Why is the population on most towns dropping?

I have seen a pretty disturbing change in towns' populations. Take Legend for example. A few weeks ago in July, the population was 578. Now, it's 492. I don't get why so many people are leaving these days. A lot of small towns are there, taking away these big towns. We need to let them take Legend and other big towns.

 

The most residents get kicked out of a town as they don't have the money to pay the taxes and aren't active anymore. It's not often that I see (My opinion) people leave the larger towns to join a smaller if they don't have a friend in a smaller town. The town I'm in is losing citizens almost daily not because they all leave us. Because they have stopped playing on Meepcraft and therefore they can't keep up with our 50 meebles daily tax. It's more often you see people leave the smaller towns to join a large since the smaller towns get way to inactive so there's no idea of living there. Also, I didn't really understand what you mean by:

Do you mean that the smaller towns shall overtake the larger or just that the larger town is overtaking the smaller and creating a larger gap between the towns?

 

Inactive residents get kicked. Not enough new players joining to keep towns increasing in population.

Mainly cause new players join Meepcraft and look around for a bit, and join a town... After all, that's the purpose of this server. However, maybe after a while, they may not find the server interesting or worth staying. Once they're in the town, they get taxed, and when they lose interest in the server, they don't come on, draining their balance.

 

Towns have just been better at cleaning out inactive residents as of late. All larger towns have quite a few of them, it just takes work to find who they are.
