Spawn eggs

So
I thought I'd make this display of spawn eggs to show off how cool I was and stuff
And you can't put spawn eggs in item frames!!11!1one!!
It's a sad sad day.
You just can't put them in.

Does it spawn the animal? Have you tried holding shift (or your crouch button) when placing it?

 

No, yes and that does nothing.
