Its important to help these people, but its also important to help kids who's families don't value education. Fixing public schools is way more important than private school vouchers. If your family has screwed up values, you will just perpetuate poverty.

No, but I was just pointing out the fact that subsidization of private entities is already being done. It doesn't necessarily make it right per se, but subsidizing private education definitely wouldn't be completely unprecedented.

You can also expel students from public schools for disciplinary violations; granted, there's a little more red tape involved as public school expulsions usually involve a meeting with the school board, but still.

Fair enough, but the teachers and learning environments are better as well.

Yes, but public schools for the most part could also have smaller class sizes if they didn't waste so much money.

Yes public schools are badly in need of reform, but why are we penalizing kids whose family's values aren't screwed up?

We shouldn't penalize kids who's family values aren't messed up, but devoting time and resources to saving a select few is a waste, and its harming the plebs.

We all don't need different learning skills.
    Math
    Basic science
    Reading
    Writing
    English
    And common sense.

It is a proven fact children who go to private/charter schools learn better than those in public schools.

I can give you facts that prove otherwise. In order to properly compare the private v. public schools you need to adjust for demographic differences between the groups of students, which many studies are not doing.

In this study researchers find that public schools perform better than private schools once you account for the social and economic differences amongst the schools participants.

Can you look up New Orleans? Once they went to a private/charter school the testing scores went up, grades went up.

I seriously need more detail. I googled "New Orleans" and nothing came up about schools.

Did you even read my quote? It's a fact based research article, you haven't linked anything crediting your reasoning, and you're not addressing the points made. Public schools have been out performing private schools. I really find this part interesting:

"Finally, the Lubienskis used their longitudinal data to find that public school students started kindergarten with lower math achievement than demographically similar private school peers. By the time they reached the 5th grade, however, they were outperforming those same peers in the subject."

You stated that private schools "learn better" but the data proves otherwise.

Its very subjective, private schools vary depending on which one it is. Public schools vary less, but there still individual.

True. It can, and probably will to some extent happen.
True, but you have to do something much worse, as they're reluctant to kick you out because then there's really nowhere for you to go. At a private school, they can expel you for just about any reason.
Because they are attracted to the better students. This happens at charter schools as well (I used to go to a private school, and now I go to a charter school, after being homeschooled for a period). I've talked to the teachers, and basically every one of them says they only accept the lower pay because they love the students, and hated it at the public schools they've taught at.
    Basically.

To get back to the minimum wage topic, can it reasonably be assumed that adults working minimum wage should be? Minimum wage jobs are for teenagers, they are unskilled labor, its not hard to not be poor. As long as you finish high school, have a full time job, and don't have kids until your married, you have something like a 4% chance to be poor, and a 80% chance that you will be earning more than 55,000$ (This is all according to the Brookings institute, which is a lefty organization).
(Characteristics of minimum wage workers, 2015 : BLS Reports: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics) The bureau of labor statistics found "Minimum wage workers tend to be young. Although workers under age 25 represented only about one-fifth of hourly paid workers, they made up about half of those paid the federal minimum wage or less." and only something like 870,000 people earned the minimum wage, so not that many adults are actually working minimum wage full time, and it seems like those that are did it to themselves. If you drop out of high school, its a stupid decision and you will earn less. If you chose to drop out of high school, don't complain about having a hard time living off 7.25$ an hour because you doomed yourself to be poor.

Bottom line is minimum wage is just the MINIMUM someone can pay you. It's not a set wage, it's not the wage you'll make forever. Why should a company be forced to pay the donut maker $15 an hour? YOU WONT MAKE THIS FOREVER!

Yes, you (hopefully) won't. But, during the time you are making minimum wage, you should be able to take care of all your necessary finances. As Metr0 and Deljiko outlined somewhere above, you can't with the current minimum wage, and a single accident can leave you in lots of trouble.

I went through it and they had things placed in the order that should have been laid out differently. Like college before groceries. College, wifi, smart phone and stuff should be LAST!

I really hope he does, because I have already lost what he has been trying to say since his third post.

Exactly Qazini, it isn't enough for a safe amount of finance if something goes wrong.

What was your point in this sentence? It doesn't make sense.

It has been shown that a higher minimum wage has actually increased personal happiness. As well as to be provided with a good wage for the start of their workforce. And don't say it doesn't mean to be that high or its for the basic crap we need in life, I am sick of seeing you still repeating yourself every second post. It can not cover any form of unpaid leave or any assistance in a time of problems.

Well to be perfectly honest the minimum wage in the states count towards a screw up. And once again, doesn't assist if something happens.

Marlin you quite clearly never went to a Sex Ed class. Nothing you do can 100% stop you from being/become pregnant. You can become close to 100%, but nothing can stop you from pregnancy. And are you saying that if you are not pregnant they aren't already pregnant? There is such thing as periods you know.

    I second that Black.

This is a problem if you ban abortions, then they are forced to have the child and lead to bigger problems. I know that's a different subject, but it can be a factor to Minimum wage problems.

I agree. It's okay to be offended with things people say, but in return the person must understand and ensure that what they say isn't hurting other people's feelings.

No there should be no reason why it can't be adjusted every year. I think we do that in Australia and its better because of it.

Say that to the thousands of waiters and waitresses that aren't even paid a minimum wage. Aren't they paid by tips? Still we know in Australia its fair for them to at least be on the base pay of the minimum wage as well.

That fact that you said peasant, makes me believe you are someone who was reincarnated from the 16th century. But that's good, because they must also know the struggle of not being payed fair. Why should there be tax cuts to the rich, when they already have enough money as it is?

That sucks so much. Pretty much all 3 of those things your store does is in fact illegal in Australia. It's illegal to work and not get paid, Overtime must be allowed or is also illegal, and companies cannot reduce your hours either, that is another thing that's illegal. You deserve so much better.

Obviously, if you get payed a ton for un-skilled labor, your gonna be pretty smug with yourself.

If you don't want a child, don't have unprotected sex, if you don't wanna be poor, finish high school, get a full time job, and don't have kids until you get married. I hesitate to go down the Rush Limbaugh path of blaming poor people to be poor, but its not hard to be responsible.

I agree with you, they should make companies pay the minimum wage, remove the tips rule.

If you are an adult working minimum wage jobs full time, you screwed up your own life somewhere along the line. If you have any sort of skill or commitment, you can get a full time job.

Read my bureau of labor statistics. only 870,000 earn minimum wage, and about half of them are teenagers. Theres only close to 435,000 Americans working minimum wage full time.

Wow almost half a million people adults being paid so little wage. This is why you should add Australia's under 21 minimum wage on top of higher wage increase. You get paid the portion of an adult wage, this means you don't have to have such high salary for younger people. This would also teach us in our state of mind, how lucky we are to be paid fairly.

That's right, they earn it to be paid, plus they can still make a tip as easy as that, so more money for them. This would help them a lot.

Yes by all means you can sustain not having kids until you're ready (that is if you use the methods of preventions), and yes I agree poor people must put some effort into earning a living (and no Marlin its not only because they are "lazy" like you've repeated for almost the 13th time).

Well yes and no, its good because you can afford a lot of things, but there is that one problem of a particular product that is so expensive that is hard to pay. An example is overseas shipping, sometimes the price is double or even triple what its cost (of the product is) to be sent here. It's ridiculous, but still better than nothing.

out of three hundred twenty million, yah, half a million, not a big deal.
If your an adult working a minimum wage job full time, the answer is get a better job, not get better pay.
