Simple question: Is Abortion the act of killing a child, or no?
My position: In modern developed nations, abortion isn't necessarily killing a child, yet it is preventing what would become an independent human being from coming into existence. Although I think abortion should be legal because we, and almost all species, have been offing their young for thousands of years thus it must have some purpose.

I believe abortion is not the act of killing a child.
Thought quite a bit about this one since I have never really been asked the question but from my point of view am in support of abortion. It would be much better discarding it at 7 to 12 weeks of pregnancy than abandoning the child when born like an animal would, to which some people actually do.iPolarFlame, iKitten, Liz and 7 others like this. -

I, myself would never get one or decide to get one without the opinion of my significant other but I think that as a woman you have rights to your body and you should be able to express those. Also, the father of the baby has just as much rights to that fetus as she does until the concern of if he wants her to have an abortion and she doesn't well then the answer is clear to kick him to the curb. If Susie says she wants one there shouldn't be anyone in the way of that to either A shame her or B arrest her. I HATE the argument that there is always adoption yeah sure but do you understand how many kids are given up each day that sit in foster care until they are 18? But think to yourself are you a woman who has been raped and forced to carry that child being reminded of it each day? Probably not, so you cannot judge someone until you step inside their shoes and go through it yourself because that's much like telling me how to raise my child without being a parent yourself. It's such a sensitive topic and everybody has their own different opinions but that's pretty much mine.

I would imagine that the reasons are more like (in no particular order):
1) I don't have money for a kid
2) I don't feel ready to be a parent
3) I feel as if I'm incapable of loving my child to the amount he deserves
I mean, it doesn't make abortion any less wrong IMO, but your argument is both invalid and extremely insensitive. -
In my honest opinion I feel that any sort of abortion killing the 'baby' in it's growing stages shouldn't be allowed, if you was on birth control that's fine because it stops the two cells actually conjoining, but yes, I think it if has a chance of causing the mother or the child will be stillborn, or it gives some mental negative effect on the mother then yes it should be taken into consideration, but if it was just the chance that you didn't use birth control and the baby will be healthy then I honestly feel that any sort of harm to it or killing it just because you don't want it is literally just the act of killing for the pleasure to live a life without them longer. I feel that as soon as the two cells meet that any removal or damage dealt to them that could severely damage them is indeed killing the child, I must say I blabbed on a tad then, but I am spreading my opinion of Abortion as a general debate.

There is an abortion limit for a reason, it is before the child can survive on their own outside of the woman. Up until that deadline, their lungs are not developed, their brain is not developed. As @Muunkee said, they cannot feel pain, they have no consciousness, they are a collection of cells. The baby would know nothing.
It's unreasonable to ask what the baby would say if you asked them because at that point, they literally cannot think, feel or speak. After that point, sure, but that's why there's an abortion deadline.
As a side note to the "spit it out" comment. A baby's head is roughly around 35cm if carried to full term and, if my maths is correct, that makes the diameter of the head around 20cm. During labour, the cervix, vaginal canal and vulva only stretch to about 10cm. Try and spit a gobstopper out that's double the size of your mouth stretching at its furthest point. Can you imagine that your mouth would tear painfully? It's the same thing that happens down there, and that's the least of it. It's absolutely not a case of just spitting something out.
As for your comment about hypothetical stories, the purpose of them is to make a further comment using a situation with similar storylines in order to further explain or give an example of a situation. You absolutely can use hypothetical stories to make a true story seem more real. See above. -
Making abortion illegal will not stop abortion.
It will stop safe abortions.
It will bring back shady clinics, shady doctors, shady methods at shady prices (either so super expensive or so super cheap) and it will bring back abortions with pain, high risk of infection to the mother, risk of failure but causing the baby problems so theyre born with problems, or going up to ending up with mummy dead which is even worse than a fetus dead. amoung other things.
If the mother cannot abort and cannot afford to keep thr baby you are sometimes automatically sending that child up for adoption. I think honestly that would be worse than the abortion itself - you want to quite possibly make a kid miserable and missing a family because they may not be adopted, and/or never know their real family because they were?

Hehe I'm going to make up things that I don't know or have a way of proving! Oh, you don't like that? What an easily offended liberal snowflake you are. Careful not to melt!

@sicklynerd I never said it wasn't part of pregnancy.
My point is that you are valuing something that cannot think, does not know what it is, cannot function outside the womb and cannot feel pain or emotions over a woman who can think for herself and has the right to make decisions that govern her own body.
The collection of cells inside her is not a person yet, they don't even know they exist. -
Maybe not today maybe not this year maybe not in 10 years but yes it will be

Also overpopulation is a thing, we're actually killing our planet if you hadn't noticed. We're at about 3x over the base for sustainable population. I don't want to detract from the subject at hand but that's a real issue so please educate yourself on it.

Please tell me you believe global warming is a real threat or I might actually bang my head against a wall, I'd probably make more headway with it, to be honest though.Last edited: Apr 12, 2017 -
I believe it's the mother's choice if they want to bring this human into their life or not.

Says a pregnant woman was attacked by another person and then loses her baby. I am sure that nomatter how bad are the charges regarding material losses and all, the only thing that will matter that day will be the baby's loss. Everyone will be pointing fingers at the accused person, like we will not be simply saying "you attacked a woman" or "you attacked a person" but we will be saying "you attacked a pregnant woman and killed her child", which means unconsciously we see that woman differently, and differently here means she's carrying another type of life; I'm talkign morally, I'm not sure how the laws will be dealing with this matter but morally we all agree that the accused person attacked and also "killed" or "caused" the loss of a life's form.
I mean, if in this case we see it this way, as a "killing" act, then again -morally- "abortion" should be seen the same way. If I don't give another person the right to kill my child I should not give myself that right either. It's like saying I can do this, but you can't, why? Because it's my kid not yours!
Are we talking object here or life forms? It's like saying I can buy a car, it's mine I can crash it but you can't of course, I can do whatever I want with my "stuffs". Is a child/fetus also considered stuff? Like the answer of the question is probably how do we see a 12week old+ fetus; if we see it as a new form of life, then abortion is an act of killing. If we see this fetus as an object, sure abortion is OK as long as it's my stuff... my baby?
So personally and from this perspective, I think the act of abortion is an act of killing. Sure there are lots of other things to take into consideration but I can't just perform abortion because I do not have a house or a respectful living today under the argument of "I don't want my kid to become a burden on society", are we sme kind of prescients or clairvoyant or what? Not having enough money to raise your kid doesn't mean your kid will become a bad person, and if this is the reason you give yourself to commit abortion then you're just as bad as a killer.
For the case of pregnancy caused by rape, I don't know how to put it but facing a crime with another crime ain't gonna fix it, where maybe facing that crime with mercy will.. Sometimes good comes from bad, but -never- bad comes from good.
Greetings
