It's amazing, really. It pretty much depends on your unit though, in my darwin unit I had the time of my life where as in my brisbane unit it was sort of more.. Eh. But still really and really cool, would definitely suggest trying it if you're interested.
What happens? I was wondering what would happen seeing as I'm at school... where would I go? When? I've honestly got no clue about anything to do with it, except what Wikipedia knows.
https://www.cadetnet.gov.au put in your postcode to find the unit closest to you. When you find it, it will have a parade time. Example [Parading: Friday 18;30 - 22:00]. You will then go there at that time, fill in a form, and that's it.
And some of the high ranking officers will go around inspecting them (they must be washed, ironed, shoes polished) and then for the rest of that night you change into civies (everyday clothes) and play sports or something fun.
There's a unit 20 minutes walk from my house, down the road from my school. I'm going to find out more about it for now, but it looks/sounds like a great experience.
I asked my Dad what he throught of the Navy/Army/Air Force, and he said you're stupid if you join... I might not mention it to him now. I suggested what if it was for life experience... he said it's a stupid way to get life experience. Slightly worried...
Eh... the cadets are all right in his book. He just wants to know why. He'll flip out if I tell him someone online that I've never met told me. He's all about internet safety .-.
Trust me, it's not a stupid way to get life experience. You learn a fair bit about how the world ticks, you learn self respect and discipline. It's like scouts, but just way cooler and stuff. It also earns you respect in the community generally.
