Im suggesting that 5 minutes to a day mute be added as a form of punishment for people who are spamming or making some other offense that is chat related. This would be up to staff to decide how long of a mute it should be, but there should be a guideline. Like spamming could result in a mute between 5-180 minutes

    But why.
A kick is a solid warning.
    A ban says shut up.

    It works fine.

I have experienced kicks don't work, they come rig back and spam bad words. Possibly a mute gives them time to learn?

In my experience, there is no lesson needed. People, mostly, break the rules even though they are aware, making conscious decisions to break it. Regardless of your punishment, people will continue to do this. The question at hand is does the cost of driving players away make up for the gain of keeping a somewhat calm player atmosphere.

Mute them but don't let them know they are muted, stops them from immediately relogging in after a kick and basically wastes their time for a short while

Yes, this makes staff jobs easier +1

    Suggestions
Bad topic: 3-4 warnings, 1 kick, then if they still continue, 10 minute mute and topic should die. If it doesn't, longer mute. If the same person is inappropriate everyday, then a possible 1-2 week ban with careful consideration

Spam: 3-4 warnings, 1 kick, 10 minute mute

Caps: 3-4 warnings, 1 minute mute (has to be over x amount of letters)

    Toxic: as is

    Advertising: 1 warning, permanent mute

Or instead of muting you could hand out short bans, like 1 minute or 5 minutes, or even 10-30. Usually people who are just raging will probably go find something else to do rather than sitting and waiting to get back on and spam again.

i think the real problem is the inconsistency of warnings. this has been a problem for a year at least though and i don't expect it to be solved any time soon, even with rule re writes or whatever. y'all are talking about these warnings but the staff never actually enforce them so that's probably why this kid is making the suggestion in the first place

+1 Banning is too harsh a punishment for simple chat spam

They accomplish the same thing. No real reason to implement it as it doesn't solve a problem and it is more work to do.

Why do we even have warnings anymore. Just start kicking people for chat offenses, and they'll get the idea. If someone is deserving of a mute, a temp-ban works fine as well

I'll answer that question for ya :)

No one really cares if one person uses caps once or twice, or foolishly jokes around. However, we warn those people in front of others to let people know that it is not okay to spam, not funny to break chat rules. If we make that a temp ban or a kick, people will not be informed well and we will lose even more players.

Kicking is a warning. That's all it is. A kick. It's an annoyance and they wont continue it again. Kicks are so so much more effective than a "warning"
