Alt account suggestion.

What with the drama subsiding, Im looking at a rule that I personally think is pushing it slightly.

Copy pasted from the current rules -

• You may not transfer Meebles between accounts through any means; including town banks, gold blocks, and any other means.

While I agree with most contexts, this kind of ruins having an alt on meep. Some people like to keep some meebles separate, or have a second town on an alt, want to use an alt to manage some plot permissions differently in their towns, amoung other reasons.

My suggestion here is to have a staff-only list of alts. From this list, people are allowed to trade with their own alts. This means that staff have an extra job, which is checking up on them every so often, however this also makes it easier for staff to conveniently locate people who are actually abusing in one form or another. Plus there are plenty of staff so its not like they wont have the hands to do it.

Staff used to have an alt list when it was legal to buy and sell alts for the purpose of having a list so if alt123 was my account, then I sold it to player 123, I would not be accidentally banned for being an alt of alt123 when player123 broke the rules. In order to get on the new alt list, and be able to legally transfer money to/from your alt, you would have to update a staff member "hey my alt is alt123." Staff can also find out whos alt is who a number of ways c':

I propose bringing the list back for the purpose of people being able to legitimately transfer their own, legal, meebles to themselves.

Sorry if this doesn't make much sense or goes back in forth, I'm currently in outer space, but I think my point is clearish and I'll answer questions.

I just realized how that line looks. I believe the intent was that you cannot have shared account with an alt if you are doing activities you would only be allowed to do once per time limit (ex. Voting, parkour, etc). I don’t see an issue with interacting with your own alt as long as you aren’t abusing the fact you have two accounts.

 

Additionally, (mod+ I believe) have IP check, so we can tell who has what alts as long as a player isn’t using a vpn

I brought the wording up to other staff members and provided my own rewording that clarifies that you can use an alternate account freely so long as you aren’t completing one-time per-account achievements on multiple accounts.

(And yeah, helpers can check IP’s through prism, although the simple way to ipcheck is a mod+ thing)

 

yes but they don't say if the player is an alt nor who the alt is. which kind of defeats the purpose of alt checking unless you are trying to bust ban evaders. Like if I ask if some account is an alt, I'm not asking for their ip address I'm asking for a Yes or No.

 

If your IP is the same, you are an alt until proven otherwise.

 

It’s true that we can see player IPs and information, but having a list makes it easy to ensure legal use of alts. If we could control and monitor that without any additional system, why is it still illegal?

Why need 2 accounts on Meep in the first place? Having multiple accounts, under similar names, is almost always used to gain an unfair advantage, so why allow it further? Alt abuse has killed the server's economy, makes bans 30x more complicated, and confuses people in-game. Nobody needs to own 3 towns, or be staff in more than one. (I know a lot of people who would have an alt staff in another town and steal from it, super easy, 10/10).

Everyone with an alt is gonna -1 me, but trust me, alt-free Meep would be far better.

(and before you say "think of all the donations from alts!" remember how money came into the hornemans situation)

 

bc people have been using alts for years and trust me, banning alts altogether will not solve anything. as in probably 1 or 2 people would stop playing their alts lol.

 

purchasing towns would become a lot harder if alts were banned.

 

Which is good! There's already discussion surrounding increasing the cost to create a town.

well it's like being banned right? it makes it harder and less convenient.
(people have also been building ""phallic structures"" in creative for years, but that's also not something we like folks to do)

 

Difference being, phallic structures are stupid and inappropriate for a kids game, and having an alt causes little to no harm, provided you follow rules.
+ no staff will want to do that.

As I said to staff, the rules were fine how they were and did not need re adjusting in regards to alts, the rule a previous player was unbanned for was already on the rule page which left no confusion to what rule was broken.

 

I am no longer in outer space and my suggestion is kind of dumb.
They just need to be reverted to how they were. The additional rules are silly and honestly it did not need any clarification unless the person reading it was a moron. (Funny how that worked out.)

I was going to quote everyone individually but then decided, I have done this before and you all don't learn anyways. So I will just make the only statement that matters to cover everyone at the same time.

1. The "rule" that causes this whole problem = "You may not gain any kind of advantage over other players through the use of alternate accounts."

2. The "bottom line" of this rule = "ALTS PERIOD are an unfair advantage over those that don't have one."

Quick all the people on these forums (including staff) ban yourselves because you all have ALTS!
