In towny extreme, as far as I know, you lose 20% of your skulls when you get killed by another player. This encourages players to leave their money in the town bank. Some people do not have the option to leave their money in the town bank and this encourages them to make more single player towns to store their money in. I propose either a bank that players can access freely (separate from the town bank) or a max amount of skulls that can be lost on death.

I like this idea! Could replace /give or /pay or whatever it is, too.

I believe they want to move away from items that are worth money because of duping and things like that, which is why /warp bank got removed.

Otherwise this is actually a pretty good idea, right now depositing money is kind of a problem for people without towns.

this is never happening - no physical items to represent currency for duping concern reasons.

How about a bank that stores your money electronically that is located at the extreme spawn. Now that the warp is gone it would be harder to deposit your money adding to the extreme factor. There is even the possibility of remote depositing etc..

Here’s a solution. Make a limit to the amount of money that can be in a town bank. That way town staff members cannot abuse their ability to withdraw/deposit once that limit is reached. Maybe 300-500k? That is a very reasonable amount as it’s enough to keep your town afloat for a long time. If you don’t want a large portion of your skulls to be lost on death, lucky for you it’s an economy server. Spend your money before someone else claims it!

EDIT: looks like the devs of Towny Advanced beat me to the punch here and added a cap to town/nation banks. This is a good thing to read if you want any inspiration on Towny War features too. TownyAdvanced/Towny

Spend your money... on what exactly? There's no player -> player economy right now and there won't be with the current path the server is taking.

Spend it on items you need to build cool buildings or supplies for PvP. Do I need to explain how currency works? The server is only 2 months old. People are building the infrastructure (ice roads/rails/shops) to make this happen.

Part of the point of having a currency is that it has a higher velocity than just straight up trading items. But right now, meebles (skulls i guess) have no velocity since they essentially never trade hands between players, only between the player to the town. What's the point of having a currency that can't be spent as easy as the building materials themselves?

Also, 2 months is very slow to make the economy work when that's one of the main draws to the server. And there's still no guarantee it'll ever be built up in the lifespan of the server since people will quit if the economy isn't more fluent sooner or later.

If you want to talk about the velocity of money on a Minecraft server, then your complaints will apply to every economy/towny server because the only stuff you’ll buy from other players will be for your town and for PvP. Then those players will use that money to buy other things they need. So yeah, I guess we just realized that a Minecraft economy is much less exciting then a real one. And my point about the server being just 2 months old was a bit misleading as /warp extreme got removed very recently, so that’s why these roads between towns to buy/sell items haven’t been fully made yet.

This problem can be solved by creating a unique ID for every note. When the note is created, add its ID to the "existing_notes" table. When the note is redeemed, remove its ID from the "existing_notes" table. A note is only redeemable if its ID is in the "existing_notes" table. This way, even if I dupe a note worth 5 skulls with the ID of 3 and hold a total apparent note worth of 500 trillion skulls, I can only redeem one of these notes because they all have the same ID. You can also record instances where this check fails, and then catch people who tried and failed to dupe notes by redeeming an ID which was not on the "existing_notes" table.

    on creation:
    add UNIQUE note.id, note.value to EXISTING_NOTES
give player item with note.id and note.value

    on redemption:
if note.id is in the EXISTING_NOTES table
    • take the item from the player
    • deposit note.value in the player balance
if note.id is not in the EXISTING_NOTES table
    • the item is illegal, record this in a currencyLog.txt

This note thing provides the possibility of private banks (run by player or town). I think private banking should be encouraged over server wide systems

Eg: notes can be signed books with privately managed codes

    I could definitely implement this.

I already thought of a couple optimizations to make this kind of thing feasible. If done the wrong way, this kind of system could take up an inordinate amount of space, order of O(n^n). (especially the way you described the system)
