I can honestly say that I haven't known you very well, but to be honest this is the first I have heard of this gold blocks thing. However, putting it in your application is a wonderful thing to do, it shows the community that you aren't proud of it and you really regret it. I have seen you in shout and I have to say I have never seen you be blunt, mean or anything other than kind.

Well Deinen, having seen your work first hand, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't impressed. I can go on and on and on about why this should be accepted, but I'll just +1 it to make things short and simple.

Um, Deinen was one of the best helpers MeepNetworks had to offer. So I will tell you first hand that Deinen isn't "going to be weird to be helper". Now, if all staff were to be oddballs sometime, then that's not good. If all staff were to be 'just mature', that's not good either. So if this is why you gave him a -10, I say let Deinen be a helper for the shear sake of balancing things out.

 

I cannot say what a great asset you would be to the staff team. I am sure you will find a way to fix what has been broken lately. +10000

Okay, now that I'm more awake... My thoughts haven't really changed since last time, so I'll plagiarize myself a bit:

You're very active, helpful, hard working, intelligent, and knowledgeable. You created a "Newbie Academy" at Lakewood to make sure that new players have an easy place to go for information about server commands and tips and tricks. For the most part you're kind to people regardless of rank or status, which is appreciated. And you've contributed some great ideas and discussions here. You're somewhat argumentative, but so am I, so it's hard for me to criticize you for that! I hope you'd be able to moderate that a bit more as someone who represents MeepCraft. I wasn't around for your previous run as staff, but I believe you'd make an excellent Helper.

You know this from our conversations, but I want to clarify that I don't think arguing/debating/disagreeing itself is a bad thing... having a diversity of views can be great for a staff team, as long as everyone is respectful and people aren't undermining each other's authority. What I meant in my comment is that you'll have to be careful not to get as carried away as you can be now, because (as we've seen here) it can make other people uncomfortable, and not in that good/challenging sort of way. But I don't think you should stop speaking up, and I don't think you could.

I don't agree with a comment earlier that you somehow support an "anti-staff" movement (though this may be referring to things that happened in the past). I've seen you defend staff many times from criticism that you felt was unwarranted. That post that Fluffbear linked to actually shows you getting fed up with comments about how old staff were better than current staff. You do openly disagree with some of their decisions and policies, which is different than being "anti-staff." To me, it shows that you care about this server and its community enough to feel strongly about things that you believe hurt it, and take time to come up with logical arguments to change them (even if others - including me sometimes - don't agree). If you rejoin staff, though, keep in mind that you may have to enforce rules that you don't think are good, and in ways that you don't think are good. You'll have some freedom to use your discretion, and more opportunity to suggest changes to the way things are done, but you'll still be subordinate. I know you've been in that position already - I just don't know how things may have changed from the time when you were staff before. But you're a mature and reasonable enough person that I think you can handle it.

Also, I understand if, after your ban and the events leading up to it, some people have difficulty trusting you. That's why I said before that I think it would be appropriate for you to spend a good amount of time as Helper - even though I agree with a lot of people here that you would do a great job as Mod or Admin and wouldn't have a problem with that myself.

Yes. FluffbearRCT's posts were basically saying, "Here's why I have a personal problem with Deinen, don't like him, and judge him based on things I don't know anything about." He's welcome to those opinions, but they don't have anything to do with whether or not Deinen would be fit for staff. They also can be taken as a judgment of other people on this server who a) Enjoy making well-thought-out arguments that they feel strongly about, b) Have disagreements with Fluffbear, or c) Are "too old" to play Minecraft or want to help the MeepCraft community. HAB, thanks for coming up with a more coherent response than I could last night - though I would have left out the name-calling.

I didn't mean half the things I said. He's had a past of some bad judgement calls, from what I've seen. I was trying to provoke him to prove me right, but he didn't take the bait. It makes me happy to see that he responded in a calm, almost-apologetic fashion. Obviously he realized what I was doing and backed off.

I don't exactly know why, but I don't get along with him well. My first post was harsh, so I'm sorry for that. But I was basically testing him to see how he'd respond. This thread has definitely improved my opinion of him though.

I didn't mean harm to anyone. My post was sort of a test instead of an actual opinion. I'm sorry if anyone was hurt by it. I'm already way over the post limit for applications so I'll stop responding now.

Well well well... Look whos back. Hello Matthew. I see you want to be a staff member again. Well I for one have some things to say.
First: I see you online a little bit but not much. Either that or your just quiet.
Second: As well as before, I do not see you on t.s much as well with in game.
Third: You are a nice chap and should be rewarded with a mature job like helper.
Forth: You have become a lot more mature over this last year. I remember when you got banned for spawning in the gold and that was a stupid thing to do.
Fifth: I do see you getting involved with the community a lot on the forums, however I don't see it enough in game.
Last of all: As with everyone else (mostly) I will say you are a nice chap to be with over all.
Conclusion: Over all, I will say I'm either -/+ or a +1. I wish you luck like before and don't spawn in gold.

I think you are absolutely correct on this. I'm not intending to be mean, but I am failing to realize the age of the crowd, and that text is very poor to convey emotion. I need to word my statements less blunt, and not have such a sharp edge on some things. This is something that will happen, and thank you for informing me.

Krazycat600, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. Please, quit this server, and may God have mercy on your soul.

 

It is his life and he can run it the way he feels fit. Video games were meant to be played, any age group can choose to play them. Doesn't matter how long or how much they play on it, it's what they were made for and it generally makes people happier. I don't play games to much but when I do, I don't mind it being something behind a screen, I think of it as something I bought and something I may have time for and something I want to do as a past-time. So in a way, I don't think you should ridicule deinen about any of this. It's his life, let him lead it how he wants to.

 

So, while I was not aware a minecraft server staff application would turn into a greater discussion about the details of my life, I will play along in the spirit of being open, like I generally am. I've been laid off since December. Due to my choice in careers, screenprinting, and the location I am in, the markets gets soft at times, then picks up. Outside of a full time job, I have various projects I work on in a freelance style, which provides nicely.

Which leads to answering why I spend so much time on minecraft. The answer is quite simple, it is a fun, simple, and most importantly cheap waste of time. If not for, I'd most likely be out, and spending money, which becomes a concern when you're an adult, as you'll learn eventually.. I also think you view me as older than I am, if you haven't forgotten, our generation created these games, and revolutionized how they are played. I've been a gamer since I was 6 years old, playing text based D&D RPG games on local bbs's using a 9600 baud modem.

So I hope these satisfy those questions about me, and I feel more importantly perhaps this lets people who don't know me as well get to know me just a bit more.

 

I think this is perfectly reasonable when I am of your age I truly hope I also remember to have fun from time to time. Also I don't really understand why this application turned into a discussion of your personal life, you may be open but that is still your business, it should not effect your induction as a moderator.

 

I feel absolutely no requirement to respect Fluf's opinion when it consisted of uncalled for insults used to get a response out of Deinen. It bothers the hell out of me that you sit on this judgemental high horse towards Deinen when you are a 13 year old dependent who knows nothing about having a job, financial responsibility, or being a father.
