Vein Miner

Hi there. Many of you have seen me around, but not too familiar with me. Anyways, one of my interests is coding, and while I mainly make vanilla mods, I have a moderate interest in plugins, as well. One that I believe would make gameplay more fun on Meepcraft is called the vein miner plugin.

Basically, what this does is the user sneaks while breaking a block. In any case, the basics of VeinMiner is the ability to mine an entire vein of ores when you are shifting with a tool in hand, and you break the ore. It breaks the entire vein when only needing to break one ore. As simple as that. It uses the same amount of durability on your tools as if you broke it by hand, and enchantments like silk or fortune still retain their effects. The other thing that keeps the plugin balanced is admins can individually enable blocks with one command.

While this is nice and all, there's something even better. The plugin is already created and free to use. I take no credit for making it.

The question is how does this prevent an imbalance in the game? Vien miner is cool, but a little weird on Meepcraft. Perhaps as a special shop item or rank usage (as long as certain balances are used)?

 

It really is just a fun time saver. It's balanced because it still uses up the tools, and is only enabled for certain blocks that admins choose. It could work really well as a rank perk, I think. In regards to not fitting on Meepcraft, I see where you're coming from. It's not something you'd be required to use either, because simply not shifting while breaking disables it. Meep has long stuck with highly vanilla features, which has worked for the longest time, but many players have left because they're bored, and it is super difficult to improve Towny. That's why plugins that make normal gameplay better work, as they indirectly affect Towny, the core of the server.

 

On meep This should be disabled in towny since an ore vein can extend past a plot you have permissions to edit

I vote perk for elite or exl, either via any pick and holding shift or possibly a command that would add a lore to the pickaxe
So like how the supermod rank allows you to use the //thru compass but no other rank can do that, or maybe similar to how the /fix lore was implemented where you would have the ore vein lore added to the pick but once a lower rank picked it up the lore was removed and then it was just a normal pick

 

The plugin attaches it to a tool type, which admins have the ability to set. Like all pickaxes can get vein miner from diamonds, but shovels won't. It should be easily possible to implement as a rank perk, and Exclusive+ sounds balanced. There are certainly a lot of premiums running around who could upgrade.

If I'm not mistaken, it still would be counted by plot permissions, because it tricks the game into thinking you broke each by hand. I haven't tested this, so I can't say for certain.

 

Course, course, and a stone pickaxe would still not be able to break a diamond ore, right? (Or at least it wont drop anything upon breaking like it normally would)

As long as there was a way to restrict the lore to the rank, that'd be sweet

I don't know about ranked just because I like a challenge and this is pretty op. If we give it to certain ranks then the eco will be super inflated for new players who can get anything they want relatively easy. If it is given to everyone it will balance itself out even with the inflation. I don't know how exactly how to explain it. I see this happening especially in mesas. It should probably exclude gold.
Since we have mcmmo it fits on our server and it adds just one more element of interest for players to enjoy but I don't know if it fits in with the current level of difficulty the server has. We turned off the multiplier in mcmmo this is a bit like that imo.
If this is not an item I'm a strong -1 for many reasons. You don't have to work for it and you may not want to have it on at all time.
Meepcraft is dominated by players who are not in endgame, when you cut out time for working you cut out time spent on the server which lowers our player count. People come back after resets and usually the harder the reset the longer they stay for so that they can build their town or pay for their head collection or have a chest of diamond blocks but once that is accomplished it gets boring again.

I guess this sounds mostly negative but I'm actually not against the idea. It will be interesting to see.

 

It should cost a lot so players can't boost the speed by which they earn money from using the a vein miner pickaxe, but instead use it as a more fun way to acquire goods from mining.

 

$40 is a lot.

 

Sorry, I was talking about if it was in a shop, where then a vein miner pickaxe should cost a lot. Otherwise, I think that having vein miner for a rank should be different,k maybe limited to so money blocks between cool downs or blocks to use being built up over time like an energy system.

 

I've used it quite a bit, and it isn't overpowered when mining. Veins normally consist of a maximum of eight blocks, so it's just faster. And, it's more risky, because there are times where there's lava right beneath the ores that you can't see. Another thing to point out is the plugin has a command to toggle it whenever you want to.

The level of difficulty right now isn't the issue that's present, but it's not very much fun to sit and mine for hours on end hoping to afford a new pickaxe. Quite the contrary, resets only work if you can keep people interested. If it mined out enormous tunnels automatically, yea, it'd be too easy, but it only breaks more veins. Most new players don't stay for a lot of reasons, and one of those is you need to play for hours upon hours to even get the most basic of materials. It should be fun to come on and play. So yes, this makes things slightly easier, but only in time saving, not giving things away or something of the sort.

It's supposed to make work less tedious and time consuming, so more players can spend less time grinding and more time having fun.

No, all pickaxes still function according to their vanilla mechanics. So it can break diamond ore with a stone package, but instead you've lost the entire vein instead of one ore.

 

It takes like two hours to get diamond gear. Then you are supposed to join a town for a while hoping to earn the money to get your own. If everything is available people get bored. We want to extend the time spent on the server not decrease it. Sure it's hard but we don't want to cater to people who want everything immediately. I have seen more new players staying in this last week than I have in months. If we give this to a rank then it just makes them feel even more behind. If we give it to everyone there is no sense in buying ore off the market just go out for ten minutes. Some people like mining. They should be able to make a profit off of it. If you don't like mining you should make your money a different way like woodcutting and buy the ores, thus stimulating the economy. Klutch's idea for this mcmmo eco was that everyone would have their niche job and depend on each other for materials. If anyone can go out and in 30 minutes get all the stuff they need there is no market for the miners.

 

its not like they're mining out all the veins in the area, it's just 1 vein in one break, meaning they break usually at max about 20 blocks in 1 block(and thats a big vein), if they hit the vein, And it's only the vein. I don't think this will decrease any market, as what, you're saving 15 seconds of time, but the perk is cool enough to be actually wanted and liked, whilst not being that OP.

 

2 hours for diamond is a drastic difference from reality. One thing I do with my (annoying ) brother is start vanilla worlds, and see how fast we can get stuff. Most times, we can start with nothing and have solid iron for both of us by the end of day one (10 minutes), and solid diamond for both of us by day 3 (without beds, 50-60 minutes). It's even faster to get stuff on Meep. Quests take 15-20 minutes, so I can buy a good pickaxe, and start with tools/food. So, it's probably closer to 30 minutes that way, or I can take 1 trip on the airship and get multiple sets in 3 minutes. Or what about supplydrop? Diamonds are literally worth 120-150 Meebles. Depending on what is enabled, vein miner can apply to any block, so switching to woodcutting: just use it on a tree instead. Everything is certainly not available with or without this. It doesn't apply to any block admins choose not to include.

In all seriousness, I like the idea. Be a great perk to add for Exclusive+. Personally, I think it should be enabled for all ores, and all logs except jungle (can break large trees in one swing). It is definitely possible to add as a perk. You wouldn't even need special lore on it like we did with /fix because the ability can be bound to the rank, exactly like a Supermod's magic compass binds a command to a normal compass.

It doesn't change mining for people without it, it just makes it more convenient for those who do have it, kinda like how Supremes could still be on baltop against Ultimates when they had Fly in all worlds. Having perks doesn't automatically give them an advantage, as it's all based in usage.
