Community Involvement in the Planning of Special Events

In order to improve the upcoming Christmas event, an application system will be implemented so that the non-staff part of the community may partake in the planning of the event. The purpose of the application is to get outside voices and minds engaged in the designing and building of the following event, rather than reserving the project for staff members only. The chosen player(s) represent(s) ideas of the community.

@CluelessKlutz proposed that players should make suggestions on the forum. I pointed out that this would create a communication barrier between the staff and contributing players. Messaging on the forums is not nearly as fast as something like voice or chat on Discord. When a player is chosen to be a part of the project, they feel like a legitimate part of the team. If this system were not implemented, the event would not amount to its full potential.

This format will be changed to meet requirements of the staff and community. I am not aware if anyone is in support of this idea. How can this idea be morphed so that the community can take part in the next special event?

+1 but if this is for non staff, how would players have any experience in a professional event unless they are staff on another server that does events?

 

The staff plan events because that's their job. If a general let his soldiers plan where they were going to go, nothing would get done because they likely don't have the skills necessary to know how to effectively create a strategy, not to mention taking care of others (the list could go on and on). I can't see many of the non-staff being cooperative enough to have an efficient/well-thought out/entertaining plan that the server is capable of doing.
When the staff do an event, more people are willing to participate because they know the staff aren't going to scam them and there's also more opportunity to advertise if the server staff make a plan rather than players doing it.

Minecraft is a good way for young people to learn what management and leadership positions are all about, and if you want to learn how to plan events or manage a server, then you need to take the time to actually become staff because the truth is that staff for videogame servers aren't professional; it's practice for real life. So let the videogame staff practice for real life situations because that's what they signed up for.

people who are/have been staff on other servers wouldn't make good events, there's only one economy server like meep. If I'm helper on a factions server, I'm not gonna know crap about eco-based events (and the same applies for if I was staff on a minigames, roleplay, or fps server)

 

most factions and RP servers have economies, and most are balanced and well contained

 

factions is a different world, please go try it before making generalizations you believe to be true.

 

I know what factions are, yes I also know that the factions plugin has no economy feature but all if not most servers have the vault plugin. it may be a very basic economy but there is one. and I have tried factions, and on many servers. that is my reasoning for such "generalizations"
