    Who Am I

You may have passed me in the store,

Called me to just say ‘Hi’

I may be your Sister, Daughter,

    Wife, Aunt or Mother.

    I maybe a coworker, a teacher,

Or a stranger you just walked past.

    I take responsibility for myself,

My actions, and even what I say.

    I am a store clerk,

    Child care provider, a Manager,

    Doctor or CEO.

I am the person who could not

    Believe that others didn’t or

    Wouldn’t care about things.

I stood Silently by as my Country

Was slowly torn apart by people

Who cared nothing for anyone else.

I Silently watched as our leaders,

    Our elected representatives,

    Ignored us and made decisions

    Based on what they thought

    Would get them re-elected.

    I Silently told myself that

    It was a mistake,

The people I trusted to make

    My Country better could not

    Betray those who they represented.

    I Silently listened and hoped

    That those in my government

Would realize that what was happening

    And being done was wrong.

I Silently watched as companies were

Force by laws to hire workers who

Didn’t care to learn the job,

Or even wanted to be there.

    I Silently prayed that something

Would be done to make things

    Right again.

    I stood Silently and watched

As my beliefs of what is right or wrong,

Was slowly ground down to nothing.

I Silently cried that people could

Not seem to even get along.

People would lie, steal, hurt each other

And then deny that what they did was wrong.

I stood Silently by as things got worse

Day by day, if someone did something

Or caused something bad, they would

Not admit they were in the wrong,

They would blame it on anything

    Or anyone, take no responsibility.

    I got Silently angry

I was being told that what was being

    Done was good for us.

It would be good for everyone,

But it wasn’t good for anyone.

    So I Silently thought

    That it was maybe time

    To let my government know

That I was tired of being walked on.

So if things are not going the way

You want, if I expect you to live

By the rules you impose on me.

    Remember that there are

    A great number of people

    Who work hard and take

    Responsibility for their actions.

They are tired of being walked on

    Looked down at, ignored.

    I am but one part,

    Of a great movement

That is starting to be heard.

I am a member of the

    Silent Majority.

If you want to fix America good luck,

    There is no hope.

Nice poem! The one issue is that people won't read the whole thing because of short attention spans... What is the debate specifically about? Is it "whether people feel that government representatives accurately represent the decisions the people they represent feel they should?"

It is mostly a statement, but it is also a debate of whether others feel the same way? That we are not being heard, or are being ignored by the government.

It is also where CluelessKlutz said to put it.

Your being ignored by your government because of lobbyists. Public opinion has virtually nothing to do with American policy.
