Referal Programme

Fuzzlr wants players, meep needs player and ads cost money.
What doesn't cost money is getting friends to join meep, just plop em a quick skype message, Yo! mate you should join this awesome server, join my town and come do this. Now some people do this others don't
My idea is having a referral system:
When someone joins the forums or in game they get the option of putting in a referral name of the ign of the person who referred them.
There would be a thing about a certain amount of posts or time on the server that you need to spend before the person who referred gets a reward which could range from a special item in game/tag or meebles idk.
The idea of doing it on the forums was kcschmidt's and it doesn't have the following problems.
Ok now this idea isn't fool proof I mean my younger sister would have already figured out that you can just pay people 5k when u see the welcome message and go oi if u put my name down them I'll give you lots of money, not everyone who joins would put the name down but some will, I don't know how to get around this so we need your help.
Yes having it on the forums is certainly not fool prof either, you can bribe people to put you a the referral person however in a way this is still getting someone onto the meep forums I am not sure.
Forums alt accounts may occur however I am hoping that you can easily track this with IP and ban them.
Please we need your suggestions to make this idea possible and get more people on meep!
Also please note that yes you would normally tell your friends about meep or maybe you don't want to but if you have this old friend u don't talk to on skype it will encourage you to plop them a message.
IDK you might hate it but I am just trying to think of how to squeeze all the possible players into meep

See, I think referral is the most effective way of getting players. It's how I found the server, after all. The problem with this, is I foresee it being abused rather easily. Some people have a multitude of alts they could farm money from. Or they could ask friends to just log in, and Afk to get the money.

If you can possibly think of a way around that, I'd love to introduce something like this.

 

I couldn't think of much, the only idea I had was to make is so when people join they are in the tutorial and chat is disabled when they are asked for the referral , that would stop people from paying new players to put as a referral. As for the problem of alts if you have one or a couple chances are they are on the server already and getting friends to afk there is nothing you can do, there is a slight chance they may play around and like it though. The prize for referring 1 person wouldn't be to big and for the end prize the staff can check that none of the accounts are on the same ip.
Not a graceful solution and clearly a lot of work for a few extra players a day at most, however like you I joined through referral

 

I strongly disagree with disabling chat in Tutorial, because then it means the community cannot even welcome a new player. And by friends, I mean where you have access to their account, as well.

Rather than paying for playing for an hour, I believe the referral program could be linked to forums. After all, it's illegal to create forums alts already. This would encourage players already on the server to go deeper, which solidifies the bond they're already forming. All that'd need to happen is adding that as part of your forums registration (just put in the IGN of the person who referred you), and then when that person reaches a certain number of posts (I'm thinking 50), it could reward the player who referred them in-game. Alt abuse would be much more controlled if it were forums, because of the linked email, and easiness of spotting forums alts.

 

This is why meep has suggestions, people like you come up with great ideas

Denied, I don't see this as being needed and I can see it being rather heavily abused by people with a lot of alts.
