Hello everyone,

Many of you have been asking for a response to the Open Letter to the Meepcraft Staff by The Sith Coalition. Due to the nature of the changes which are being made internally on the staff team, I feel it is better to make this a public announcement rather than a reply in a thread which may later be lost or archived. To break things down, I will be first explaining the inciting incident and the details surrounding it, then detail the response to that directly, and then closing with how things are changing moving forward.

With the launch of Meepcraft Reimagined and namely Towny Extreme, an exploit was discovered which caused a portion of the world at the border (approximately 1/32nd of the total land at the world border) to generate incorrectly with disproportionately higher rates of rare minerals which do provide direct gameplay advantages. This issue was promptly fixed by decreasing the world border by three hundred blocks from a radius of 10,000 blocks to 9,700. Upon investigation, several players were discovered to have used this error to their advantage by mining in this region. After conducting our investigation, we determined three players who had knowingly used this to their advantage in some form. It is easily understandable that someone might stumble into this region on accident if coming from underground, and as a result those who showed no knowledge or intent of using this region to gain an advantage were not punished in any way, shape, or form. These bans were deemed as "bug abuse" because players would exploit these server errors without reporting the issue in any way possible while obtaining an advantage over other players. To clarify, this error was a fault on the part of the server and especially myself for missing this. Additionally, with the increased rarity of ores within the world, some many long standing members and veterans of the server took to x-raying.

Many members of the community took issue with the approach taken by the moderation staff team in regards to the bans. A number of them were upset at such a large number of people banned for x-raying while a majority of the issues taken were regarding VKL’s ban due to him mining an incredibly small amount of resources as well as only visiting the region once for a very short period of time. Most of the underlying issues from the playerbase’s perspective are summed up here. After this was posted, we spent a considerable amount of time discussing it as a high staff team to determine the best course of action. The conclusion we reached was that simply responding to the thread would not alleviate the concerns the community has. We opted to meet with the authors directly, which led to LordInateur and myself to hop over to a voice call on Discord to discuss the group’s concerns. Afterwards, the high staff met again to discuss the best possible course of action moving forward, then called in the rest of the moderation staff for a meeting to discuss how to best adapt to a returning playerbase and respond to the issues brought up by the community.

The moderation team has reached the conclusion that drastic changes are needed in our ban policy. When dealing with cases of longer temporary bans and permanent bans, moderation staff will reach out to banned players directly to discuss the matter with them rather than simply waiting for an appeal. We recognize the community as a whole is more mature than it was perhaps five years ago, and MeepCraft is in a very different place as well. The purpose of the rules have always been to create a fair playing field and retain high community standards. However it has become abundantly obvious that merely skipping straight to the “banhammer,” so to speak, is not the best path for encouraging a community to grow and develop except in an emergency (or if they happen to be named AdrianBFaust). As a result of changing these policies, we also felt it was an appropriate time to review the list of every permanently banned player from MeepCraft and have decided to unban a vast majority of them. Blacklisted players will not be considered for an unban while others may contact a high staff member to discuss the possibility of returning to the server and its community. This will not change our approach to short temporary bans and mutes, which will still be enforced. The new policy will mostly apply to hacking and cheating offenses which historically resulted in an instant permanent ban.

We hope that this change in policy will further encourage the MeepCraft community’s growth and maintain its integrity. If you happen to be currently banned and wish to discuss your ban, feel free to contact a SuperMod or Administrator to arrange a time to meet on Discord.

Probs a lot of typos.

Alrighty… Here it goes. This is long overdue and I am sure many of you will be happy to hear this. I have decided to resign from the staff team. This is due to several reasons. The main reason is that I am clearly not needed. I have done several things for the server and virtually no reward has been placed. People often say “Staff is a thankless job. You shouldn’t expect something in return for your work”. The truth is, we deserve a lot more than what we currently have. We don’t get a thanks, we don’t receive any perks, and we sure as hell are not appreciated by the community. I really wish that could change, but it’s not like we can change their opinions, haha. I just wish there was something more to keep me motivated. If you have been on the team for as long as I have, then you would know how frustrating it is to do the exact same job 365+ days in a row. It is not fun. I do not enjoy it. The only thing recently I have enjoyed is the team itself. Don’t get me wrong, the job was fun, but I just can’t keep doing this. I love a lot of you so much. That is the main reason I have not left yet. You all made me feel loved, even though I don’t deserve it. I look forward to talking to all of you everyday. That is why I have stayed so long. Another reason is, I feel like the server needs to be improved. I don’t know what could be added to it, but it is not moving forward, and I think ALL of us know that. I hope that the admins and tech can do something to improve it. I can tell it is going forward already, but I need to take a step back. I would love to help improve it, but I just can’t. I will possibly reapply in the future, and I hope if I do that I would be accepted. I see a lot of ex-staff get denied. I care so much about this server, so never deny that. I spent a whole year of my life helping, enjoying, and improving this server. I would love to do it again. I wish there was an ambassador-rank for mods. I need to step back, but I want to help. I am going into high school in a week or so. I could hardly handle middle school, so I highly doubt I could juggle a full-time mod job, plus high school. And again, if I find out that I would be able to handle it, I will come back full time, but I have major doubts as of now. My depression had gotten a lot worse last school year, so I may need to focus on the spiritual side of myself for a while as well.

It has been the best year of my life so far. I met some of the greatest people ever. When Junior and I were the most active staff. When Bam and I would just enjoy being here. When phoenix and I would talk all the time. When zoe and I used to just have fun on the server. When klutch would always make fun of me on ts xD. These were my favorite memories. I loved this year so much. I can never forget the memories. When Phoenix and I helped junior cheat on his English quiz. When Junior, Bam, and I would just troll people in wild all day. I miss talking to tae and interdesirename on teamspeak. I miss coolers turning my town to water. I miss talking to zoe on teamspeak. I miss the fun application meetings. I miss mod applications. I miss Shain always making fun of me lol. I miss the competitive nature of helper trying to get mod. I miss mod interviews. I miss Deinen. I miss working on my town. I miss all of it… I miss the way it used to be. If I am being honest, the team is not nearly as close as it used to be. It feels like it is separated. Like mods are the rulers of the helpers. Like the supers are always our superiors. It used to be all of us. One team. We were all the same, and other people just had other jobs. I literally have to worry that a supremod who has been here for 1/4 of the time I have will demote me. I am not doing anything wrong. I just want to help. I think everyone needs to become a team again. This is literally a Minecraft server. Chill. You don’t need to be better than anyone else. If everyone would just realize they are the same and all doing one job, everyone would be so much happier. People need to use teamspeak more. That is how I met all of these wonderful people. I consider many of them to be my favorite people. The following people are people who I will never forget.

@xtJunior You were my best friend. We dominated the staff team. We were the best, I miss you.

@BaM_Nitro I am sure you hate me now because you have this stupid other personality now, but the person you used to be was one of my favorite people ever. I miss who you used to be. Talk to me on Skype sometime please.

@KlutchDecals I’m gonna be straight forward with you. I always knew you were never going to give me supremod. I need you to know that I stayed on this team because I cared, not because of a dumb rank. You also gave me excellent memories. I miss the relation we used to have. We never talk anymore, and that makes me really upset.

@PhoenixAngel80 Love you. You were my meep mom, we would talk every day on ts. We made the best memories. We were always in meetings together. The day you left is when I truly stopped trying. That is when my job was no more to me. I had none of my old friends, and that is what made me happy. Please talk to me more ;(

@Deinen I’m sure you aren’t going to read this, but I always looked up to you. You were the best leader ever and I always respected you. You better get admin again someday…

@Cooleysworld You will also never see this, but you gave me all of my interviews. You saw how much I cared. You were a great leader and you need to come back…

@DevilSpawn112 We used to talk a lot too. Every time I think of you, I always get reminded of the old team. I think you were amazing.

@shains One of my all time favorite supremods. You truly knew how to run the staff team. A great leader for this place, and I respect the hell out of you.

@ImNotBlonde You always make me laugh. We had awesome memories on teamspeak. Writing this makes me remember how good everything used to be. How I never had to worry. Thx for being a meeper.

Sorry if I forgot anyone… I love everyone I mentioned here.

I’m sure many of you hate me, but I just want this place to be happy. A place where people can be excited to spend their day. Where people can all just be the same and not have to worry someone will demote them. I want the old team back… I don’t want to be forgotten. I want my work to be remembered. I want to be known as adloves. Someone who tried, gave a lot of his time, and someone who cared. In the end, I will be forgotten. I will just disappear and people will be like “Hey remember that adloves kid?” and they will all just keep on with their day. I want everyone to realize what I am saying. I want people to realize how important this team is to me. I want it the way it used to be. I will never forget this, and hopefully I can come back someday. I love you guys so much… I had so many issues when deciding if I should do this. I have some of my best memories here. I just wanted to be remembered. I don’t want to just be some nobody. I donated so much money, time, and love to this server. A whole year as staff. I just wish there was some way. I really hope meep makes a comeback, and when it does and if I have the time, I will be right there to help. I know this is really dramatic, and I hate to make things this serious, but I just want the server to know how much this place meant to me. To me, it wasn’t just minecraft, It wasn’t just a server. It was the place where I could feel comfortable. Where I could be myself. Where people would hate me because I’m that weird kid who walks through the hallways. I wasn’t just some nobody here. I meant something here. Isn’t that what we all want. To be something? How strange it is to be anything at all.

Ok now for the even worse part. I am also quitting the server most likely. I do not know how long for, but I have no plans to come back. I just can’t believe I wrote that… This is just very difficult. It is something that my favorite memories are from. Last summer is when I made the best memories of my life. I made some of the best friends. That is what makes it difficult to leave. I plan on staying on the forums occasionally, but not often. I will probably keep my money, but I might sell my town and vault. The hardest part about all of this, is I won’t be able to go on slack and talk to everyone… This is just painful. I am sure so many people will just make fun of me in the comments. “It’s just Minecraft”, “Who cares?”, and “Who even is this kid?”. That stuff isn’t funny… I gave my time, and a hell of a lot of it. I don’t want my countless hours of work to be made fun of. I truly do care, and seeing people just destroy that would not be ok. I care about this server sooo much, but it just isn’t nearly the same anymore. It may sound like I was saying something against the server/staff, but please know that all I want is the best for this place.

I don’t want to say it’s because of school. While that is kind of true, it mostly isn’t the main reason. I have been very inactive anyways, and I can’t come online anymore. There is nothing to do. I find it sad that at the beginning of my run as staff we had nearly 200-300 player average, and now it is 100 or less sometimes. I mean absolutely no disrespect because of this, but we all know it’s true. The admins need to figure this out. We need more high staff (lady hestia needs smod and deinen needs admin). With that, they could figure something out. I have said a lot of different stuff in this message. All of it is true. I hated my job so much, and I loved my job more than anything. The server is dying, the server will always be alive. All of it is true at the same time. It is all stuff that I have thought on this journey as staff. All mixed feelings, all great, all bad. This server made me feel things that I never thought I would. I hope that everyone realizes this...

Alrighty, with that being said… Goodbye meepcraft… Thank you for the memories. You all saw me grow up. You saw me get extremely happy. You saw me close to losing myself. You saw me cry tears of joy. You saw me feeling loved. You saw my care. You saw me become me. I will NEVER EVER forget this place. It was the best time of my life, and I can’t get rid of those memories. Thank you for letting me become part of this wonderful server. I hope someone will remember me… Thank you for the memories, thank you for showing me myself. Thank you for everything… Goodbye.

Spawn is not functional. Whoever built it did so with the art of it in mind but not the functionality.

I have played Meepcraft for ages now but when I returned to see this spawn I was lost, confused and frustrated.

Why are all the play modes in an unlabeled ring? Why do things like the bank have a hub but not towny etc? For a new player this does not cater to them staying for long and I feel like this has a lot to do with our current population issues. The Airship also seems like a vast waste of a hub, it is less important than most of the other playstyles and yet it gets one. The only thing I feel was made with functionality in mind is the player shop. Just my two cents.

P.S. Too much pink. Way too much pink.

 

Hey Meep. I wanted to take the time to recognize the helpers that have been added to the team in the past few weeks. This is a great bunch, and they put a lot of hard work into keeping the server clean and functioning. Thanks for all that you do guys.

As a lot of you saw, I have been kicking, banning, and muting a bunch of people lately. I wanted to give you an insight to the why that most of you crave and I figure this is an alright place to do so.

As many of you know I recently bought a house and moved. I bought an old farm house and it needed work so I was pretty much forced to take time away to get things in order to set up my new office. I was gone for approx 2 months but was still active on the team chats. I was talking to family who came to visit and see the new house and my younger cousins (who love minecraft) asked me for the server details of Meep. I was caught kindof off guard when I realized I wasnt sure if I wanted them to play here because of all the negativity in chat and the malicious content I see on the daily. I know we have a good staff team and I was confident we would be able to hide all that from them, but I realized Meep needs a lot of work to get back in order to be a lot of fun again. It put me in the mode where I couldnt wait to get back on Meep and start fixing things. Getting new PVP servers up and fixing mini-games people have been pumped about. When I left, things were in full cruising mode and just going smooth. When I returned however, a different story emerged.

I was greeted with a town named "Klutch_Queercals" from Magnoot. Now, I make a lot of jokes and can certainty take some, but Meep was not only NOT the place for a name like that, but I have never made jokes like that towards Mag as I feel jokes of that level are reserved for friends. I got annoied and messaged Mag (No kick or ban) just to simply say "Change it". I was immediately pushed back against with "You make mom jokes all the time on your teamspeak!" and "You're a hypocrite!". Called a few other names and found myself having to defend myself while asking for the simple task of a rude town name to be changed.

A day goes by and I am seeing people type about a funny creative build. I teleport there and notice a few crucifix and people cracking beers, ect, but nothing harmful and seeing as it was FamousZamos build, I knew he was doing it harmlessly to get a laugh. I figured id let it slide and carry on. I then see about 4 people in a small building and teleporting people there. I went inside to have a look. Saw some interesting things but 1 in particular of me in a sexual position with another staff member. Now again, I go back to this is NOT the place for that type of content in the first place, but again I dont know Zamos like that and dont expect jokes to be made about me on that level when we are not friends.

I used a ban strategy I like to use when I feel something NEEDS to be discussed and I perm banned him. This was to ensure we would have a chat before he was unbanned as I felt it was important to hear from him, why he thought it was alright to make a joke like that on Meep. If I had simply 1d or 3d him, he could ignore me and go right back to it in a little while, but I felt the conversation was one that needed to be had.

After I made the ban, I was welcomed back by DarkKnight with nothing but arrogant comments in global as to, (How the ban should have been handled). I was flamed and again, called silly names in global. Carrying on about how "You can guess who did the ban", ect. After I asked him to stop a few times, I got MegaStufOreo logging in and beating to the same drum. "That ban isn't a perm, its a 1d". "He shouldn't be handling his own issue", so on and so fourth. At that point, I had muted both of them because I had enough of the arrogance in global. Thats when Creepersareokay started messaging me and typing what they were saying into global, so he was warned, continued, then muted as well.

After a few minuted I'm messaged "You should TP to Dark and see what hes writing about you on signs". I go and see that hes flaming me and continuing his arrogant, ignorant rant about how its bias and how I'm power tripping, how I'm a man baby, ect. To the point where I permed him as well.

Thats most of the story, but now to address a few things. I know a lot of you joke with me and thats fine. Despite rumors, you can certainly joke with me and im all about it. As long as it stays friendly like, Nerf king, Eco cop, whatever you want as long as its all in good fun. When it becomes harmful or personal, thats when I have the issue. I dont attack any of you on a personal level and I expect the same from you. If it was one joke, Alright let it go, but its CONSTANT from this group. Im the never ending target of the malicious content that comes out of 1 core group of individuals, and I've had enough. I dont think its fair that I have to feel uncomfortable bringing my family on a server I administrate on for free because of a core group of players. The malicious content I see posted in global is what I'm trying to kick as we NEED PLAYERS to come to Meep, and stay. You all complain about a lack of diversity in Meep and prices getting stale and we need this and that, but the common core issue I find is that we just need an influx of players to come to Meep to get things moving in the right direction.

To those that want to be "edgy" and find things in global, this book passage from a book I read yesterday is very fitting and you should read it. Consider it your warning as I will NOT be tolerating ANY negativity, disrespect, bullying, or any other type of content that isn't joyful around Meep. PM me if you have any questions.

Can we get a status update from something/someone other than a tabloid?
Where are these promised additions? Where is our money going?

Someone suggested I read trello, quite a well structured document, clearly the supremods of the past have laid a beautiful foundation for people to build on, but after reading it over and over for weeks I was lead to an even bigger fear... There is enough junk on there to occupy techs for over a year(there are some old things there...). 1.9 support? 1.10, 1.11? Sounds like we should hire a tech right?A completly bs estimate by me of 2-3 FULL TIME paid techs and ~all of summer.

I started a great thread on a new way to fund/accelerate this process through honest donations not customer purchases(ranks) but I was met with this response: "Denied, we currently do not feel this is needed." -Munkee.
HOWEVER: Earlier in the thread that same community member was in favor for finding a way to fund techs. Since she used "we", I must deduce that her will was broken and like hundreds of staff before, 3-4 people said no in a closed room and she was forced to do her job as staff and support the server even if it means going against one's own beliefs.

I even specified that I wanted input from you @Fuzzlr directly, and a helper closed it...
Who is actually making the decisions for the server we paid/would pay to support?
Do we not deserve to know that?

So, with all that given....
I want to be optimistic about meep's future like I was when I read actual words from the owner/operator nearly two months ago.

Can I/we get an update thats not hot air like the promises made in meeptimes is?(sorry but saying we added something to trello is the same to me as saying creative is coming soon*2k13).

Sorry but the language used in that Eula thread painted a picture of a fuzzlr who was truly upset about the changes and honestly wanted to stay involved. Yet there is a visible lack of interest on your part in making sure your own team is actually capable of doing their job. They seem to think they are, since they denied my suggestion of physically paying you money to hire techs..;/ Either that, or you know what your plans are......which brings us back to:

Where is our money going? What is the status on hiring techs to clean the bakers dozen of issues on trello?
Give us a roadmap that isn't a candy land road named trello.

Where are you? We need you more then ever.

 

I have wrinkles from cringing. I'm so sorry to those of you that I annoyed and I'm sorry to those of you I hurt as a result of my middle school angst. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to make those mistakes on a Minecraft server and not in real life, however, and I appreciate those of you who put up with me and I completely understand if you did not like me. I was so angsty and annoying. I'm still angsty and annoying but at least now it's in a teenager way and not in a middle schooler way.
Do you know when you try to go to bed and you remember all the embarrassing things you did once? Yeah. Some things I did make me laugh, but most things I did make me cringe. I'm just sorry to everyone who had to deal with me during that part of my life. I also somewhat appreciate all of those experiences, as I have learned something from all of them.

Meh, frankly - I wouldn't worry about impressing Matt. Going outside and throwing a rock in your window is probably more productive use of your time.

 

So...... I was inspired to make this thread from adloves "the end" thread. Reading his thread brought back great memories and I realized how rude I have been to people that I care about on meep. I decided to make this thread to let those people know that I'm truly sorry and I care about them. I'm going to be very busy this year and will probably have no time to play meep or any games in general. My family is going through a rough time and I need to work and plus school that would be very hard to have any time. I just want to let you guys know that this past year of playing meep has been the best year of my life and its all because of you amazing people. I don't wanna be remembered as a person who resigned from staff and became toxic which is why I'm attempting to apologize, I don't expect everyone to forgive me but I hope it makes things better. Please know that every comment I make about every person is coming from the bottom of my heart.

@Fuzzlr Your probably not gonna read this cause your busy but...... I feel like meep has great potential and can easily be one of the best servers if you keep being active and listing to your community. You should be more interactive with your staff team and actually play meep for yourself to see what needs to be fixed first and what isn't that important. A business will never grow with an owner that doesn't care. I hope that sometime next year the server will be at 500+ active players.

@Cooleysworld You are a great dude and have done so much for the server, I just wish your activity will be stable this time around and that you don't disappear for another year. I believe you can improve the server a lot if you were more active which I know you are trying.

@KlutchDecals Probably the best human I've ever meet in my life. You have been there for me so much and I feel bad that I have let you down by bashing your staff team so many times. I just want you to know the only reason I hated on them was because I was jealous that they were staff and I didn't have the time to be one. I will never forget the things you have done for me, I know that you will do everything in your power to improve the server and I believe that you don't get thanked enough so thank you for everything <3

@Summers I remember we use to be good friend and I remember telling you it would be a good decision to apply for helper from the bottom of my heart. I'm sorry for all the things I have done to you even though sorry won't do anything I hope that you know I mean it from the bottom of my heart and I care about you. Again I hated on you since you were staff and I wasn't, I hope that you forgive me. If there is ever anything I can do for you then hmu.

@xtJunior One of the only people I would never get bored of. We made stupid jokes and would talk for hours on ts. just know I miss ya and hope to talk to you on ts again soon.

Well that took forever lol, I care about every single one of you and want to thank you all for the amazing year and impacting my life so much. I don't know what I would do without meep in my life. Lots of people say "meep is dying" but I know that meep is going to grow and become better than ever. Meep has such loyal players, EULA took away fly and /fix but people still donate and still play. I'm truly sorry for making anyone's life miserable. I miss all of you already. I will stop by every now and then to say hi on ts or in game. I wasnt going to post, but I've decided it may be good to inform people of the false statements in this silly post.

You rage resigned after my "Yay for LOL" thread because you took it seriously like. . . no one else. It was a thread to lighten the mood and let people get the final anger out after a pretty heated argument. Ive been doing this for a while and although you may THINK you know everything, You have much to learn as far as people skills go. I was also thanked for that thread a few times.

I want to say I'm sorry to break the news to you, But Helpers (in most cases) have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what a good idea is. Most of the time its something like, "Hey! Lets add something like the stair chair plugin! What could it hurt!". Its the helpers job to put fourth those ideas and mods as well, but they are SUGGESTIONS for a reason. with the supermod/admin position, our job is to look at all the negatives, and also go to a test server to fool around with em and see if they're good or bad. Sometimes even we screw up and dont catch things (like the ability to use stair chair to get out of Spleef and auto win every game). Those are bug fixes that we then have to go through and fix or get dblo to come up with something. You may not see us fixing them or say "you're barely active", But you dont see 90% of it. Modreq checkups, going on alts to check information and tips we get, Talking for hours to banned players, ect. So no, you wont get to add everything you want, but if you have good ideas, dont think we dont see and appreciate them.

They call this Rookie syndrome in the police force. Its what happens when a new officer gets a sense of empowerment. The problem is you make enemies fast because you are now disciplining people. Its also kind of what happens when parents start discipline their children. Its tough sure, but we warn every single person in interview that they WILL be hated on. If you cant stand the heat then unfortunately staff isn't for you.

Once again you fall into the "You dont know what you're talking about" category. You have had ideas like making players pay to sit on each others heads in spawn, and also argues with me on a ton of ideas that were simply a waste of time. I know you dont see them that way because in lala land you think everything grown on trees and Fuzzlrs wallet has no bottom. We pay dblo, advertisements, (not sure if you even knew we just paid $400 to advertise on TopG) and we also have to pay to keep the server running, Which im sure if you go calculate the cost of over 10 servers running your head will explode. I know your response will be something along the lines of "Why are we advertising a broken server". The answer is because we need donations to pay dblo or a new tech to fix it. Simple as that.

Theres no leadership role that you can see because you think you run the place. Every time you're told no you argue then disappear. The morale was low because certain staff find the need to compare everyone to everyone instead of having a grand old time. All I see is "Omg _______ made a mistake and did this! demote or?" Instead of just taking it upon yourself to teach them. You expect team morale when you do NOTHING to boost it. Also, The reason we admins sometimes cant attend is because we are on polar opposite time zones. We also have full time jobs. Theirs NO reason supers, mods, and helpers cannot accomplish the necessary tasks that need to be addressed in a meeting.

I have no hard feelings. I also have NEVER heard any of this from you. Never received a message about concerns. Its easy to sit back and try to pick apart a server from a viewpoint of no actual responsibility. We however, High staff, Need to make sure the eco stays in a solid place. Balancing eco drain and floods. Its not fun and we need to deny a lot of things you think well help the server, But in the end its the job.

To end this off, No response to fix it? We are adding a custom UHC and Sky wars, as well as adding a crate system to get special items to make the economy swirl. Ooh yeah 1.9 is coming as well and with new items and enderdragon and endermite heads coming, Meep will be back soon. Dont you worry about that. Us inactive, non existing leaders will handle it.

I dont want to leave this without saying however, I do, and have appreciated everything you've done. When it comes to work ethic people can deff take a lesson from you.
