But honestly, you have nothing to be proud of. You didn't do anything worth being proud of. Those who fought for their rights do, sure, but when was the last time you took a bullet for what you believe? Gay pride month seems like a cheap way to pat yourself on the back for others accomplishments.

I thought this would be self-explanatory. The acronym was made to include sexual minorities. There really wasn't any need to include straight people because... well... straight people are not a sexual minority.

Well, the letters are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, Pansexual. Though, I would just do "LGBT+" because it includes anyone else, so the letters don't have to be all listed.

Like I said before, it's more pride in just being open about oneself. Because there is a stigma in today's society. Sure it's not as big of a stigma anymore, but it is still there.

Ah. I thought you meant something else.
You're escalating this debate I was having with... Shains, I think (too lazy to go look) into something I'm saying about all gays.

I haven't claimed anything about what all gays want, just what (probably Shains) seemed to want.

But then he disappeared, because he seemed for some inexplicable reason to think that Fang was comparing him to a Pedophile.

That doesn't seem like something people would want to celebrate, and there is in fact already a month for that.
Exactly, it doesn't mean that much.
The problem is that he (shains) appears to think that his group is marginalized (I'll address that stigma you mentioned) more than other groups and deserves special treatment.
Actually, most of them didn't really do all that much. Just like most people who have a cause.

    O yea

    As to the stigma:

I'd say (this is mostly from personal experience, so it probably doesn't apply everywhere, but I've seen enough of it in a lot of places (especially the internet) to believe that it holds for most places) that the real stigma in society is against people who have a problem with gays, or really, any "marginalized" group. I mean, to some crazies, if I say I don't like someone, and they're black, it's automatically because they're black and I'm obviously a racist. The same seems to apply to gays. If I say that I feel uncomfortable seeing gay displays of public affection, not saying they shouldn't be allowed to, mind you, just that it makes me uncomfortable, I am automatically a homophobe and a bigot, and called all these other horrible things, just for having an opinion, without even trying to force it on someone else.

I know. I kind of wish they merged that month into June, tbh. I don't know anyone that recognizes October as being LGBT history month.

This is a touchy subject for some people. I've seen people freak out, lose their train of thought, and just start swearing because they are so worked up they can't respond. There was one girl who had a bisexual boyfriend who killed himself because of bullying, and she just completely lashed out at a guy who was talking badly about gay people. All I'm saying is, this topic affects everyone differently.

And this is also true. Unless you consider making some kind of essay/speech in school or having a type war on the internet as "activism".

I don't hold this against you. I don't like seeing gay PDA because I dislike all PDA. Not saying I hate people who show it, but it just plain makes me uncomfortable. I'm probably not the kind of person who tries to force his opinion on others. I just happen to have strong opinions on certain issues, is all. As for those who force their opinion, they are probably the real bigots. Regardless on which side they're on.

I wanted to wait until this rumor could be confirmed before I started commenting on it, but I feel like enough evidence has been presented for it to be confirmed. Funny story: The same day of the shooting, my sister-in-law went on a rant about how the guy was probably a closet gay guy who took his anger out on innocent people. I thought she was probably wrong, but now I'm stunned to find out she was actually right.

Usually, queer and questioning are the same thing, unless used an insult.
So if you were questioning your gender, it'd be genderqueer, and you'd say you were queer if you didn't know your sexuality either.
Correct me if I'm wrong though, I seem to remember that being the case.

Queer is more about not conforming to a gender/sexuality and questioning is just that you're not sure. At least that's how I learned it.

That's not possible, you cannot question your gender. Your gender is determined by your biological build.

Ah, okay, thanks for clearing that up for me. I was told that queer was questioning in a sense.
Sorry, I think I meant gender identity more than gender.
I wasn't sure how to phrase it.

No please. Your biology determines if you are a man or woman. It's not a debatable opinion, it's science. If you are a man and want to be a woman, fine, undergo medical procedures. But until then, your a man, not a woman, not a neutral, but male.

Sweetheart, you can't see science for what you want, what it is simply is what it is.

I don't know if you know this, but African Americas were much more relevant and had to face way more struggles than gay people.

What gay people went through and what African Americans went through aren't even close to being on the same level.

True, but in many places, even up to the 1950's, you would be killed for being gay

Well I mean, considering that 100+ LGBT people were recently involved in the largest mass shooting in US history I think its safe to say that one is needed so people don't feel like everyone hates them. The point of a pride month isn't to put other people down, its to make the people who are LGBT or Hispanic or Asian or black or native American feel good about who they are and know that they are appreciated. A straight pride month doesn't need to exist because no one feels bad about being straight.
