@Erebus45 Dead vegetable is a bit of an over exaggeration don't ya think? I don't believe I said they lose 100% of their brain activity. What I did say and what is a proven fact is that when you smoke marijuana and other illegal substances they do things to your body and stops you from doing daily functions (some even at a slower rate then someone who isn't a pot-smoker).
How does marijuana use affect school, work, and social life?
@VKL_ReWinDzz You'll never win the fight against a drinker or smoker so all I can do is provide the facts.

Sounds just like being drunk. By chance, do you support criminalizing alchohol?

You're so wrong it isn't even funny. I have smoked weed before classes on school days and I can perform just fine, better than a lot of others. It is all about tolerance. If you smoke a lot, you can go around high 24/7 and be fine. Watch this video, SNL star Pete Davidson talks about weed. He uses it medicinally yes, but this disproves your point that you can't function properly. WARNING LANGUAGE:

Also, it is true that people will smoke more, but there will be fewer drug dealers around since weed will be dirt cheap. That means there will be pretty much no issues.

People who smoke if they are old enough will experience NO PROBLEMS from weed. After you turn 25, weed does nothing to you. This is a fact. Weed hurts the developing brain, not a fully developed brain. You need to know your facts first.

They don't do things like that in the immediate effect, over long term in developing brains yes, that is true. But even then it isn't all that noticeable.

To an extent yes. Some Alcohol's (that are a high percent) shouldn't be drinkable. Bars should also be forced to stop serving you when you are at a certain point. There should be methods of transportation and when you go into the bar they should take your keys with a number and when you want to leave you have to take a breathalyzer test to make sure you can drive. If you cant drive then you shouldnt get your keys back. Some people may find that stupid and thats okay but it would seriously stop many accidents. (let me say I do not want to offend any of you alcoholics since we get offended by everything these days).

@Killer2themx I am 100% for medical marijuana. The video is irrelevant because its proving a point I agree with. However, the average person who does not have a medical problem should not be smoking. It is a proven fact that is stops brain growth etc etc
IF for some reason it did get legalized, 25 should be the legal age to buy/smoke it. Unless its used for medical purposes.

It's a proven fact it stops brain growth, yes, but that just means smoking it before your brain naturally stops growing (20s) will stunt that growth. -- But after the fact doesn't so much in this method.

That is exactly why I said IF (which I hope it doesn't) it does become legal (outside of medical purposes) the legal age for using it should be 25.

Also back to the Alcohol, it does not effect your brain like Marijuana does. Marijuana can become long term where Alcohol can not. Okay let me say Alcohol can do long term damage but most of it can be fixed via rehab because it just causes you do be addicted to it and pretty much nothing else.

Alcohol absolutely affects your brain, it chemically changes it. I encourage you to look up the DTs, which is what happens when a person of long alcohol abuse sobers up. It's because the brain has been so saturated with alcohol (which are opiates) for so long it simply cannot function without it it's eerily similar to a stroke in some people, depending on their level of abuse. Alcohol also teaches your brain/body to stop producing the opiates it needs internally, because it gets it from an outside source, leading to depression in sobriety. Alcohol is severely addicting, because it's an opiate.

Marijuana does none of these things.

Additionally, if you can fight and die for your country at 18 then you should be able to drink and smoke at 18.

Since marijuana and alcohol both effect your ability to perform regular functions do you think these same measures would be acceptable for legalizing marijuana?

Yes I understand. There was an alcoholic who was married. He worked a job and brought in some income. His wife filed for divorce and said she simply couldnt live like that any longer. The husband, devastated asked what he could do to change his wife's decision. She said "Go on a cruise with me, while we are on the cruise you can not drink any alcoholic beverages". So loving his wife, he did just that. Sadly it caused him to die. This being said, if he had stopped drinking slowly, it would have minimal to no effect on him. When you do something for so long and hard stop it. Of course its going to effect you negatively. Thats why when you quit smoking cigarettes you do it slowly.

I 100% agree with you, If I were doing half of what they did in the military I would need a joint and a bottle of alcohol. I think if you fight for your country you should be allowed to get it. HOWEVER! For those that fight for our country are different from those who dont. If you wanna drink and smoke early then you best fight for the country. Us regular people (not saying military personnel aren't regular people, but you get what I mean) should not be doing it until 25.

No, If you get drunk your most likely better after food and a nap (except that damn head ache your gonna get the next day) when you smoke marijuana it can effect your brain for up to a couple days.

I'm not a regular person, I'm a citizen of United States of America. While I appreciate those who serve in our military, they are by no means any higher in authority than I, a citizen. The military serves the government and the government serves the people.

You are CHOOSING to ignore what I'm saying here. I SAID in that post that the video agreed with you, and I agree with you! Weed is great for medicine! I never disagreed there. My point was that people can function JUST FINE while high. This guy, Pete Davidson performs in front of millions of people live on SNL. If you can do that, and if I can tell you from PERSONAL experience that I can handle myself while high in classes, why are you still fighting it? You have never been high, you have no idea.

Sure, you see your friends high and they are probably goofy and having fun. This can be two things or both, either they don't smoke often and they don't have much tolerance or they are allowing themselves to be goofy and have fun since they aren't in classes or anything. That doesn't mean they can't think straight. When I get high in my room with friends or something, I let loose, I don't care about anything. I'm just having fun. Doesn't mean I can't act serious. If they don't smoke much I also get that, and nothing wrong with it. My first time smoking weed I became a potato. I was just laughing and having fun. Now, I just get happy and find things funny. I sometimes get a bit dizzy, but it's nothing.

@Deinen I think you misunderstood what I said, or maybe I wrote it badly. I believe while they are in the military. They have "days off" if you would say, where they have free time and can go drink and what not. I'm saying why they are over there fighting, in training etc they should be allowed to drink at a younger age. Then when they come home and are off duty, they should have to be of age. Is this making sense?

No, I completely understand you are agreeing with me, sorry for the miscommunication on my part. Taking the medical parts out, you may be able to function as a person but try to get a job done. I'm not talking about taking notes down in class. Take a test, teach an assignment to someone. I can tell when people are high and when they aren't. Tbh a TV show isn't very hard to do (I've never done it) but most of the work is done for you, the stage gets set up for you, you basically sit up there telling jokes (like every other high/drunk person) explain things you agree/disagree with and keep up on current news. Thats literally like every TV show.

You are forgetting the use of one of your most IMPORTANT cognitive functions that you say gets hurt, memory. Anyways, I can tell you I can work hard in class, teach, and do assignments just FINE high. I can also tell you for people who smoke a lot, you can't tell unless you do yourself. Why? Because they can handle themselves extremely well.

    Regarding marijuana and driving:

"Blood THC concentrations of 8.2 and 13.1 μg/L during driving increased SDLP similar to 0.05 and 0.08 g/210 L breath alcohol concentrations, the most common legal alcohol limits. Cannabis-alcohol SDLP effects were additive rather than synergistic, with 5 μg/L THC + 0.05 g/210 L alcohol showing similar SDLP to 0.08 g/210 L alcohol alone. Only alcohol increased lateral acceleration and the less-sensitive lane departures/min parameters. OF effectively documented cannabis exposure, although with greater THC concentration variability than paired blood samples."

    Hartman et al., 2015

So basically, participants in a study smoked a placebo (the control), and both low and high-THC cannibis and then drove. The participants showed symptoms about equal to driving at 0.08 BAC (the legal limit). The study concluded that marijuana does in fact impair driving.

And in the year after marijuana was legalized in Washington State, 17% of drivers involved in fatal accidents tested positive for marijuana, compared to 8% the year before.

    Source

edit: Though I think marijuana should be legal, more research is definitely needed before we implement limits for driving. For the time being, since not much research has been conducted on the subject, it's probably better if we criminalized driving while high.

Also, even if you don't think marijuana should be completely decriminalized, the laws surrounding drug possession need to be changed. Currently, there are 32 people in California serving life sentences for marijuana violations, which is just...completely dumb and unnecessary.

    Also @epick8 :

This is how he "debates." If you look at his posts, they generally consist of: "[insert unsubstantiated claim here] is my opinion and you are wrong." Then a bunch of logical fallacies to defend his point. It's just dumb.

This comment doesn't make much sense at all. It's like saying "I can always tell if people lie to me". If you didn't notice that they lied (were high), you would still count it as yourself being correct.

How does it not make sense? Can you tell when someone is drunk?

Well yeah, you can tell if someone is really drunk because they'd likely be stumbling around, obviously drunk.

But if someone had 2 drinks and is behaving completely normally, can you tell they're drunk?

Depending on what they are drinking and if they are a lightweight then yes I would be able to. They would probably still be fairly sober though. However, I'm saying when people get high they do not perform functions properly. Obviously everyone is different so there may be a select handful that actually do fine when they smoke. However for the majority of America, that is not the case.

You may be able to, you may not. It depends on the person and their response to alcohol, and the amount they drank.
    Same can apply to weed.

Well what's your point? People who smoke often can handle themselves just fine unless they go over the top. Drinkers no matter how much experience they have with alcohol (may be wrong please correct me if so) will get drunk and will show the same symptoms. Thing is, people can work just fine under the influence of marijuana. Sure, if it's your first time you will get pretty damn high and if you have low tolerance, you'll get really high whenever you smoke. But that just means you should use common sense when smoking. When I know I haven't done it in a while, I always wait until I know I have nothing for the rest of the day and I can smoke with some friends. I don't go smoking before classes and get to the point where I can barely walk. That's just being stupid.
