Custom Town Ranks

So, this would be a cool thing to have added to towns.

So here it is

This is a command that can be run to create town ranks. With these town ranks you can customize the rank's perks. I don't mean just Building/Destroying, or being able to open containers/doors. I mean like being able to take money out of town (co-mayor), being able to invite players to town, claim plots for town, and of course the regular Building and destroying and being able to open containers. For example, you can make a town rank that can build in your town and invite members. When you create these town ranks you can name them too. So when you want to give someone your custom ranks, you just type the normal command. But running the same command may have difficulties implementing, so I have created a new command for it, and some other while I was at it. Here they are.

So here's an example of each command.

/t rank p create Job
/t rank p perms Job enable Invite,Kick,Build,Destroy (If rank has more than 1 rank, they msut be separated by commas)

/t rank p edit name Job NewJob
/t rank p edit perms NewJob toggle Build (This disables building) /t rank p edit perms NewJob Claim (This adds claim to the list of perks)

So here's the part where I think this is useful.

I have many times in my town wanted to get that one rank that gives only the perms I want them to have. This would not have any donor perks, as seeing it's just a towny command. It wouldn't create lag either. It shouldn't be too hard to implement either. I do not think this is just a needles command, yes it's not a big addition, but it is really useful.

Hope this gets added soon, please post in the comments what you think, and if you disagree, please state why.

Some rules about this

1. You may only have 5 extra town ranks

2. If the name is inappropriate (blocked by the filter) you cannot create it.

3. If the name of the rank is inappropriate, but it isn't blocked, you can report it

This was suggested awhile back, in one of the town hall meetings and in the suggested page. I'm pretty damn sure if was concluded impossible to code. It's really hard to mess with the towny plugin because you may accidentally wipe literally everything.

But, if there's been a change of heart, +1.

This is the exactly the type of idea that would take MeepCraft from being just another towny server, to being a towny server unlike any other towny server, including the mega-servers that have a crap towny but thousands of players.

This is an excellent idea, and a must if this server ever considers customizing their game-mode to seperate themselves from the competition.

What happens to alpha and beta though? Would one get deleted and the third world put in it's place? what about all that work people have done if that does happen? What do you mean by temporary?

I dunno. Just speculation. I'd imagine if MeepCraft put out a new towny, and it's fundamentally better and more fun than the old towny's, people would naturally play the new and better game-mode, and play the worst game-mode less.

But if you never let go of anything old, how else do you expect to make room for the new?

I can only IMAGINE how many people would be angry. Then again, I would gladly move my stuff to the new world.
I'd hope there'd be a several week, maybe even a month warning if this DID happen, or maybe alpha will become a place of memories.

This is a really good idea! These are the kind of ideas Meep needs. It will make Meepcraft really unique and it will interest new members into joining. If it is possible, I think that it would be awesome if some staff were to talk it over, or at least consider the idea.

Maybe create a whole other towns world and have these commands available on that server, as a trial run or something, just to make sure it's appealing and to make sure it actually works.

You could also add each towny rank to permission groups (friend, resident, ally, outsider). Example: /plot set perm [ town rank] build on.

Perhaps you could also change it so that the same thing applies for friend perms? Example: /friend rank add Vampire_Man_32 [friend rank]. This could work for giving access to certain facilities, as you could make a friend rank for permission to that facility, and then other friends wouldn't have access without paying. Example: /plot set perm friend:[rank] on

If a third world were to be put out, I think more improvements would be needed to ensure that a lot of players were to migrate. Perhaps giving nations more of a purpose?

I'd hope there'd be a several week, maybe even a month warning if this DID happen, or maybe alpha will become a place of memories.

Keeping in mind there would be absolutely no point in a 3rd towny if the towny was just like the original 2. If MeepCraft spent the time and resources developing a custom towny, given that game-mode is their main source of income, then it may be worth it.

This, as Deinen said, would mark a departure from being “just another towny server using the same damn plugin” where the main asset is community, to something a lot more unique and enjoyable. I don’t care if it’s too hard to code; as my dad says anything is possible with enough time and money. (maybe not everything, but you get the point). +10000000

Maybe upon request by the mayor, have admins world-edit towns over into locations of players' choosing? It would be a lot of work though.

If I lost my alpha town, I'd quit for sure.

Same, but, just a question here, could we just keep the same worlds and make the new plugin then replace the old one with the new one w/o having to move the towns?

Or in other words, can't we just update the plugin and keep the same world?

That may not even be possible. Cause the current towny data would be completely wiped, wouldn't it?

Yes, but then again, there is always a way around everything (mostly, and I hope this isn't one of those times where there isn't a way)

In reality, this is possible. However, in the long run it would have to work like Permissions EX where you have to give each rank the specific nodes. I don't know how much data that would consume considering there are probably hundreds of towns on meepcraft, which in themselves would create hundreds of ranks. It's a really neat idea, but it's complicated to program. There would need to be an extensive guide on how to do this, being that the logical way to do this would be like setting groups in PEX.
