    Just right: Case, Headset, Keyboard and OS.
    To change: Spend more on a CPU for this price range. The cooler is overkill, too much money, try Hyper 212 EVO. Thermal paste is too expensive, comes with your cooler. Motherboard should be in $100-150 unless you need the features this one has. You don't need 16GB of RAM, 8 is fine. 512GB isn't enough storage, SSD is too expensive, buy a hard drive to start out. If you're going to buy 2 of the same card, make sure it's the highest end card. 2 970s is much less practical than 1 980 or 980ti. 80+ Platinum and Modular isn't neccesary on a power supply. Get a cheaper corsair one. That sound card is a joke right? You don't need one. Also assuming network adapter is a joke, motherboard has an ethernet port. Wifi adapter is overpriced, get a USB one so you can move for best signal. Monitor is obviously overkill, I recommend a cheap AOC 1080p.

    If you're going dream build why not make it 980tis instead and get another 512 GB SSD and put the two in RAID 0?

    Hyper 212 EVO on a 6600k? What if he wants to do some overclocking? Some applications require more than 8 GB of RAM, it all depends on what the machine is being used for. Also, that wireless card is overpriced, but the benefit to having a fixed pci wireless card is that it frees up a valuable USB port and can usually be small enough to be barely noticeable compared to everything else in the case.

    I also wanted to add that he said this is a dream build, so alot of the overkill components are there to show what he is striving for in the future and are not a great value, like the ultrawide monitor and the sound card (pretty useless unless the motherboard has a crap audio chip or he is an audiophile who wants the least amount of interference going through the speakers/headphones).

    I'm confused about the wired network adapter though, the Maximum VIII already has a pretty decent built-in ethernet port, so the card would be pretty pointless.

    EDIT: I completely forgot to add that the thermal paste that comes with aftermarket coolers is usually low quality, so go with something like Arctic Silver 5, great somewhat inexpensive thermal paste that I use in all of my builds!

    Add a WD 1TB HD, 512GB isnt enough with all the big games coming out, seeing as GTA 5 itself takes up 60GB.
    This looks like a beast to overclock, might want to invest into water cooling, also if you do, you might need to upgrade your PSU
    Gigabyte 900 series > any other manufacturer.
    I'd recommend a benq monitor, in particular, this one : BenQ xl2730z
    You dont need a wired connection adapter and a sound card, the motherboard has those features.
    Other than that it looks fine.

    You're right about it being a dream build, what I meant was that sound cards aren't worth it. Check out this video from Tek Syndicate where they explain how an external DAC/AMP is much better for audio, and sound cards sound the same or worse than the motherboard sound.
