Skepticism is fine and is a good quality to have. However, it's going to be extremely important to understand that the MeepStaff is a team, and it may make decisions as a whole that individual members disagree on. It cannot afford to have individuals act contrary to what the staff as a whole has decided--this would show a lack of unity, and this has always been been bad juju in the past.
Make sure to not confuse being "brutally honest" with being "brash." Meaning, you can still be honest and up front without being rude.
Response not entirely related to the app:
C++ is actually insanely similar to Java in several aspects (albeit having multiple differences). This is especially true when you consider the various paradigms; for instance, if one learns how to utilize functional lambdas within object-oriented C++, they are going to have a better time utilizing lambdas in the very object-oriented Java programming language. If someone learns about design patterns in Java, they're going to have an okay time utilizing design patterns in C++. Even pointers, which both always and never exist in Java (lol) are more easily understood once fiddling with the stack and heap in C++. Furthermore, those who start viewing languages as tools instead of lifelines can use the analytical skill garnered from learning any language and apply it to most any other computer language in some fashion or another. I'm sure you'll find that if you learned C++ properly, it should be relatively easy to catch on to Java quickly.
