Introduction:

I've always had a hard time writing introductions especially about myself, however I'll do my best.

Trying to find the words to write a proper introduction I find my self stuck going in circles asking myself questions like; "How do I start? Do I tell them about real life? About my gaming history? Staff experience? Minecraft experience?" If this ends up rambling and jumbled please forgive me as I'll be writing what ever comes to mind without thought lest I waste a day sitting here thinking.

My given name is Ikaikakealoha Honda, you can Google me if you want. You'll find quite a bit about me and my political views on Facebook. Since everybody is going to wonder or at some point ask me "What does your name mean?" My name translates directly to "Strong love" which is somewhat true about me, I'm a big teddy bear... with a temper.

I've been "playing" Minecraft since Beta 1.7. I say "playing" because I've only recently actually started playing the game as a player. When I joined a server back in the beta days I was quickly promoted to technical staff due to my skills and experience with *nix as a Systems Administrator. This may sound like I know Java but I don't I looked into learning it however I don't have the time nor care to learn yet another language that I'll never really enjoy.

After leaving that server due to conflicts with the in-game staff I worked as a consultant for another large server at the time while working as an Admin on a friend's server. After a while I got bored with Minecraft and started playing some other games, Guild Wars 2 mostly and a bit of LoL. I got back into Minecraft rather abruptly when a friend came to me looking for a good host for his server as his current host was running on a pizza box in his mothers basement. I've been hosting MC servers since.

I found Meepcraft by chance one day while I was looking for something to do. I started out slow a total newb. I never played without op or gamemode in my life. Eventually I got into the community, started talking to people posting a bit on the forum, I even got on TS which is when the server really got interesting for me. I met some great people and have a great time every night.

In real life my job title is "Technology Specialist" which is a fancy way of saying "IT guy that does anything." I consider my primary job to be Customer Service it is my goal to help customers and remedy their technology pains, emails not working, computer keeps beeping or the ever popular "ITS NOT WORKING FIX IT OR YOU'RE FIRED!" What does that mean? I'm good at working with people angry people, happy people, sad or mad people I deal with them all on a daily basis.

Why you should be Helper/Mod/Supermod?

I know you're look for experience in this section however I briefly touched on it in my introduction so I won't be including it here.

There isn't any reason I SHOULD be a Helper. I could say it's because I'm some amazing super genius with a heaping pile of experience and that I want to help save the world but that seems superfluous, instead I'll be totally honest. I have no great idea, no grand plan, no divine path that requires me to be a Helper. I simply want to help. I had said I didn't want to be staff I just want to have fun and play the game and it's true I want to have fun and play the game but being a helper wouldn't hinder that.

Last night I was asked for help by a player something that should have been a modreq and even though neither my self nor the staff could help this player it reminded me of how much fun I had working as an Admin, helping players, answering questions. All things I can do now as just another player to a certain extent. People are wary of non-staff members especially in Skyblock where PvP is always enabled. Being staff, even if only a Helper, brings with it a certain amount of trust among the community.


Weaknesses:

Rather than continuing in the paragraph format I've been using I'll be switching to an itemized list for this section.

• Lack of forum activity - I tend to only post on topics or threads that I find of interest or I have pertinent information to add to it which means I don't have many forum posts
• Language - I grew up in a family that swore a lot . I do have a problem with swearing very, very often. I can control this in chat because I have a chance to stop and edit what I'm saying before submitting however on TS I don't have this opportunity, but I'm working on it.
• Anger - Remember that temper I mentioned earlier? It's gotten better but if I'm in a bad mood or feeling unwell it gets worse
• Low participation in /shout - shout whips by so fast when the server is highly active I can't keep up, most people I play with are on TS so I haven't really tried to participate in shout.
• Work - I work a LOT during the week I have 15-20 hour days some times which means while I can be active most days I won't be able to be on some days, these are usually random and unknown until it happens.
• Spelling - I can't spell don't know why I just never could I got kicked out of class for spelling "knowingly" wrong.

These are some of the most obvious weaknesses I'm sure there are more I'm open to hear them and I'll gladly make an effort to remedy them.

Conclusion:

In summary I would like to be a Helper to do just that help. I have experience behind me as well as a wealth of knowledge and skills. There are challenges but challenges are meant to be overcome and there are challenges on all paths and in all things big and small. Thank you for taking the time to read this unexpectedly lengthy application.

Language is always a bad thing for a helper. If you could work on that, you'll be fine.

You need to be more active on the forums as well.

 

Language is always a work in progress I have to clean it up for work I still swear a LOT but its certainly a lot less than it was a year ago.

I understand about the forum activity there just aren't many threads I feel comfortable replying to without feeling like I'm spamming for post count.

 

Right now I am a +0 because I have seen you help in game a lot. However, I frown upon cursing and don't like my peers to use it.

Sjoe curses at his island. I think the server has gone too far with censorship. A 'dam' to keep water is now a swear, well you know what I mean.

The only reason as to why I am a +0 right now is because of the language. I did see you in game tonight not necessarily watching your language with certain players, but you were careful with it in TeamSpeak.

About the forum threads: If you can't find any forum threads you think you can add information to or continue the conversation in a positive fashion, then I suggest that you start a thread of your own. If you start a thread, it is a lot easier to continue the subject and reply to other people. Don't be afraid to start a thread.

You could always post a thread in Off Topic > Programming because you are an IT person.

+0.5 Your app was pretty long which shows that you won't be a lazy person and you will get stuff done if it's only a few senteces But then there is that fact of swearing...thats why you lost .5.

 

I will admit I called him a punk and told him that I would rip his face off, which I still completely plan on doing if I see him again. A head for a head.

I've considered posting there but that really is work talk and I play MC to get away from that. I'd much rather have a serious heated debate about national/global issues. Debate not fight.

You'd have never known about it if I didn't mention it. I mentioned it because it's something that is being worked on. I've only had a language offense in game once. Most are on TS because it's a lot harder to moderate speech as it comes out of my mouth than words on a page.

I'm sorry, but we don't need any more helpers that I have NO idea who they are. Try to shout more, I have seen you shout a couple times but not enough. Be more active on forums. You have only sent 64 messages. I liked your app though. So for now I'm going to -0.5

 

TBH I've no idea who you are either let alone most of the helpers I can tell you I'm more active on TS than majority of the other Helpers. I don't shout mostly because the conversations aren't appealing to me and when I do I get trolled I'd rather not try to have a serious conversation with people that have no interest in a serious conversation.

Hi snuffles,

Being an admin ≠ being a helper. You will receive a ton of modreqs like 'wat r mooples' which provokes a lot of frustration. Those players require an incredible amount of patience.

You also are a big player. Yes, you do still get to play sometimes, but you have to dedicate a lot of your time to staff and not to playing. If you're willing to give that up, then okay.

I'm a +0. I really am iffy about it at this point.

Well I must say that I am at a +1, LOTS of experience; that's huge, you a great person on TeamSpeak.
On the other side of my opinion however I must take 0.5 points from you, your temper most certainly needs fixing and soon if you are accepted; I have experienced it and I honesty was scared on the other side of the internet. The other complaint that I have with your application is that you are very new to Meepcraft. Granted this is not very significant but does posses some questions.

I must say, I liked the application, and I like your personality as I can see it so far. However I think the language can be an issue, and it's concerning. And I don't think you've been here that long. I think you have a metric crap ton of potential though. and I'd like to see what is coming from you in the future. -1
