Lol I was born in Singapore and raised in the US. I learned Chinese pretty well and then forgot all of it right when I hit elementary school. :P

seems you don't know about chinese schools. ok, we learn chinese (mandarin), also pin yin (how to pronounce).

pin yin is only for mandarin, there's no pin yin for other regional language ( for example: cantonese)
