Server hosts sporting events

With the end of the Super Bowl, and our dear friend Hornemans turning into salt, I had an idea. Why doesn't the server host sporting event intakes like hornemans did? I feel like it would be a fun, interactive thing to do with the server and spawns a lot of hype. I mean, shout was buzzing with excitement ( and of course, salt) for hours and hours. It could host the biggest sporting events, so for example, the Super Bowl, NBA finals, whatever the heck Hockey does at the end of the season, etc etc. Some might argue that this promotes gambling. The server already has gambling and is dominent in the community. There are people who dice away money all the time. It is virtual money, its harmless. I feel like this would add a lot of hype at times and be really fun. Make a limit for the amount of bets a single person can put in, take it from their funds when they make the bet, and once a winner is declared in real life, the server doubles the money of all those who bet and return em, while it takes those meebles from the losers out of the eco. Thoughts (besides it promoted gambling)?

I see two major issues with this.

1: What would happen if there was a team where people bet MILLIONS more than the people on the other side? If that team won, that would cause major inflation. Maybe add a limit to how many people can bet on each team and set prices?

2: Who would host this? I'm pretty sure the admins and most of the other major staff members will be with their friends when watching stuff like this.

I know a lot of people who hate sports, sports cause LOTS of dispute between people, and this will destroy the friendly community. Large -1.

I shall return! I am using this ascension beyond my "human" form to the purest "salt" of all time throughout the known and unknown universe as an opportunity to take advantage and gain vast amounts of knowledge so as I will be able to win 2x as much next year!

And Good idea but i agree it could cause way too much influx of meebles to come directly from the server. Also -1 cause what would i do next year if meep did it?

 

I don't really see this being used besides the Super Bowl to be honest.
If bets are being made, I like the player-made ones. More fun that way.

1) thats quite far fetched. Look at the last huge bet. Someone lost 32 million and he is still friendly. Like look at his comment on this, he is taking my joke in stride. The losers from the last super bowl bet are still the same. I don't see where ur getting this from and how this would destroy the friendly community more than dicing would.

you get to keep your money horne. Also a cap could be implemented to keep the size `of betting down. At the same time for large scale influx, there is a chance for large scale wiping. Its a gamble, and the server taking on max like 30-50mill isnt that bad. The server can handle that

Lol what? Do you know how many soccer lovers there are on this server? Also people would join at the chance to make money. Its a gamble. People would use it if they do or don't like a team because they want to play the odds.
You can find player more fun. thats fine, but I dont see how this is so different from player made ones. It isn't really. Its the same concept.

Same as horne's answer, max bet should solve this problem. Also, if the team lost, more meebles get wiped, so its a gamble. I think only seeing one side and saying it could cause a large influx of meebles is unfair because the opposite is true.

To your second point, It would be set up days in advance. We know who plays in a big game like that atleast a week in advance.

How does that make any sense? Like really though? Why is there meebles? meebles aren't minecraft related because a form of currency wasn't implemented into vanilla minecraft.

+1 why not? It'd be a lot of fun for the community I think. I mean they're big sporting events going on all year round pretty much. Would there be like a mini bet on specific games? Or just like final games of the season?

a list could be made of which major sporting events. it would mostly be finals. For example, World cup finals(ik its every 4 years im jsin), nba finals, superbowl, Stanley Cup, etc.

 

Setting up the World Cup would be fun betting on seperate games and stuff, Maybe the Olympics too :O

I think this idea is very interesting. It spawns bad blood as well as hype, but I think it was extremely exciting for everyone when the SuperBowl happens, and it really draws the community together, which is what MeepCraft is made for. Moving to Under Consideration, thanks for the Suggestion!
