Make a policy where all players with innapropriate names will be banned and have a chance to rename themselves, and get their belongings moved to the new account?

 

Honestly i might change my alt to something along the lines of

Flamedemond4
Unlucky_onis
Or some other clever name lol

Mojang said they've never thought about charging for changing usernames, just having a delay.

 

I believe a lot of this is incorrect.

Your first bullet point:

• Meebles, I believe, is handled by Essentials' economy, and I haven't seen it yet but I know they will convert player usernames into UUIDs so name changing won't be a problem for economy.
• Items are handled by the player data in the world data folder and the 1.8 release of Bukkit (and Spigot) automatically convert the player data into UUIDs (new folder) when the server first starts up. It also does this for banned-players.txt, banned-ips.txt, ops.txt and whitelist.txt.
• Towns is a pretty big plugin. If the developers are still active, surely they'd convert player names into UUIDs.
• Hiscores? Highscores.

Your second bullet point:

• If MeepCraft is using PermissionsEx, PermissionsEx have already release a new version that converts player names into UUIDs using a command (see changelog for Pex) therefore keeping donator (and all other) ranks.
• If MeepCraft is using GroupManager, Essentials is one of the top 5 plugins, so they will probably update it too.

That is correct, but not in terms of plugins, in terms of inventories. The plugins were coded using player names and not unique IDs.

 

Pretty much any plugin that requires storing players into files does, yes. Commands like /kill <player> won't need updating though.

It was a co-incidence I read this today as this morning, just before, I was researching the unique ID system for more than 4 hours.

 

So if somehow I change my name to Sirrr_pig I get the rank admin?

Heh =P I actually did this research for a private plugin for another server, but at least now we can implement this into MeepCraft!

Oh cool is this like your job or just a hobby?

 

Both Started as a hobby, then I made public plugins which ended up as a job as people sent requests.

Yeah. But I think Meep is using lilypad (go to lilypadmc.org and you will know what I mean), but it's creator will probably do it.
Also does Meep use Essentials economy? From what I've seen its reasonably basic.
