You can be appreciative of the police while still being critical. That being said I am thankful for them but at the same time I believe the system allows for discrimination and racism and in some cases is racist and discriminatory. So not all cops but the system as a whole is flawed that allows for abuse.

America isn't racist saying a country is racist is kinda dumb because I happen to believe we are more diverse than most countries. Stereotyping cops as racist is also dumb because while there may be some who are, claiming the whole workforce is one thing over another is prejudice.

Generally, from what I have heard about, police end up shooting people preemptively because they make threatening movements. I doubt any cop has walked right up to someone and shot them point blank when they had their hands on the wheel and were cooperating. Usually it is because the person made a reach or a sudden movement after the police told them to not move. The police deal with violent people a lot in some areas, and they have no idea what you are doing if you make a sudden movement, and statistically, you are about to pull a weapon or try to run from them. It’s your job to comply and to act as unharmful as possible.
Also, regarding tasers: police use tasers very often. But you’ll probably never see the headline “police tases man during struggle” because it happens so often and it’s not shocking. But “police shoot and kill man during struggle” is more concerning and tends to be a headline. This makes the impression that police are constantly shooting people when the reality is, police do make an effort to use their tasers.

Just because some cops have been put in jail for murdering people with a racist bias doesn’t mean all cops are racist. In fact , I’m sure around 1% or less have been jailed for explicitly shooting someone on the bias of race.MeepLord27, Blue_Marlin, GunwaleAtlas and 2 others like this. -
Overly simplified and biased question and poll. America has more institutionalized racism than other developed nations, which is expressed and evidenced by the countless unjust killings of unarmed black men.
