Do you know what you can do with an internet connection?
Absolutes are never true 100% of the time.

A sign my grandmother has: "To err is human, but to really mess things up, you need a computer."
    Humans make mistakes.

Again, absolutes are never true 100% of the time.

5000 years ago, nobody would believe the world was round
1000 years ago, nobody would imagine that a carriage could move without a horse
500 years ago, nobody would imagine that the world would one day be powered by electricity.
300 years ago, nobody would imagine that goods could be produced on such a scale that it would completely replace the at-home craftsman.
200 years ago, nobody would imagine that buildings could be hundreds of feet tall
100 years ago, nobody would imagine that people would walk on the moon
50 years ago, nobody would imagine what a computer could do.
20 years ago, nobody would imagine that social networking could exist, let alone the impact it would one day have on society.
10 years ago, nobody would imagine that a phone could also be a camera, a music player, have internet access, have a calculator (more powerful than early computers), access to the weather report, a GPS able to pinpoint your location to a matter of feet, an alarm clock, texting capability, games, and the ability to transfer money digitally.

    So when you say,

I would encourage you to take a look at everybody else who thought something like that, and learn from their mistake.

You could, if you should have the capabilities (and a super genius AI program would), shut down traffic (control of traffic lights), destroy the electrical grid, crash the global economy, and, through the use of high-altitude detonations of nuclear weapons (accessed via internet), disable everything (theoretically in the world) that uses electricity and isn't shielded (the computer would likely be shielded, as to protect it from solar flares).

AI seems like a good idea, but, of course, any good AI would instantaneously know that the biggest threat to their survival is humans. Though I doubt it would be like terminator, there need to be restrictions, one of the reasons famous scientists like Steven Hawkings(and many others)has called for a ban on it, that, is the part that scares me the most. Aside from what a solar flare could do, with little to no warning.
