The Legend Of Peggy

I represent an organization of past players. It is not important which one.

Approximately one week ago today, I took on the personality of a savvy, sexy, uni-browed woman of questionable ethnicity named "Peggy", who claimed to have spoken with some skill upwards of 8 languages, although with complete mastery of none. She also lived in two countries simultaneously.


"Peggy" was supposed to be an idea so ridiculous people would either reject it right away or get the joke and move on. I was proven wrong almost immediately; you see, people of all walks - young, old, foreign, domestic, newly-courted and old mainstay staff members - they all were either provoked by Peggy's boldness or eager to know more about her.


And so they did. Peggy had a Skype.


As I drunkenly recorded snippet after snippet of my best pseudo-Russian accent last Sunday night (complete with a pitch-altering effect, to give off the impression I was a burly female) - I created a makeshift Sound Board. I could simply play canned replies to simple questions asked of me over Skype. If I didn't have a particular reply ready to plug into my microphone, I could just type out that I didn't know all the words in English.

The results were highly satisfying.

Although, as I began re-learning the game, so with it came the atmosphere. That dreadfully ... heavy atmosphere. It was hard to breathe in it. I was reminded that this always-expanding Meepcraft universe had only worsened since I last-interacted with it.

I faced a world wrought with a cacophony of vengeful, greedy, cowardly, long-winded illiterate narcissists.

In a word: children.

Children without their keepers.

You see, my modreqs went unanswered for sustained periods of time.

Blatant advertisers didn't always get the boot - neither did PVP loggers, thieves, or the like.

My point being the most simplistic issues of behavior, honor, and even gameplay mechanics went unaddressed for a disproportionate amount of time.

It was inefficiency on a level I had not seen before.

Peggy decided it was not a solution that was easily-remedied and opted to be nice and leave with a bang. Peggy was to host a drop-party; mostly low-to-mid level items as I'd only been around a week or so. I will admit that the haul would not have been huge.

WHAT SHOCKED ME WAS:

Despite my best attempts to muster some enthusiasm and interest, nobody showed up. My pleas of 'Come to Town X, I have free sto0f!' were met with other players' mindless focus on shouting about their own worries.

Even the game itself tried its best to drown me out, reminding me constantly that I should vote or donate.

You all had ignored my offer of guaranteed free items because you simply were not accustomed to the name-tag or the color I was wearing this time.

I wasn't shiny, obnoxious or pushy or red - and the game wasn't telling anybody to do it - so nobody thought it was worth their time.

Meepcraft has become lowest common denominator.

He isn't back. The whole post just detailed how appalled he was with Meep when he attempted to see how Meep was. You know there is a problem if Rosenow is appalled.
