Custom chat color for Ultimate.

The title is self explanatory. Although I'm not Ultimate, I know many players that don't like the default color Orange being for their chat. It gets bland and boring, and a range of colors to pick from would be better.

A wider range of colors could be used for Ultimate, and a narrower for Supreme. It gives players a chance to pick the color that suits them.

Or, we could just enable the '&' thing for colored signs in global. Although, take away the bold, italics, underline, and strikethrough. That would be too much.

 

There are loads of threads on this, as you may or may not know, and they always get denied.
The problem is that a lot of the colors are not clearly visible because of their darkness, and a few others are used by staff. It would also be confusing if an ult chose the vip green or exclusive yellow, because then chat would get more confusing: you are used to having green vips and yellow exclusives, and now you have both colors being used by ults.
Also, I really like Meep's limited amount of chat colors, I think it's nice that there are only two rank chat colors. I think it would be nice if ults could choose to use supreme purple or the current chat color, as Muunkee talked about in recent threads, but this has also been deemed unnecessary in the past.

 

Oh look a suggestion on this that has many reasons for it, not many against it, but we still say no despite a lot of ults wanting it

This is hard to code because ults are one group of players and they have a specified chat color for that group. If we allow players to change their chat color, then the techs will have to make a system where it automatically moves you to a new group (for example, ultOrange to ultWhite) and it makes things just more ... complicated.

I mean, staff has more to work on (fixibg bugs, ctf, events etc) than chat colors. I personally love the white chat color of the citizen and I know you guys do too but that's what you guys get for not being a proud citizen

 

It could also be done manually with only a few commands upon request if admins werent lazy

 

Trust me, I'd love to see this kind of thing implemented. Personally, I dislike the Ultimate color, and have for a long time. Orange just isn't a very appealing color to a lot of people. However, the limits of plugins mean we can't just enable more colors. It's either all or nothing. There isn't a way to change the Ultimate chat color for certain people, and not for others. Allowing for color codes in chat would be an even worse idea. Imagine every other chat message being in rainbow colors. It just doesn't work, unless the entire color is changed.

Multiple ultimate "groups" can be made with the rank system and be able to be updated manually by admins.

So the suggestion is to be able to give maybe supers this permission to change a group upon an ult's request to change their own chat colors (cant change others for obvious reasons) or maybe some sort of command the ults can do to be able to change their group. I'm not sure how this would work with permissions.

But seeing as it would be as easy as creating and changing groups, which would be minimal effort at best, there's no goddamned reason not to other than "We dont want to."

Time and time again I must explain that Fuzzlr, and myself are like minded on this. We do not want rainbow chat as its ugly and looks like a 5 year old runs the server. Its chat color, Get over it.

 

well. maybe they could chose between purple and orange. but only once, right after they get ult (or right after the suggestion gets implemented)

You lose donations because of a stupid color. Some people don't donate to ult as the color change is awful.
I'll repeat this every time the suggestion comes up because honestly, I'd prefer $160 once in awhile over not having to do a couple commands

 

Admin finding it ugly sure seems like a better benefit than potential money for the server

The best argument for not implementing the color change is needing different Essentials groups to implement the various colors, and needing an admin to manually move users.

I don't think anyone is arguing to have a rainbow chat, they merely want to be able to switch to colors that we already have. The chat wouldn't look any different than it does now. Saying it will look ugly isn't a very good reason against the suggestion.

 

Except it really really does look bad. Minecraft's chat system is too simple to easily condense the current color scheme into an eye friendly and easily readable log.

When you begin adding in all sorts of colors on top of that it just adds to the issue, and eventually you have a chat bar that looks like a rainbow projectile vomited on it.

 

Personally, I don't like the idea of Supers having this ability, because it would have to be the same permissions given to allow for changing anyone's rank to basically anything, if you know what I mean.

From my understanding, it is suggested to only allow them to pick between the three current chat colors we already have.

 

Thing is you can always undo an error and demote someone if they were the dumb.
Or only allow the one group to be changed or you get demoted because youre the dumb. (Whether forcefully via permissions [no idea if thats possible] or just "dont do this dumby")
Or have an admin do it because they can, I just suggested super due to more activity
