I just got done learning about immigration in school. Here are the facts I got from several hand outs
The size of the unauthorized population stands at just under 12 million. The Pew Research Center estimates that unauthorized immigrants comprised 5.3% of the US labor force in 2010. This is down from 5.5% in 2007. Three fifths of unauthorized immigrants have been in the US for more than a decade. Over half of unauthorized immigrants age 25-64 have a high school diploma or more education. Nearly half of longtime unauthorized immigrant households are homeowners.

This is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. They are taking jobs that Americans don't want! Do you want to pick potatoes in Idaho for minimum wage or less? What about clean hotel rooms for minimum wage or less? Someone has to take these undesired jobs and illegal immigrants are willing to do it for less than minimum wage. This also saves the company money so they can produce more stuff for us.

I think the best way to go about immigration is to integrate them into American society and make them legal law abiding citizens kind of easily. This way they will have to pay taxes and whatnot and we don't have to spend time and money to deport them back to a country where they might get killed.

People think that Nixon was the worst president because he was impeached over the Watergate scandal. Also you forgot to mention how he started pulling our troops out of Vietnam.

Yes, you shouldn't take everything said on the internet to heart but goddamn if you're a rude ass to someone constantly then you are a bully regardless if said on the internet or not. We're all human behind a computer screen we have feelings if you want to act all hard and mighty behind one then go for it but don't say everybody should just hit delete or block. Blaming someone for "Self-Victimizing" is ridiculously stupid you shouldn't be a jerk face to someone you've never met. Not sure if this is your way of interpreting your actions said here on these said forums but that's what it sounds like to me.

They did a study on millions of cows, and found that they were not affected at all by GMOs.

I can ask many people what a GMO is, and many won't even know where it comes about. In truth, GMOs have been used since long before genetic engineering and predates our understanding on how to use restrictive enzymes to cut/paste favorable traits in the DNA of our crops. Cross pollination is a natural method of creating a GMO. The idea of being able to rip into the DNA of an organism and take out unfavorable traits and/or add favorable traits seems to strike fear in people. Believe me... bio-engineering involving the modification of DNA offers no major hazard because it's impossible to accidentally add something that can harm you. By the slim chance that they mess up a DNA modification, bio-engineers would immediately see the problem and not release the crop to the public.

You are able to make crops last longer, grow bigger, and even add nutrients inside them. An example would be a common genetic modification on tomatoes which includes removing an enzyme that causes them to go soft. There is nothing new added, but people seem to be scared of it because they don't understand it. The tomato is just as healthy as before, but it now has the benefit of lasting longer.

The problem here is lack of education. I've heard the dumbest claims going as for as "radioactivity" and "deadly chemicals" involved with GMOs. Literally, anyone with a basic understanding of how genetic modification works will tell you that GMOs don't cause the health problems that people are so worried about. I bet most people against GMOs don't even know what a restriction enzyme is, let alone how GMOs affect people and animals.

Now... to be on the fair side. I'm concerned with only one thing about GMOs. Pesticides. Pesticides that are grown as a result of GMO organisms pose a threat to our ecosystem... particularly that of the honey bee. Humans and animals can safely consume the crops, but unsuspecting insects wouldn't be so lucky. If we can do aware with the pesticide enriched GMOs, then there is literally no threat to allowing GMOs.

It's like someone being scared of drinking a clear liquid even though scientists can confirm it's just water.

Kieran needs to be paid for living. It's an outrage that he lives for free.
    Why?
He's just that good. It should be his job to live. He's doing a fantastic job at breathing, feeding himself, and sleeping, but what are we doing to say thanks?

Here's how we say thanks: Server-wide, we pay him 50 meebles a week.

I'd say this is a humble amount, considering how great Kieran is. It's entirely doable.

However, I do think that PainCakexx19997 should be taxed 1 million per week because he's capable of doing that.

Simple question: Is Abortion the act of killing a child, or no?

My position: In modern developed nations, abortion isn't necessarily killing a child, yet it is preventing what would become an independent human being from coming into existence. Although I think abortion should be legal because we, and almost all species, have been offing their young for thousands of years thus it must have some purpose.

Starting this thread because I dont want to hijack the other one. Ill continue from the conversation about children getting guns.

Its really never a kids fault if their parents didnt teach them, or learn through maturity. Most kids think guns are toys because thats all they're introduced to. Toy guns, Nerf, Videogames, Ect. Its really sad.

I HATE this video because its extremely bias and anti-gun, but it does show a good example of firearms with kids and the "You cant teach the curiosity out of a child" ideology. Worth a watch even though its long.

    Flu shot season!

...Also the season of pesky middle-aged moms and dads saying "I ain't gon let my baby gurl get flu shots 'cus it puts the flu in ya!" in their Facebook statuses.
...Yes. It does put the flu inside of you. You know why?
BECAUSE THAT'S HOW YOUR BODY BECOMES IMMUNE TO THE FLU

Quick health lesson: Your body has to have experience with a certain sickness before it can form an immunity to it.
When you get a vaccination, they are injecting a harmlessly small amount of the flu virus in your bloodstream so that your immune system can, well... FORM AN IMMUNITY. TO THE FLU.

this goes for all other vaccinations, not just flu

    ok thats all bye

Bumping this back up for the sake of stating my own opinion on this topic.

Gay rights is, in my opinion, a big issue, and something that I fully support.

I believe that no matter what your personal believes are, you should support gay rights. I am a Christian myself, but I don't believe that being homosexual or any other sexual orientation besides heterosexual is a bad thing, and I don't believe that homosexual people are any more likely to go to Hell than heterosexual people are. If you do believe that homosexuality is wrong, it shouldn't really matter, homosexual people should still have equal rights. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing on your beliefs or calling you wrong if you do believe that, you can believe whatever you want to. However, even if you don't support homosexuality, that absolutely does not give you the right to control the lives of others based on your beliefs.

Everyone should be able to live however they want to, as long it doesn't harm others, and homosexuality doesn't. On top of this, homosexuality is not a choice, but a natural thing. There's been a lot of studies to confirm this, but even if those can't convince you, think of it this way, if homosexuality was a choice, then why would many people who are homosexual spend years before they come out of the closet because of the fear of being rejected, discriminated against, and treated differently, when they could just "decide" to be heterosexual instead and then not have to worry about any of this?

Back to religion, if you're a Christian and you are homophobic, think of the parts of the scriptures that say things such as "Do to others as you would have them do to you" and "Love your neighbour as yourself". Would you treat yourself this way or want others to treat you like this because of something about yourself that you think is sinful? Probably not. Most sins are regarded as bad, but aren't treated as too big of a deal when they are done, because everyone sins. So, if homosexuality is a sin, then why is it treated as something so much worse than many other sins? People shouldn't be treated differently just because they sin in a different way than you do. Also, if gay rights and/or homosexuality in general is illegal, then should that mean that all things that the Bible has scriptures against should be illegal too? Should things such as eating pork, eating shellfish, wearing torn clothes, tattoos, etc. be illegal too? And the thing is, people can choose not to do these other things, but most of them are easily forgiven or not really regarded as sins, but homosexuality is not a choice, and it is considered worse, and I don't believe that that it how it should be. If you do believe that it is a sin, you should still accept homosexual and not treat them differently, just like you accept other people that you know despite their sins.

Another thing is, if you're a Christian, then you most likely want to spread the religion to more people. So, what do you think is a better way to do that, by being kind and accepting to people no matter who they are, or by discriminating against them and not accepting them because of the way that they sin in your eyes? I don't know about you, but if I was not religious, I probably wouldn't consider becoming a part of a religion if its followers treated me like that.

Overall, whatever you personally believe is okay, and you should be respected for your beliefs just like other people should be respected for theirs. But that does not at all give you the right to control the lives of others, discriminate against them, and be jerks based on what you believe. Just be nice, loving, and accepting to everyone, and let them live their life how they want to and by being who they are. :)

I'm on the fence about abortion, on the one hand it kills babies, which I'm all for. But on the other hand it gives women a choice, which I'm against.
