Changing Town Staff (Rank) Tax (Poll Included)

We have had a lot of ideas recently regarding town staff and the town tax. I have reviewed the suggestions and am going to list here the suggested update to the staff and town tax procedure.


Current system in Towns:

Mayor (Not Taxed)
Co-Mayor (Not Taxed)
Assistant (Not Taxed) Currently can assign VIP to town members
VIP (Not Taxed)
Builder (Not Taxed)
Recruiter (Not Taxed)


Proposed:

Mayor (Taxed)
Co-Mayor (Taxed)
Assistant (Taxed)
Builder (Taxed)
Recruiter (Taxed)

VIP rank name changed to "TaxExempt" (NOT TAXED)

Doing this will allow towns to add the TaxExempt rank to any town member, staff member, etc.

Also currently asssitants can give VIP to town members, this would change to Mayor or Co-Mayor only.

Lets us know by using the Poll and giving feedback below.


Also if we do this I think we would need to keep the tax free status on surrent town staff for a set amount of time so that towns have time to give VIP(TaxExempt) rank to town staff members etc.

Just quickly want to point out larger town owners (such as CluelessKlutz or Vexena) will likely make their town's high staff exempt from taxes as a reward for hard work, so if you are worried about paying a small tax to keep your town alive, consider it has more to do with your mayor's decision than the actual change to tax rules

can we make it so by default, Taxexempt rank is added when you add a staff member, then you have to manually remove it

mainly to prevent confusion and accidents when you didnt want the member taxed but you forgot to add the second rank.

What's the point of the co-mayor and the mayor being taxed at all? They can just take money out of the town bank to pay for the taxes if it is a big town.

 

for small towns it's really annoying to have to put in a few thousand daily, best for it to be automatic for small towns

 

so wait, are we saying that everyone will be taxed, even if you have tax off?

 

While this in its pure form is perfectly fine, it doesn't make as much sense to have the central mayor be taxed, as well. Co-mayor and below, for sure, because then they can choose to pay taxes or not. Assistant shouldn't be able to grant the tax-exempt rank, either.

 

This would only apply if your town has taxes.

No tax for the builder/mayor/co-mayor/etc.

You own the damn town, its yours, why should you pay taxes.

Keep in mind I'm used to old meep... so take what I say with a grain of salt.

 

Builder should definitely pay taxes. It's nice to be able to just give people the perms to build things in the town when working on a project then adding perms to each individual plot.

 

This change would give towns the option of tax or no tax for town staff.

 

can it be named "No-Tax" instead of "TaxExempt" (i assume that spaces aren't allowed)

 

I really do love that you are asking the players about a change before you make it.

 

I think we probably should just keep the VIP rank instead of adding the "TaxExempt" rank, because that sounds unappealing for some reason.
Plus, assuming that what Cooleys proposed comes into effect for most towns I think it would be unfair because there aren't really any VIPs out there anyways (e.g. that there is only 2 VIPs in Athens as of today)

 

Ohh, guess I didn't think about it that way. I thought you couldn't change it.
