I think a symbolic "wall" of an effective border patrol would be more effective (also cheaper)

I don’t need to prove that it will be effective. We know it will work. We know illegal border crossings are a problem in America. A wall worked in Israel. It’s said that illegal border crossings from Mexico will drop roughly 80%. Honestly, we have no clue the exact number. It could be less, it could be more. An issue that I have, that I think many Americans share the same concern as well, is what’s going to happen when the next Democrat gets elected into office? A wall is the only thing a Democrat can’t immediatly get rid of. We’ve wasted a lot of money. Billions & billions (possibly trillions) under the Obama Presidency. We know how to fund the wall. We have the money for it. Why not build it? If it doesn’t work, I guess we will know, it’ll be something Republicans will never live down. But if it works, it’ll be one of if not the greatest thing any President has done for our wonderful country.

 

Except for that one time when a President helped end slavery..

Or that other time when a President made us a global superpower..

Or how about when a President got us through the Great Depression..

@Deljikho I wouldn’t say “a” President made America a global superpower. It took more than one. I would like to add that the “racist” Republican Party is the party that ended slavery & has been against racism for many many years now. But somehow Democrats have managed to take credit for it & blame Republicans for everything bad that’s happened in America.

When I said the wall would be one of the greatest things that a President has done for our wonderful country. I meant that as a whole. Securing our border. Protecting Americans (which includs legal immigrants). You see, immigration is the most important issue. If we don’t put our foot down on immigration we no longer have a country. All the great things other Presidents & people have done for our amazing country is slowly going to be destroyed if we don’t stop illegals & Democrats from destroying it. A wall is one big piece of immigration. People need to learn that we are indeed a country & have a right to protect it. So yes, many past Presidents have done great things, however, a wall would certainly be ONE of the greatest things a President has ever done for our wonderful country.

This can be easily dismantled with polling data, most Americans don't want a literal wall.
I'm pro-border security, but the facts as I understand them lead me to conclude a wall is an ineffective waste of money.

 

How many times do we have to poll? We elected Donald Trump as President. I think that’s enough evidence to prove that Americans really want a wall.

Most illegal immigrants fly here legally and just overstay their visa. Please explain how a wall will effectively combat this.

Allowing ICE to do their job will combat this scenario. Don’t act as if no one walks across the boarder. It’s a huge problem. A wall worked do other countries. And let me get back to your “claim” that “most” come to America via plane. That’s utterly untrue. Many do walk across the border.

Your invalid point on “a large amount of people who voted for him voted because he wasn’t Hillary”. I have some points to make to that.
1)That has nothing to do with anything. The fact is they still voted for him.
2)Besides the fact that that’s irrelevant & a claim that isn’t proven to be true. They voted for Trump over Hillary due to the issues, due to the fact that he was right on basically everything he was saying.
3)GOP picked him as our nominee. He skyrocketed in the polls, he was winning states fast. Americans love Trump!

Apparently polls don’t work in era of Trump. Hillary apparently had a 95% chance of winning, there was no chance Trump would win. And guess what?? He won! Approval ratings mean nothing to me.

 

Simple! You see, by building a wall, planes won't be able to get to america, effectively killing lots of people, immigrants or not.

Meeplord isn't "acting as if anyone is crossing the border," he is stating that most people in america illegally are people with expired visas.

I'm curious to see your proof that "many do walk across the border."

 

Principles and ideology aside the wall is just a dumb practical idea. The money would be better spent on a high-tech border securing project using such as infra-red drones / facial recognition software / etc.

We literally have the technology to field a fleet of small drones across a wide area and capture anyone who enters the country illegally.

 

So we can watch them cross the border?

Offering amnesty for a wall deal with democrats is a bad move for Trump. The mainstream civnat and alt right position on Trump has always been they would support him as long as he didn't offer amnesty.

 

Gosh I started to agree with you... then I read the middle part. It’s not “alt right” it’s American. Trumpians will support him for the most part, as long as he doesn’t grant amnesty. However, amnesty in exchange for a wall is a terrible deal & many people will hate Trump if he accepts it. Although, he did say he wouldn’t accept any deal that doesn’t include funding for a wall & Chuck Schumer doesn’t seem to want a wall.
