Default New Towns to Closed

    I was initially going to file this as a report, but decided that there's nothing to be gained by just trying to get a player reprimanded. Instead I am thinking this could make a good server improvement to get rid of some bad behavior.

    I started a new town today and someone immediately teleported to my spawn, disguised as a pig, and as soon as I went into an adjacent cell to claim it, they killed me.

    I talked to a mod in game about it, and he was very helpful. I figured out who it was who killed me and talked to them about it. I was kinda ticked off, but the culprit admitted that they do it to loot the new mayors. The player was pretty flippant about it. I understand that the wild in Towny is free game for PvP - and I have no issue with that; although I have found that it's abused now and then along town borders.

    My suggestion is to default new towns to be closed. This way no one can teleport there until the mayor chooses to allow it. In my opinion, this type of behavior is not what Meep should be actively promoting.

    I agree that this is an issue. Just a quick suggestion, you can claim 8 plots around your main with /t claim 1. I don't see any negatives to doing this, but you'd actually want to make them set to private, not closed. Closed just means it takes an invite, private disables /t spawn (name).

    I agree with this because it gives the mayor of the new town enough time to claim plots and do everything that they need to do to make the town ready for future residents and the mayor will not have to worry about any distractions.

    This is an issue not only in new towns but all towns with unarmed people in general.

    There are plenty of looters who will gladly disguise as a pig and loot your stuff and possibly get your head. Although it is not considered luring, and is completely a legal action, town mayors and staff members have to put a great deal of time into solving those issues...

    I agree with you that a new town should be private. This will just cause less troubles for everyone.

    I toggled my town to not be public. Is it now "private" then? What is the difference between private and closed? Just want to make sure people can't teleport in for the time being.

    edit: also, thanks for the tip on claiming. I didn't realize that. I'm a noob at commands.

    Public and Private dictate whether a town's coords appear when you do /t [name], and whether or not you can do /t spawn [name].
    Closed and Open dictate whether you can openly join a town vs having to be invited with /t add.

    +1 if it can be done. Also I don't get why idiots think that /dis will allow them to kill people without anyone knowing. The server does have prism installed...

    I wouldn't mind seeing unclaimed towny no longer pvp. Isn't that what /warp wild /warp kitpvp /warp terrarium are for?

    Since it's not like the server has active Nation battles or conflicts or frequent Town feuds that I know of, I wouldn't miss it either. I don't mind being cautious about PvP in Towny Wild; I just don't see the benefit except for people to kill others unaware - which doesn't follow the rule of making losing fun. The exhilaration of being chased down and gutted in KitPvP is one thing. But there is nothing fun about being killed by a baby chicken as you fish at a pretty lake on the outskirts of town - maybe even by a fellow resident. But I won't shed a tear if PvP in Towny stays either - that's not an agenda I was looking to push with this thread.
