No I am saying that the measurement was probably incorrect in some way; did you read the article I attached?

Oh please. You're the one who ignores facts or calls statistics you don't like biased, not me. Actually, the reason why the Republican Party has become so polarized and moderate Republicans like me can't find anyone to vote for is because people like you and Mr. Trump systematically ignore facts and statistics because you don't like them.

You're the one who won't believe global warming is real (no, not that it's not human-caused, or that it will be harmful like most climate change skeptics--you straight-up deny global warming) despite the preponderance of evidence that says otherwise. At what point will you take your head out of the sand, uncover your eyes, and learn to not ignore things you don't like???

    Yes and I disagree.

for the rest of the nonsense you posted. I believe I have stated that I believe in the old global warming and not the new global warming.

    Certainly!
New Global warming: Caused by humans, were going to die if we don't stop, the Earth is going to catch fire (maybe this is a religious thing? God promised never to flood the Earth but he never said he wouldn't burn us all!, maybe he's giving us a taste of hell?) temperatures are rising and they won't go down. Life on Earth is going to end and were all going to boil and blah blah blah. (the people that believe this are also cutting our trees down).

Old Global Warming: (the one smart people believe in) Every few hundred years the Earth cools and then it warms up. The Earth is going to warm up and then it'll cool back down. Its more natural and not caused by humans. If they were to cut into the ice they would see it hasn't been frozen for that long.

This has been done and the conclusion was that Antarctica has been frozen for roughly 34 million years.
Source: since you like Fox News so much.

But it is heating up at an abnormal level that's also unprecedented. Can you continue to ignore that humans put massive amounts of methane and CO2 into the atmosphere? Look at Venus, whose atmosphere is mostly CO2. It suffers from a runaway greenhouse gas effect because heat from the sun heats up the planet, and CO2 prevents the heat (in the form of infrared radiation) from escaping the planet. And Venus is pretty damn hot, with an average of 860 F distributed pretty evenly across the planet.

Edit: before you say this is because Venus is close to the sun, Mercury's average temperature is around 800 F on the side facing the sun, but on the side facing away from the sun, temperatures can go down to -290 F (negative 290 degrees!!!) This is what a greenhouse effect does.

Not what I'm trying to say. I understand the ice has been frozen for millions of years, I'm talking about the surface ice. The ice that is "melting".

If you dig to the bottom of the ice you'll see its not melting. The melting ice is whats at the top (surface). If you dig to the bottom you'll see the ice is not melting and has been melted for millions of years but if you look at the surface of the ice you'll see it has only been frozen for a few hundred years. Were coming out of global cooling and going into global warming (which is a process that repeats itself). Just like in your "chart" showing the cold temperatures from the 1800's to the warm temperatures now. Back in the 1800's were were still in global cooling leading into global warming. We are "worrying" because we have more technology and the scientist are making an issue out of it for money. The more they can "research" the more they get paid.

Holy shit, have you never seen ice melt before?

Fill an ice tray with water and freeze it solid. Then take it out and watch it melt. Spoiler alert, ICE DOES NOT MELT FROM THE BOTTOM UP!!!!!

The surface ice is melting because it's the part exposed to the sun's rays, which means it's getting heated.............The bottom ice is not melting because, duh, there's a layer of ice on top of it that is cooling it down.

My point exactly! (please don't try to make me feel like an idiot). I'm saying that because were coming out of global cooling the top of the ice is melting. If you look at how long it was melted for you would see that we were in global warming hundreds of years ago.

Yes of course has. Snow falls on top of ice, more snow falls on top of the snow and compresses it into ice. How do you think ice sheets are formed?
    --- Double Post Merged, May 3, 2017, Original Post Date: May 3, 2017 ---
I still don't understand. The top of the ice sheet isn't very old. Okay that makes sense. But ice is melting faster than it's forming, which indicates that the ice sheet is no longer in equilibrium.

My lord, I literally don't know how to explain this any clearer. I'm nearly done with this debate.

OK so your point is that since the top ice hasn't been frozen for too long, it's fine, right?

What he's trying (and failing kinda miserably) to say, I think, is that the ice that has been melting is ice that has frozen over the last couple hundred years during a cooling period, and before that there was ice accumulating there, which is a cycle that has been repeating for a long time while the ice at the bottom is still frozen from when ice first started accumulating on the Antarctic continent as it drifted south.

You should just accept the statistics that human emissions of carbon dioxide has dramatically increased which led to heat being trapped in the atmosphere which led to the earthly generally getting warmer over time.

I don't care about Death Valley or how ice forms and melts, what we should worry about is how to get the earth from warming so that we won't have sea levels rising to flood our islands and destroy our cities.

I know that the earth has gone through cooling and warming patterns, but it is predicted that with this rate of carbon dioxide emissions, it can cause devastating affects which the humans have never experienced before. You can't just sit here on the Internet and try to convince yourself and everyone else that this is all normal when your home in Florida could be merged into the marine environment.

His point is that since the ice that's melting was just frozen during the last cooling period (or so he says) and the ice that is millions of years old isn't melting, then we don't have a problem because we'll eventually go into another cooling period and all the ice we lost will come back, leaving the million-year-old ice untouched.

I don't get why this isn't a problem though. If you drill an ice core, it'll show that ice accumulated slowly over millions of years. If this behavior were natural, you'd expect to see gaps in ice cores where top ice (from the last thousand years or so) melted off, and then new ice formed over it. But those don't exist, which demonstrates that today's behavior is unnatural.

Thank you @Ranger0203 thats what in trying to say. Guess I suck at wording things.

Anyway, @metr0n0me No, it would nearly melt together. Global warming is just a way for science test to get more money for "testing". It's a money scheme. Then when global cooling comes back around and the scientist we're "wrong" they'll go on a rant about how the Earth is getting colder then ever before and soon we're all gonna turn to ice!
