I'm not going to right an essay long thread about my suggestion for many reasons.

My suggestion is simple in nature and easy to comprehend. Perhaps towns that have been up for specific margins of time say; 6months, 1 year, 2 years etc should have some sort of discount.

Instead of these towns having 30k, 50k, even 80k+ daily upkeeps they should be given price cuts. How are towns that are flourishing, striving, beautiful in nature able to keep going with ridiculous daily upkeeps.

I know you can raise the taxes, but that's also how you loose residents too. No one will want to live in a town that has a 300 meeble daily tax. From an Architect's perspective it's also incredibly difficult to make anything that looks decent and have functionality without having to sacrifice 10 other plots in order to do so.

Please feel free to leave your comments and thoughts in a mature nature.

    This is interesting.
The current plot pice is 65 meebles per plot, per day. A 100 plot town costs 6500 meebles. 200 plots are 13000.
For 200 plots, it's only 13K a day, which is pretty manageable. You can earn 13K in 30 minutes easy.
You'd have to have 461 plots to get to a tax of 30K a day. By that time, your town should be pretty well flourishing. To break even there, 50 people can pay 600 meebles, 100 people can pay 300.

If you set your town tax to 150 and plot tax to 150, and all those 100 people have 1 plot, you can break even. 100 plots out of 461 should be easy enough to house.
Or, sell 2-plot plots, with plottax set at 100. Now they pay 350 a day, 200 plots out of 461. You get a 5K profit.

So long as you have a good amount of housing and lots of residents, your town should easily be able to thrive.
Plus, if you can manage to claim those 461 plots and spend 461K on plots, you should be financially stable enough to handle 30K a day.

(not to mention 30K isn't exactly hard to make. 30K in 30 mins is difficult sometimes, 30K in an hour is easy 90% of the time.)

all in all, I don't think it's needed. I've handled two 50K and 1 30K town at one time before - it isn't hard to make money if you manage your town appropriately.
Also, 300 meebles a day isn't really that high of a tax. Explain to your residents why the tax is there and how to pay it. Tell them to do /vote for a free 6K in a day. Some will leave, yes of course, but you'd be surprised how many people stay if you're nice and push them in the right direction.
I earned 70K yesterday from selling random crap I've hoarded to shops. People can make 200, 300K in a day in infected. Not to mention /jobs and /shop and /claim and /vote...

It isn't hard. Towny is the best and most efficient way for the economy to drain out a little.

-1. A tax of 150 can pay your towns upkeep just fine

/vote gives you 6K a day easy, that's almost half.
winning a few games in infected can get you the rest easy
As well as selling to shops at various /pwarp's (I go to Shops, Depot, E, Store, onestop)
    /jobs
    /shop
    /claim
It no hard. Just gotta work a bit.

Upkeep is how neglected towns fall, as they should. Manage your taxes, keep residency at stable levels, and prune unneeded land as necessary, and there's no real danger.

I bought a low-tax town of 20+ residents that was losing money, and I got it back to being revenue-neutral without raising taxes.

+1 I've had my town since the beginning so this may be biased as crap xD I've had my town also since meepnetworks a little before I believe (Of course it disappeared during the reset) But you get my point it's been here for a long time and it just keeps growing since I get so many residents building up since it's been here longer. +1 +1 +1 +1!

As the town owner of a very expansive and therefore creative town, this would be very helpful.

And I love how some of the -1's are from non-town owners.

I like how all the mayors of older towns are the only ones for it.

Full disclosure: My Alpha town is an older town, and I'm still against this. For one thing, it would be the end of Towny raiding.

I disagree that large towns need reduced prices. New towns need it more. I see a lot of new players that manage to save up to 200k and in a couple days their town falls and they, and the rest of their friends quit because they lost all their stuff.

I see that you have a good point. If you want some plots to look nice then it can be costly because you have to pay the upkeep of those plots even when no one lives on them.
-1 to this but I have a potentially better idea.

How about when you create a town the town spawn is a 3X3 plot area and It only costs the worth of 1 plot. I don't know much about outposts so I will leave that up to negotiation.

For the record. I was co-mayor of a town for almost a year. Also the most active of any of the town's staff. I know all about the town taxes and such. So don't say point out the fact that I, or anyone else "doesn't own a town, and therefore cannot know how taxes work" because you don't know their history in towny and just because they aren't a mayor now doesn't mean they don't have experience.

Your point was to call anyone who doesn't own a town inexperienced. And thus twas implied.

    Nope. Never said that.

My point was people who are not effected by this shouldn't have a say.

    Denied for several reasons.
    1) At this point, it's extremely difficult to make changes to the towny plugin.
    2) Accepting this suggestion would put an end to towny raiding.
    3) Towny upkeep plays a very important role in the economy as a money sink.

We do see where you're coming from, and your idea may be the basis for future implementations. Thanks for the suggestion!
