Should there be a war between North Korea and America?

The US secretary of state says they want to enter talks with NK to give up NK's nuclear weapons programme. (Source)
- My opinion: if NK can't have nuclear weapons, then neither should any of the other countries, including the US.

There's been a lot of name calling and really grand threats by each side, and there have been countries (Russia, China, Japan) who are saying basically that US and NK are wack for threatening war. (Source)
- My opinion: Yea both leaders are idiots.

What do you think? Yes, no, or is it just a distraction from something bigger?

 

We shouldn't go into another warzone. As a means of last resort we should give other countries money to deal with the problem. South Korea or other countries in the region have an incentive to not leave a massive power vacuum, the US is so far removed that once the immediate threat is squashed I have no faith they will stick around to do any effective rebuilding. The humanitarian consequences should be considered, who will take care of the North Korean peasants if we destabilize the country? We don't need more third world refugees coming too our country because we blew up all of the infrastructure in theirs.

Ideally no countries should have nuclear weapons, but their is a marked difference between a rouge nation with a literal nut as a leader having nuclear weapons and established world powers having nuclear weapons.

Donald Trump tweets mean things, Kim Jong Un executes people with anti aircraft guns and keeps child sex slaves at his various residences across North Korea. They are not comparable at all.

So if we go to war, we're basically free candy. Welp, hope my ancestors are nice!

a war with north korea would just mean a lot of people dead in california and that part of the united states,
not justifying the fact that radiation would be carried by winds across the united states and making the US a real life fallout

Unfortuently if there was a war Australia would be dragged into it by assisting the Americans, if it wasn't for that I wouldn't care about what goes on.

I'm a bit out of the loop of what has happened lately since I zoned away from the news because it's only been about them two and terrorist attacks but it won't suprise me if they are both just chatting shit and nothing will happen. Don't see NK giving up nuclear weapons because America says so, that's one of the key reasons as to why they are using them, to compete military power.

 

Pretty much the best argument in favor of war made so far.

 

Their nukes can barely even hit Alaska, in which case they'd target Anchorage (absolutely pointless), or what they'll actually do is target a military base in Hawaii. Sure, that'll kill a few people, but in general it's nothing to fret about in comparison to what's going to happen to North Korean in retaliation for that.

That's being generous; they barely were able to produce something with enough range to hit Guam earlier this year. They are going to be working on it and eventually gain the capability to hit most of North America, but for now they don't have the range, and if they actually try anything even after they do, it's not gonna end well for them unless they have hidden allies or something along those lines.

 

From what NK is demonstrating, their nukes can in fact reach much farther than Alaska. Even if they don't right now, they certainly will in the near future. Kim Jong Un is a ruthless dictator who puts his military power before the health and safety of his citizens. He is starving his nation for the sake of power.

Did they even try to hit Guam? From my understanding, they could have if they wanted to but decided against it (for whatever reason).


I'm sure Kim Jong Un knows that if he attacks the United States his country is going to be taken off the face of the planet. Problem is, if North Korea gets to the point of collapsing with no hope of recovering, he'd essentially have nothing to lose. What's stopping him from doing an all out attack? I feel like he'd rather go out with a bang than sit back and let everything he has disappear.

If NK attacks the US, China almost has to step in, since their economy basically relies on us to exist. Economically, NK is ****ed
