Denied ban appeal

Why we should consider your appeal: im not really sure how greasyfetus is inappropriate or offensive. there isnt anything sexual, violent, or suggestive about it at all.

 

So I may not have too much say in this... But if you ban a name like greasyfetus, you should have banned me "CaptainGooch".. and I was a super mod here.

 

One thing that has not changed since your staff days is that rule "Don't post on ban appeals if you have nothing to do with it." But, the aspect you have omitted, most likely intentionally, is that "Gooch" is your last name, at least according to you in shout. I highly doubt the same context applies to Mr. Greasyfetus here.


In all seriousness, we have always banned for names, and some names got exempted from that because they had donated, or had a past with the server in some major fashion. However, with name changing available, we will be subject to decide what is, or is not appropriate much more often, and we'll have greater incentive to do so because you can change your name freely.

Additionally, I half suspect that this name was chosen on purpose, perhaps to test the waters. That is exactly what is happening now. The line needs to be discussed between staff on what is appropriate, and one could certainly argue greasyfetus is not appropriate. However one can argue that the line should be at names that clearly "smack you in the face" offensive or over the line, and perhaps that definition does not apply here. Much like law and cases that set precedent on a wide scale, I'm sure this decision will set the precedence with us moving forward on names.

I hope you understand where we are coming from, and recognize that we haven't banned your main account because we are not trying to deny you access to the server, but that name might be something we don't necessarily want here. I will attempt to have the discussion on this as soon as possible and will update you.

 

Thanks Deinen. Fyi I wasn't trying to "test the waters" at all, that's just the username I use for a lot of other things besides Minecraft and haven't ever gotten a complaint as to it being offensive.

 

This is denied, with namechange being so easy, it's a decision of do we want a "Greasyfetus" here? And the answer to that is essentially no.
