Stock/Share basics: If you are buying those 20 shares of Intel Inc. IRL, then you make the price go up, a sliver. That's why on "market burner" days when stocks go into bear, prices drop further, because some people don't want to deal with the price dropping further, or at least that's what they think.
If you are buying those 20 shares of Intel Inc. in-game, then you don't impact the real-life market, but at least it teaches people about stock investments and makes Meepcraft live up to its Economy Server name.

My thoughts put into new words. The stocks addition isn't meant to impact the market irl, as companies, nor the NYSE or other mediums and exchanges, would care or have heard of Meepcraft, most likely. It's meant to teach people about stocks and how they are useful investments, be a better way to make money on Meepcraft, and make the server a higher representation of its Economy Server Name.

The players IN GAME don't affect corporations. Although it's not like real-life stock investing, it's close enough and serves its purpose.

yes that is true. Community stocks with the way it would work would be just like this

but the thing is a real life market would be a better teacher than this. a custom community stock exchange would be better in that regard

There are many points here that I'd like to argue so lets break it down

this is true. None of them care. None of the companies care either because their price wouldn't be affected at all in the real world. I dont want to repeat myself all the time but this system is less immersive than community stocks.

I don't really understand this argument? meepcraft is educational? I dont think staff have any reason to want to make the server educational. While you can learn basic skills from meepcraft its also important to say that much of whats possible on meepcraft isn't in the real world, and much of whats possible in the real world, isn't on meepcraft.

I like the idea of making money through a stock exchange. But it isn't a better way to make money than community. In the normal system that you are proposing the money gets spawned in. Its not a circuit it comes from server leading to inflation. the community stocks version however does not have inflation as the money travels in a circuit. If I buy 20 stocks from twomoos mooville moovers the money goes to him, but if he makes a bad decision or if his company produces lackluster results, and I choose to sell the stocks then the money I gain from selling comes from him

I think the server can do better than close enough

My point here is that it helps Meepcraft live up to its name in an UNDERTSTOOD, easy for NEW PLAYERS way that serves its purpose and is a good way to make money on Meepcraft.

People who understand the stock market would already know what community stocks was after a quick tutorial. If the player didnt know what stocks were in the first place then they wouldn't benefit from this anyway

Again, which comes to mind first: Mooville Stock or Apple? Also, most people don't pay attention to tutorial, and because of it, many have suggesting getting rid of it.

If a town had stocks how would it decide the dividend? Would the mayor just set it?

Exactly, then Energy or Inateur would have to add ANOTHER plugin on top of stocks

People will most likely become familiar with the towns and the companies before they find out about stocks
As for the tutorial thing thats messed up. You need a tutorial for a server that runs towny

I agree with @the boss . The advantages of having a stock system based off of either idea is that it provides an interesting new way for players to earn money. The ability to trade stocks allows players to play with the ideas of investing in stock markets without having to actually risk their money.

The reason I agree more with @the boss 's idea more than @AwesomeAdoGamer 's idea is because it has more depth and has more immersion. If stocks are based off of in-game towns or businesses, players can not only earn money through investing but can also be given options to help fund projects and to create more interesting businesses. Keeping the system in-game also keeps stock prices fairly grounded on something within the staff's control. Using real-life companies breaks system from the players by keeping players out of Meepcraft. Shouldn't players be earning money on the server from stocks because they understand the SERVER instead of any other company? There feels like incentive to trade stocks when the money is circulated by the stock system rather than when it's just picked up from the server bank.

Well, again, compare when people joined and when they heard of things like "PseudoCorp." In fact, PseudoCorp is the only Meepcraft company that comes to mind besides Horneman's, and I don't even know the name of it.
As for the tutorial, ask higher-up staff on it. Ask the players about it. We need to remodel it, significantly, to make sure players understand the server and don't get confused, frustrated, and seen "34d, 22h ago in Spawn."

Well, then again, people were heavily discussing ways to invest and make money off of stocks. The server was more active and people were anticipating the market's open. Having Meep-Companies' stocks instead of real-life stocks would not only make the server more confusing, with many new plugins by techs to allow towns to go public, with dividends and total shares, but also with percentages of the town bank that would be sold off in shares.
Companies would be even harder, with a /company plugin, or something like that, having to be implemented. If you think new players now have a hard time understanding the server... "OOF" is a word I describe their experience with "Meep-Company" stocks.

However, with more proper, real-life company stocks, we don't need the additional plug-ins and would simply need to re-install the old plugin, but with fixing the 15-minute or so late opening time. This exploit caused it to be shut down and if we fix it, we can help
    Make Meepcraft Great Again.

Companies with tradeable stocks via gui aren't a thing, so therefore additional plugins.

They wouldn't be the actual stocks then. The issue is Meep can't have the current stock prices, there has to be a delay. Only way this works is if Meep only lets you have an interaction once a day. (No one wants that)

Make it like last time but make minimum delay like 1 sec or as low as possible, like try to make it the stocks app for iphone. It has slight delay but nobody can really abuse it.
