G'day everyone, I think I have a clue on what I worked on a few minutes ago.
Basically I was gazing through trello when I seen https://trello.com/c/5R9sqjaP/756-wild-additions

One of the additions on the card is having the compass tell you how far away the closest player is you but the problem is that the compass currently points to the supply drop.

    Idea 1
With the new item it will replicate (not replace) the compass but instead of pointing to the supply drop it will point to the closest player, cooldown of 10-20 seconds to use the right click.
    Idea 2
Make it point to the closest moving player and will tell you how far they are when you right click, cooldown of 10 seconds to use the right click.

Obtaining this item I think it should be purchasable from the shop.

Personally I am not a huge fan of custom items but I thought to suggest it you all to make this wild addition possible.

If having it craftable I suggest for it to be emeralds because of the classic UAV green and either have the center piece as a compass or redstone.

The one that point to players would be cool, It would actually add some level of interaction to the wild and stuff.

I'm not too sure, may have it point towards the closest moving player so if you think someone is getting close you can stop moving or create something to counter it. Would you have any suggestions for it or are you not a fan of the item?

I'm not entirely sure what I think of this. I think it'd be really fun for a lot of people, but I am concerned how much it will affect new players. Allow me to describe a scene I envision if this were added:

New player joins the server, gets through tutorial, and is told they can get stuff for free in the Wild. So into the wild they go, with their leather armor and wooden tools. As they are chopping down a tree, some really good pvper with this compass jumps out in their max armor, and hits them twice with their sharpness V sword.

Why should the new player stay on the server? If say, I, die in Wild, I can just go home and get another set of armor, no big deal. If a brand new player dies, they've lost literally everything. And if they can avoid it by staying still, any noob isn't going to know that, so it'd be heavily abused by older players. Fact is, when people die, they always rage a little. A new player has no attachment to the server yet, so why stay when they have nothing left?

This is a cool idea but wasn't this the reason why the mini map was banned? Some players want to be left alone. Would this be in every world?
Towards the closets moving player would be the best option. This is so if a player is afk, they don't get shown on the map for everyone to just go and kill.
I will give a +1 but I think it should be a slight bit more expensive because it is a tool to literally show where the players in the world are, most likely used to kill them.

The minimap was banned because It showed mobs at depth, so if you saw a large cluster of mobs you knew there was most likely a dungeon there, letting you essentially x-ray.

The wild is for gathering resources. If you want to kill people go to the terrium.
This would make tp killing useless in a way. Why lure someone when you can legally find something that will lead you straight towards them?
Supply drops would be like hunger games.
A lot of people would be really frustrated by this. Yay diamonds says a noob (me) then next thing you know a legend comes in with god gear and kills them. I'd be upset.
    -1
Edit: I still think pvp logging in wild should be legal

If you can only may it point to other players who have the player finding compass currently in their inventory +1
Otherwise -1 I don't want to have to constantly look around, I don't think many other players want to be killed when all they want is some grass or some wood

they already are, and its fun.

Addressing the rest of your points, its really not hard to type /home when you see a nametag, or just log out for a few minutes if you are really so scared. Being able to hunt down players in the wild would probably get more people going into the wild for just that purpose, leading them to find each other also, as they will both be likely trying to get to each other or the same person, and If I had to chose between fighting a nub and getting like, 4 logs or fighting a bigger nub and getting god gear and likely more valuable things, I would ignore the nub and focus on the bigger nub.

This would help the eco with inflation, as materials would likely start being sold for more with players venturing out into the wild less and less to find the materials, which is good. I played on a server with a thing like this (It gave the exact cords of the nearest player with a command called /nearfind) and it honestly wasn't that bad, the wild is a BIG place, so the chance of you being locked onto anyway is low, and even then, what If another player comes nearer to the hunters? etc etc etc.

If this gets added, you should totally get 1k in the hunter job for killing a player.

I can totally see anyone that are known to have rare heads, most staff, lots of higher ranks, will be targeted quite often.
I don't want to have to check every 2 minutes to see if someone is close lol

Wtf? thats not what this describes, you would be at the same risk as any other player, the suggestion wasn't "find the nearest player whos head I can flip for profit" it was "find the nearest player." If you are the nearest player to a person, then hell yah there coming for you (probably), If you aren't, then good luck, it would affect everyone equally. Also, if your really afraid, buy a compass of your own, when you warp in, it will point to the nearest person, if that point rapidly changes, then it means that someone is heading your way, and you should disguise/run.

Thats another point, this would give disguises some functionality other than purely cosmetic, without breaking EULA. and could possibly encourage donations.

The thing is, This adds a level of interactivity to the wild, in the form of hunter and prey, a huge drawback to meep is that (if you can't manage to scrape together a minigame circle) Is that you have to do boring stuff (mining, lumber... ing?) before you can make any money, and in my (albeit un-knowledgeable) eyes is one of the main reasons many new players don't leave, However If they saw adds or heard people talking about hunting down other players, that gives an adrenaline rush of suspense, "am I going to be hunted by a donor" "What can I do to stop it" or "I hope the player Im hunting has bad gear" "This is such a fun way to make meebles" and maybe being hunted isn't fun for some people, but at least its not boring, and that is definitely (the sources are debatable however) the main reason players leave/quit, its boring. In addition, It would let average and even bad pvpers to pvp and make a decent amount of money, I play maybe 8 hours a day in the summer, and I pvped for 2 hours every day in kit, and made like, 40k by the end of the week. I can make that in 10 minutes by mining sand, the only other pvp outlet right now is the terrarium, were the only people who can stand a decent chance at making money there are people with god armor, and people who are good. This would let people who enjoy pvp, and want to make money from it do just that, from items and if this gets accepted I would suggest giving a 1k per player kill for the hunter job. If you make it just track the people who have the compass, its going to be a larger more time consuming terrarium, because the only people who are going to have it are good pvpers, and lil timmy who just started and has no idea what god armor is.

i usually go to wild for some peaceful mining. i'm not really a fan of this, but that's only because i'm lame and don't like to watch my back other than for mobs :p. i think that wild is more for gathering resources, and it is stated as that.

could this possibly be implemented into UHS? if it's not already in the process of being implemented, of course.
