A weird reflection that may or may not help

Today I was thinking and realized how big meepcraft used to be. One of the things I loved, was the economy. There were many meebles, the coin was cheap and you could see lots of businesses being created. Then I thought about the ways meepcraft got so much fame. One of those ways included youtubers playing on the server. What if we all comment and recommend youtubers to play in meep. Do it so much that meep gets attention and they play on the towny server we all know and love. This is hard and weird but LET'S DO IT!!!!!

This may not be the best idea, Nersaur. This would appear to an outsider as trolly, annoying, and bot-like. Or, even if none of those, this happening would be understood as a desperate server trying to ride on a youtuber's fame to promote itself, which is generally received poorly. This wouldn't, in all likeliness, encourage people to join the server. So, while I think promoting Meep is important, I'm pretty sure this tactic would backfire.

 

I don't understand why this would backfire. Having youtubers play on the server would benefit the player base.

 

u do understand that there is the possibility that their fanbase who dedicate themselves to whatever server the youtube player plays in, say techno with hy- yes could come to our server and trash about us and ad for said server

i kinda see it in a way similar to u just going to a server and advertising meep there

 

Thats illegal on almost every server.

 

Bad idea. Coming across as desperate and needy is never good. Not like a youtuber would play a random server for free anyway. You have to pay.

but its similar cause people like techno or tapl, just for a few, focus mainly on a specific server which most of their fanbase plays on
u start saying in their comments
"HEY COME PLAY MEEP AT BLAH BLAH BLAH WE'RE COOL" (when we really aren't cool except for grev)
and so many people from these servers that these you tubers play on will either
a) leave a hate reply, possibly multiple at once
b) go onto our server and either
1. trash/advertise
2. actually like our server
and then c) they'd probably do both

it just shows us as needy and desperate for players
and thats what some people do when they hop on another server and advertise for their own
cause they're needy and want people

 

We tried this before to try and promote boom0, can't you see the long lasting results?

 

Surprinsgly, I tried this on about five random different servers and I wasn't banned.

 

Surprisingly, doing this makes this server look bad.


It's not a good idea because youtubers cost thousands of dollars and they don't attract the type of players which MeepCraft needs, which are players of towny and skyblock to a lesser extent. Minigame players have never translated to rank purchases.

 

I don't think they cared enough to actually check out the server.

 

Still makes the server sound bad, since people are spamming ads on other servers

 

Advertising on other servers is a bannable offense if the staff of the other server have proof

Its also extremely inappropriate, walmart employees dont go to target and start shouting about how much target sucks walmart is amazing

You don't want them to advertise here. Why would you go hurt them?

Even if there wasnt a bannable offense, it encourages people tjat advertising is okay, this includes going on our server to advertise their own, and congrats, you could have lost us a player : D

This was ages and ages ago, I don't do this now. I've changed my attitude from those days when I wasn't thinking about my actions. I do realise in hindsight that this wasn't the best idea, but back then I wanted to help the server get more players. Now, I realise that this isn't the best way to do this.

 

Currwnt staff have done worse things its kind of a whatever now I guess


Onto the actual thread - if youre wanting YouTubers to go "oh hey like and subscribbley also check out meep yay whee" no one pays attention to that, it costs money, and its desperate as hell.


If you're wanting an actual video, like srql or whoever it was did a boomo video, and a many a people see that video, it costs a LOT of money, and it doesnt really increase volume. Youll see great player count for like a week, maybe 3 weeks if its a really famouser person, but itll die and we will have gained like 2 people if that

Like its a nice idea but we have no player retention, wr gain them, but we dont keep them, old players leave because they think the server is boring and nothing keeps them there, we gotta keep players and bring people who used to play back and make them want to play again

We dont need YouTube to do that, heh.

I understand that Fuzzlr got Prestonplayz to play here once and some other guy but it is very costly for the server. It's good to have publicity like that but ehhh like Muunkee said we have no player retention.

We should only be getting attention for being a really nice awesome amazing server (that we are) that has many players staying and playing, not leaving, and having fun. We shouldn't get attention for just spamming youtubers names to hopefully get their attention because that would lower our chances
