
    Here we go.
    *deep inhale*

Jeez, have you've never heard of peer pressure? Imagine someone took drugs against their own will because of a gang kidnapping? Do you realize drugs are highly addictive? Think about how much MONEY these games will make! And more money = more power! More power could overthrow GOVERNMENTS! ENTIRE! GOVERNMENTS!

So cone to think of it, maybe all drugs shouldn't be legal.

This is actually a real issue for some people. I've heard some were forced into being injected with heroin just so they can become dependent and ultimately buyers.

Also, let's not forget that the opioid crisis is real and the big pharma industry is at least partly responsible. Quite frankly, I don't understand why we don't just use marijuana for pain relief. But that's another topic.

And yes, legalize death with dignity. If there's no chance of recovery, then a person shouldn't be forced to live their final days in excruciating pain.

A gang kidnapping is very, very different from peer pressure, its laughable that you would compare the two. Peer pressure doesn't rob you of your own agency or your own responsibility, if you take drugs because you think its "cool" and it ruins your life then you are solely responsible.

Do you realize sugar is more addictive than cocaine?

Are you trolling or do you actually think legalizing weed would lead to the collapse of our government?

Since no individual has the right to make decisions about what I put into my body, no government has the right.

    @MeepLord27

I apoligize for not really being clear that I wasn't comparing the two. I just don't know what these "gang kidnapping drug injections" are officially called.

That's actually very interesting. Forget overthrowing our government with heroin, we'll overthrow them with candy.

Imagine being in such a mass amount of pain that you just want to die. Now imagine that your fellow citizens voted to make that illegal.

If the person is mentally able to make that decision, then yes, they should be allowed to die.
