When did you join Meepcraft? Late 2012/ Early 2013
Introduction: Hey! I’m Owen, and I’m 14. I was born in Australia and have never left its shores. My hobbies include music, programming, and gaming, as I’m in two bands at school and a coding club. I play cricket and a little bit of tennis, but I’m more of an indoors person than going out and about. I’m also a form leader at school, so I take responsibility of preparing and setting up form activities for my class, which is every three weeks. I’ve also had experience with debating and public speaking in primary school, which enhanced my confidence for the years to come.
I discovered Meepcraft back in 2012, when I received Minecraft for Christmas. It was only in the 1.4 version back then, but I was fascinated by this basic building and crafting game. Minecraft was my introduction to gaming, and since then I’ve expanded my scope rapidly. I quickly grew tired of single-player after a while, and started to search the internet for servers to play on. After a few hit-and-misses, I came upon Meepcraft, and since then I’ve been addicted to this server. I’ve had a few periods of time in which I lost hope in Meepcraft, but the one thing that always pulled me back was the community, and the people who all cared for each other.
Why should you be Helper? The Meepcraft advertisement says it all: "Want to give back to the server? Apply for Helper at meepcraft.com". This message has inspired me to apply, and I want to contribute back to the server that has filled a massive hole in my life.
• Experience – Playing on Meepcraft for a long time has helped my knowledge of unique commands and features that apply only to Meepcraft, including the Towns plugin. Although I have never been Staff on this server or any other, I have played for long enough to memorize nearly all server and towny commands. I’ve owned a numerous amount of towns and have successfully built all of them up to a good status, involving commands, acceptance and guidance to new players in the town. I’m glad to help anyone out if they need it.
• Cooperation/Open Minded - Being one of the older ones in the coding club means that I am a “go-to” person for issues and bug fixes, with kids as young as 10 coming to me for debug assistance. Cooperation with younger and less experienced people is a key aspect in resolving conflict, and this key feature can be transferred into a situation on Meepcraft. I believe that every opinion could be something great, and should be listened to as it is a revolutionary idea – because who knows? It might be.
• Timezone – I’m usually online in the morning and at night. 8am for me is about 6pm for the USA, and 5pm is about 3am. When logging on at this time, one or two staff are usually online, if any. If an urgent issue occurs, and no staff are online, it could be catastrophic for the future of Meepcraft, and should be dealt with immediately. This can be prevented with moderator activity in the early hours of the American morning.
• Patience – Sometimes, debugging programs in the coding club takes a lot of effort and I’m usually ready to deal with the problems head on and not lose hope. All problems can be solved in one way or another. I’m not usually a “fast” person unless it’s really, really urgent and needs to be done relatively soon. If I have the chance to go slow, I will. If a person goes afk without warning for an hour, I won’t be angry or frustrated with them. This could not always be a good thing, as this could lead to laziness and that’s definitely not something I want as a Helper.
• Work Ethic – If I’m doing something that I enjoy doing, I will get it done. There is no question. Coding is a clear example of this, as it involves a number of difficult problems that the coder must strive to overcome. Even though it may take a number of hours, days or even weeks, I will strive to get it done. This is proven in my school projects; in the weeks leading up to assessment due dates, I will stay up until over midnight attempting to get as much of the task done.
• Responsibility – If I’ve done something wrong, I’ll admit it straight away. I think there’s no shame in mistakes, and it’s just learning something that you shouldn’t do. You must be a responsible person as a Helper, taking ownership to take that last modreq when you’re about to log off for the night. Responsibility is shown in my form leader role, preparing activities every few weeks for the class. The thought of a happy, smiling class drives me through the inconveniences and struggles, and helps me complete my goal.
I believe I am a great addition to the Meepcraft Staff Team due to the key components I could bring to both the Team and the Server.
The Team would benefit my accompaniment in ways of communication and teamwork. My ability to have an open mind would benefit ideas of everyone and consider all suggestions, even though they may not be great ones. I could also help relieve the Team of their staffing duties, taking on a responsible role to make decisions quickly and fairly if needed be.
The Server would benefit from my addition also, as I have many good ideas to improve the server I have been playing on for many years. I believe Meepcraft deserves to be better with the amount of effort that has been put in. Many small ideas make up a big one, and those small ideas, such as fixing that sign or removing that accidental block may make the difference between a small server and a big one.
What are your weaknesses? • Talking Without Thinking – This happens quite often and I’m learning to control this. I sometimes just blurt out my thoughts into global and it’s not always the best comment. Thinking before Talking is a great way to show maturity, and I believe this is a slight issue I have. However, I am taking action to limit this and to show respect to everyone’s feelings and thoughts.
• Shyness – Although I’m sometimes on Discord during peak hours, I find it hard to make conversation like I do in global. I’m afraid people will judge me based on my accent or voice, but I’m learning that Meepcraft is a friendly place and that they accept anyone.
Please give any other information you might think is useful for us to know: Thank you for taking the time out of your day/night to read this application! All feedback is highly appreciated.
