The new Skyblock challenges are awesome; would be great if Towny had similar challenges, but at the town level. Would also create a massive project-scale demand in the economy.

I'm not entirely sure that I fully understand your suggestion. It would be great if you expanded on the details and possibly provided some ideas/examples.

If I recall correctly, the skyblock levels are based on how many blocks are in your island and that's not possible for towny.

We also do have a level system with the town size (settlement, hamlet, town, metropolis, etc), and towny top, which calculates top towns with the most land and/or population.

We also have /baltop which shows the towns/people that are the most affluent.

So I don't think there is a need

More like /c challenges than /is level ... For example, there's a challenge to collect 64 cobble. Why not as a town collect 64,000 cobble? Or 128,000 potatoes? Or 10,000 of each kind of wood?

The idea would be to address an economy issue: tons of supply, but demand doesn't match. By having a series of town challenges, it would require coordinated effort from the town staff and residents to accomplish goals and reach status of "competent", "advanced", "expert", and so on.

For example, there's a challenge in sb to generate 64 cobble. In towny, that might be successively 6400, 12800, 25600, etc.

I've been thinking that "grand scale" or "monument" style challenges would fulfill an economic role: i.e. creating a demand for surplus items, and have been enjoying the new sb challenges so much, it occurred to me there might be a fit.

But that's pretty sketchy, just the outlines of a suggestion. But FWIW.

I get were you are coming from, but would like to see some more explaining as far as your ideas. Having a list of challenges to complete would definitely be a cool thing, if added in the right way.

That kind of takes players away from the aspect of making money in an economy and building a town. I think a town should be a community not a team of gatherers.

However, I agree that we can create demand for certain items with relatively low prices (like cobble and diamonds) to balance the economy.

I like the idea (although I've never played Skyblock) and I am all for ways to get people to spend more money and stimulate player to player transactions but it might need some more tweaking.

This might have the opposite desired effect especially at those numbers. After a "goal" is reached what happens to the items? If they were to get introduced back into the economy at some stage it would flood and collapse the markets. Even if the items somehow get destroyed upon achieving the "goal" it will ultimately lead to multiple large scale farms having been built that could easily create influx of said items afterwards.

If it is based on placed blocks in a town...that might actually work if there is a way to calculate that and link it to a town. That should be pretty much self regulating. It will stimulate competition between towns and increase demand on nearly all items as well as let there be something other than resident count to show your town's awesomeness. If possible rewards for leveling your town up could maybe be boosters activated within your town borders like Speed II etc.

But alas it all sounds good and well on paper but to get it implemented (also if it all possible) is a far reach.

Doesn't mean people have to do them. I think meep needs to look into making the Towny experience unique and continuously entertaining. Not everyone is going to strive to be #1 in the baltop and completing your house has an eventual completion date.

    I got some questions.

Would the rewards for these challenges be money that goes right into the town bank?

Who would be able to complete these challenges (like on the mayor/co leaders, or every person in the town?)

I see how this could help give some items some value, but I think the value would only be a short burst until most towns had completed the challenge, then money was introduced and a week later the eco is back to how it once was. How could you prevent this?
