Make Chat Easier to Read for New Players / Reduce Chat Spam

So without getting into to much details its pretty simple.
Problem: Everyone talking up NONSENSE in /g that does not need to be SPAMMING up the screen for all the New Players to see (yes this includs people SPAMMING ads for /pwarps).

Reason: Onis just fixed the /nc and /tc to be corss-server and then of course there is the /w chat which is for each server, then of course /l chat, and lastly lets not forget /msg. So why does everyone still SPAM the heck out of /g?

Solution: Implement the "cool-down timer" that was talked about so long ago! Again /g should be for announcements not fighting or personal conversations so a 1 Minute Timer should be fair (of course staff would be immune to this, but should not abuse the privilege).

Other: I guarantee 100% New Players are mesmerized by all the chat and can't read a thing, nor get help and respond as need cause they also might now know how to type fast yet. I know this has been talked about many times and Fuzzlr was against it for "community" reasons or whatever but with all the new chat options /g should ONLY be reserved for "IMPORTANT' statements or people wanting to "ANNOUNCE" something. It should not be used for never ending "Personal Conversation" NONSENSE that 100% of the new players don't care about. If its "community representation" that is the problem the New Player will be able to "easy" into the chat, and not be flooded with it to the point they miss important stuff or /msg or whatever .

New Commands:

• /gtoggle # Toggles global chat
• /ignore <name> # Ignores another player. You will never see any of their messages. You can not ignore staff.

 

+1 but I think the cool down should be something like 10 seconds or so. 1 minute is just a bit too much.

 

With all the New Options for chat, 1 Minute is perfectly fine, anything less is pointless.

 

-1, /g conversations between players are one of Meep's most special qualities, and one of the reasons I stayed.

 

-1 What sets meepcraft apart from other servers is the community. Maybe it should be changed so there is a toggle for global and it starts as off for new players? I'm not sure what new players are missing that's blocked by people using global though. If anything really important needs to be announced an admin will use broadcast.

If there's a conversation going on, it would be a very long one. Also, if a newb is asking something in the middle of it, the answer would be very delayed.

I actually agree with Hornemans on this one. Community is not just about a couple people spamming chatting in /g, it's about helping new players, getting them involved in Towns and Nations, and the best way to do that is to get people to use the Town and Nation chats. Limiting posts to /g to once a minute will help with that. If new players ask for help in /g, you can /msg them to start a conversation, or go to their location and use /l to chat.

-1 conversations in /g are one of the things that make Meep so original. It is nice when a drifter sees people talking in /g because they know they will get involved someday. If arguments happen staff will sort it out in an appropriate manner.

 

+/- I really don't know how I feel on this. But the cool down time is way to long just throwing that out there.

 

I think that /g or /shout is where everyone gets to know each other. Everyone can join the conversation in /g. It's where a player's popularity is determined. I agree with Fuzzlr, but I see where you're going with this.

Also the idea is terrible. waiting 1 minute between messages for all players so we eliminate spam? we have an anti-spam plugin designed for this, so why punish people striking up a conversation? Also the point of /g is to have a cross server chat, not for advertisements for capitalistic towns. Plus, don't think i don't know your motives horne, you want to clear the chat out of /g so you and your alts can advertise your town and businesses to capitalize on new players, not trying to "clear nonsense". Honestly this makes me sick.
