Minigame Addition: Murder

There is a game out there, goes by many different names, but most people know it as "Murder Mystery".
Here's how it works.
Everyone is spawned into a map, one person has a knife, one person has a gun, and the rest have nothing. The person with the knife is the murderer, they have to kill everyone. The person with the gun is the cop, they have to shoot the murderer and only the murderer. The other people without a weapon are innocents. They watch out for the murderer and help the cop find the killer.
If the Policeman shoots an innocent, he and the innocent are considered "dead" and are teleported back to the lobby. The policeman drops his gun if he dies, so then this way an innocent can shoot the murderer. The murderer cannot pick up the gun. If the policeman is killed by the murderer than the cop drops his gun and is teleported back to the lobby. If the cop succeeds in killing the murder, he and the innocents win, and the cop gets a bonus per innocent he saved. If the murderer wins, he gets points based on how many he killed.

 

I have played this game before and it's pretty fun, but I have two concerns.

1. This is not a very easy game to code and I don't know if the meep techs have the time

2. It's hard to start a boomo game, I can only imagine how hard it would be to start a Murder game. You need a good bit of people to play the game and I don't know if meep had enough players atm.

 

True. however, this is why it is a suggestion. I'm not telling meep to do this, I'm not even saying it needs to be built. I'm just suggesting it! Besides, meep could code it whenever, and if a ton more players join, they could just place it into the game.

 

I wouldn't say it's that hard to code, but there is a lot of other stuff to work on so I'd just put this on trello until someone has the time to start on it.

I agree, this would be an issue, how many players what would you say be the bare minimum amount to start a game on our server?

 

This sounds like a lot of fun actually. Even with the challenges and hard work it may take to code I think in the future it would be a great game to add. Let the staff tem fix some current issues and then maybe in the future add this game. Would certainly always have people playing (imo) and would be a lot of fun! +1

 

I know a bit of command blocks, so I could explain how some of it would work (not using commands because java and mc commands are not the same)

After the countdown timer, the script would pick a number between 1 and the amount of players.
This player would be assigned a scoreboard called murderer

The script picks another number and is assigned police.

The police is set to a team with all the survivors that has friendly fire set to false.
The murderer is set to different team so h3 can get his weapon..
The survivors though, can hit the murderer, so im not sure how to fix that.
The policeman is assigned to ANOTHER TEAM, so he can get his weapon.

The policeman gets his weapon, and also the murderer by checking for the players on the two teams.

 

I also have a question about this, concerning the way you described that game. I have played a similar version to what you described, but basically my problem is this: It seems that the innocents have not much to do, and can't even kill (did I get that right?). I feel that this would discourage people from playing the game, if only 2 people have really active roles. Maybe give innocents the ability to kill, but give the cop some special thing that they don't have? Like a detection device of some kind? Obviously it wouldn't point to the murderer, but it might help somehow? I realize that this idea isn't on the priority list, just throwing this comment in.

I see it's like Mafia, and it's fun, but I don't think people will go on minecraft to play mafia.
We have fun minigames already coming up (CTF, Skywars, Halo*) in addition to Boomo and Infected, so I think we are good at this point.

As long as the Policeman can hit the innocent team, but the innocent team cannot hit the murderer or policeman. The innocent can only hurt the murderer if they got the gun. If it were to come down to this, make sure that there is no scoreboard in game, maybe in the lobby, so people don't know who is who in the game.

Hmm, Good point. Maybe the policeman can have like, a buff, to make it a little bit easier to find the killer. The innocent maybe get plenty of interactive stuff around the map, or maybe, randomly, "Coins" can pop up and only the innocent can collect them, coins can be used kinda like in Infected. To get different power-ups and buffs and stuff

 

There is an option to hide the scoreboard

 

What other servers have this gamemode and why would players choose MeepCraft over that server?

How does this mini-game help pull in new donating players in ways nearly every other minigame has failed to do so?

 

I have yet to see any major servers offer this, so it could be a "Minecraft First" for Meepcraft to offer this. The problem with the other minigames, is they seem too new. Infected is fairly new, and Boomo is a good way to have fun with Tnt. There is not a lot of variety in the mini games that are currently available. To draw more players in, I would say let the "Murder Coins" have a high "Meeble" value, but make them a little difficult to find, this way people will want to collect the coins and possible trade them in for Meebles.

 

The most popular server currently has this game, along with many other popular servers.

Then why is it still in beta/alpha?

 

I wonder where I've seen this before.

 

Coins are an "Encouragement" to play the game. If the game doesn't pay well, people won't want to play the game.

 

If it's not interesting enough to make people want to play it just for fun, it's not worth having on the server.

 

The litany of issues the server faces this second would make it so attracting major new players via minigames almost impossible, especially considering the model of minigame players transferring to towny is overall unproven and the opposite seems to be true.
