Mobs weren't spawning because gold farms ate the capacity of mob spawning (that's why gold farms are nerfed atm).
You will now have a more regulary spawning of hostile mobs!

This would result in only more pigmen. One of the nights I was at Endergaming's island. I've killed +- 4000 pigmen over there. After he AFK'ed for a few hours.

Ender is a she:p And she mostly uses the farm on auto kill mode.
