Closed door? Obama literally had public town halls and singularly addressed groups of republican legislators. Additionally, closed door sessions are common in bills. What isn't common is drafting an entire bill in secret, not letting your own entire party read it, then vote on a bill literally crafted hours before the vote.

You know better, don't try to mix two different scenarios

FACT CHECK: Was the Passage of Obamacare Just as Secretive as GOP Efforts to Repeal It?

Then the trans people can go without there drugs and stuff, but theres nothing about the mental state of feeling trans that should discount you from serving in our military.

Obama at a town hall in 2008:
"I’m going to have all the negotiations around a big table. We’ll have the negotiations televised on C-SPAN, so that people can see who is making arguments on behalf of their constituents and who are making arguments on behalf of the drug companies or the insurance companies. And so, that approach, I think, is what is going to allow people to stay involved in this process.”

Afterwards, a couple White House guys and senators just met in Harry Reid's office to discuss plans, without anyone else.

House and Senate Democrats intend to bypass traditional procedures when they negotiate a final compromise on health care legislation, officials said Monday, a move that will exclude Republican lawmakers and reduce their ability to delay or force politically troubling votes in both houses.

    Source
Agreed, Trump could have definitely worded it better--IMO the general idea is sound, but he didn't really need to exclude ALL trans people, just the trans people who are currently in transition.

I'm really not a fan of Trump announcing his policy changes on Twitter, because it's limited to 140 characters and doesn't really allow for discussion and dialogue. But I suppose discussion and dialogue is precisely what he wants to avoid, so whatever.

But I'll agree that the Republicans who blasted Obama for utilizing closed-door negotiations and now are doing the same thing are hypocritical too.

    @metr0n0me

I totally agree that when the democrats were pushing on ObamaCare they are guilty of bypassing legislative procedural norms to get it done. However the process of Obamacare was very public for about 7 months with Obama doing several televised town halls with the public and, again, taking time to address solely the republicans in a publicly televised (C-span) town hall at the House Republican Committee in Baltimore.

The process of the ACA and AHCA are so wildly different you are doing a dis-service by trying to compare them as the same thing. The level of secrecy attempted by the GOP was horrific. From the secrecy regarding the small group of Senators who wrote their version to trying to get votes placed before CBO scored plans (both Senate and House) and the outright lies they told in order to attempt this.

One was legitimate an unfortunately misguided attempt at solid policy the other was a conceited effort to undo what Obama did and to give tax cuts to the wealthy and corporations.

(To note: The original version of the ACA included a public option and allowing medicaid to negiotiate pricing both of which were dropped purely do to Republican being involved in the bill)

Ya know the solution to health care is collective bargaining, not the government.

Wow, I've been trying to stay away from forums because some things that are being said are so stupid and annoying and what not. But here I am, SO! Where to start?

Health Care - I think the government should take Ann Coulters idea on healthcare, leave Obamacare for the ones who want it and then open it up to a free market. (I believe she means free market by state). And no I don't think tax payers should pay for sex reassignment surgery or any hormone therapy treatments.

Trans people in the military - I hated this the day they were allowed to enter and I recently lost a friendship over this one. The political cowboy and Tomi Lahren came out with GREAT videos about their side on this. The Military is NOT a social experiment, I'm fine if you want to be trans but why in the hell should we allow someone to go on a high pressure field, with guns flying everywhere, that doesn't even know what gender they are? The military has the highest suicide rate and next to that is the LGBTQ+ community and you want to mix them? Yeah, how about no. And the ones complaining about this matter, aren't even the ones in the Military. Have you seen the Military's opinion on it? Trump sure has, and he got his opinion from it. If I can't serve because I'm flat footed, have a peanut allergy, or things like that why should a trans person serve?

I'm fine with a closed door meeting that the President sits in on? Some meetings are supposed to be kept closed, how do you think things get "leaked" to the nasty fake news left wing press? Some things are supposed to stay kept away from the people whether it be for a short time or forever.

Anthony Scaramucci? Sorry for his divorce but I kinda like him. I also think it would be stupid to let Sessions go. But he is the President and can do as he pleases. I could careless about people taking breaks or quitting or being rehired.

Also let's get this straight: Donald Trump doesn't go on vacation at the tax payers expense.

My twitter feed is blowing up saying "Ann Coulter for Homeland secretary", what a great choice! They believe her "meeting" with Trump was an interview!!, the good lord could only hope.

Now something I really wonna talk about/love - THE WALL! 1.6 Billion for a down payment! Progress!

I'll be back sooner or later, maybe.

Except healthcare is an industry that the consumers don't necessarily have the benefit of being able to make informed purchases. When you are having a heart attack finding the most affordable EMS and hospital isn't a luxury you have.

Medicaid/Medicare have been trying to use their sheer purchasing power to lower price points for a long time now, usually always rebuffed by the GOP.

Health care is not suited for a capitalistic business model, like education and other vital services in our nation.

Capitalism is a necessity for success but it is not a solve all solution.
    --- Double Post Merged, Jul 29, 2017, Original Post Date: Jul 29, 2017 ---
That is literally how it is now.

The Pentagon disagrees with you. I'm tempted to trust the people who know. There has been no real evidence that shows trans people put any threat on the military or reduce capabilities in anyway.

Using a coked up new York banker is pretty establishment right? Not swampy at all?

Except he literally does. The security costs are enormous, we pay for that via federal tax dollars and tons of overtime for cops they pay for each localities he visited.

You think a shock jock is qualified to deal with national security?

I think the only solution really is to marginalize your side as much as humanly possible. You guys simply can't be trusted to use common sense.

    Umm not particularly.

I could careless what the Pentagon says. I do know the only people complaining about this are either transgenders who are currently in/were in the Military or isn't serving at all.

If he is a good candidate for the job then yes, idc what his current job is.

Except the great President Trump has not gone on any vacation? So no, you are once again, incorrect. Cops are supposed to protect the President wherever he goes, so don't act like he is wasting money on protection because Obama and literally every President before Trump and potential Presidential candidate has the same protection.

Ann Coulter is a well educated woman who is qualified for the job.

Ahhh I knew it was coming, you can't not throw an insult at someone who disagrees with you.

I'm OK with people disagreeing with me. Ask @MeepLord27 - I haven't insulted him.

I have an issue with people purposely ignoring all objective information in order to keep the narrative to their fantasy going.

A person who thinks a shock jock is qualified to keep our country safe is delusional. Someone who doesn't care what the people responsible for running the military say about the military is straight delusion.

You, sir, have no knowledge about anything and your ignorance is selling our country out. People like you are unpatriotic and don't deserve a vote and it's our job as citizens (from both the left and right) to remove any shred of influence from your group to spare our country from your cancer of ignorance.

    Voting isn't a right, it's a responsibility.

@Deinen You don't insult him because he doesn't particularly like Donald Trump (just like you don't). You sit here and call my opinion "stupid" and say I have no "common sense" to make yourself seem smart. Let me go back in time a bit.... You are the one who first started name calling on this thread to me, then I name called, then I got in trouble for it, then I stopped and you continue to do it. This debate will get no where because YOU only care about your opinion and if someone significantly disagrees then its stupid. I have had enough and don't want to debate with someone who can't debate with throwing a personal insult. Voting is a RIGHT as long as you are a LEGAL AMERICAN CITIZEN who hasn't committed a crime that has stopped you from voting. Learn your rights/laws. In the end, Donald Trump is President so ill take it upon myself to leave this thread (again) because its pointless. You only care about the ties Trump doesn't have to Russia. Have a blessed day!

Obamacare is still payed for by people who aren't using Obamacare, unless you think people opt into paying obamacare, which is counterintuitive to the goals of obamacare. I strongly disagree with Obamacare but you gotta try harder than this.

Dude transgenderness doesn't have anything to do with you combat ability. Its literally a bunch of cosmetic choices.

    The government serves the people.

    Source?

Anyway if this happens then Milo becoming press secretary is an inevitability.
    Also, whats you twitter handle?

The Pentagon is full of experts.

It would work if the pharma companies didn't pay for tons of lobbyists. It also doesn't need to be a government solution, if people organized and used their market clout to get better prices then no amount of filthy lobbyists could stop that.

You have a moral obligation (or a responsibility) to vote in a democracy. Anyone who doesn't vote is being irresponsible. Rights and responsibilities aren't mutually exclusive.

Can you give some examples of evidence that could potentially become public that would make you think Trump had worrying ties to Russia?

Mmm, I suppose you're right in saying that the levels of secrecy were different--yet the concept behind them is similar if not the same in scope.

Where does the Pentagon disagree with him? Since Trump has taken no steps besides his idiotic tweets about following up with the transgender ban, the Pentagon hasn't done anything. But the Pentagon never outright disagreed with the policy itself, did it? Please correct me if I'm wrong, though.

The vast majority of transgender people in the military were assigned male at birth (7300 male at birth vs. 1500 female at birth, in 2014), which seems to imply that they're transitioning from male to female. MtF transition severely affects athletic ability, as it's theorized that the lack of testosterone reduces muscle strength and agility. Also it's harder to lift, as people start using estrogen

    14th amendment, section 2

But when the right to vote at any election for the choice of electors for President and Vice President of the United States, Representatives in Congress, the Executive and Judicial officers of a State, or the members of the Legislature thereof, is denied to any of the male inhabitants of such State

[The] right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.

I should mention that you can join the Military with ADHD. I asked a recruiter, as someone with ADHD.

And you aren't gonna do your transition on the front lines...
"SERGEANT THE TALIBAN HAD US PINNED DOWN"
    "Grab my scalpel..."

Also there were tons of hearings on the ACA.

    None on the Republican alternative.

if I met him at a casual party and he weren't rich or the president or anything like that, I would probably look down on him a lot. I want a president who I have any semblance of respect for but he's so petty and conceited I can't bring myself to.

Well, okay, but you can't join the military if you've taken ADHD medication within the last year, or if you display significant symptoms of it, so...

But the entire process of transitioning takes years, and people in their transition inevitably end up on the front lines.

If they can pass the same strength tests as everyone else, fine. But the military can't afford to "be inclusive" and diversity at the expense of fighting capability.

Voting isn't a right, which is why prisoners cannot vote and in some states felons lose the ability to vote.

Voting isn't a right like freedom of speech.

But prisoners don't really have freedom of speech, either. Like, if you're imprisoned, you can be punished for calling for/organizing a mass protest or something.

By the 14th amendment, section 2, disenfranchisement for criminals is an option for states. But voting nevertheless is still a right.

Here's the relevant text below. I bolded the relevant parts so it's easier to read.

But when the right to vote at any election for the choice of electors for President and Vice President of the United States, Representatives in Congress, the Executive and Judicial officers of a State, or the members of the Legislature thereof, is denied to any of the male inhabitants of such State, being twenty-one years of age, and citizens of the United States, or in any way abridged, except for participation in rebellion, or other crime, the basis of representation therein shall be reduced in the proportion which the number of such male citizens shall bear to the whole number of male citizens twenty-one years of age in such State.

"But when the right to vote at any election is denied or in any way abridged, except for participation in rebellion or other crime, the basis of representation therein shall be reduced.

This implies that states can choose whether or not to disenfranchise their prisoners.
